      Yes, agreed. One of those performances where you legit believe Bobby is Max Cady. Once, merely a sociopathic brute, now armed with knowledge and a clear goal of vengeance after stewing for 14 years. A living nightmare if you came across someone like this and crossed them.

    Rape is a horrible
    despicable crime on
    any level regardless of
    the gender of the victim.

I can't believe that a jury would let this guy go just b/c the woman he beat & raped slept 3 other guys in a month. He beat her! What woman wants to have consensual sex while being beaten. Beaten means she didn't want sex & it was done to make her submit like an animal. I'm sure the other lovers she had ( how would bowden find a report like that just ask around?) Anyway the rape shield act has been around since at least the 90s & thankfully that stops her prior sexual history from being brought up. Also this guy had 2 other arrests for rape & beat it. At the end sam tells him that & believes he would get off. So actually 3 arrests for rape & he beat this woman but b/c she was promiscuous a jury would say nope. Maybe if he didn't beat her or been arrested for it before I could see Cady being angry esp if he didn't brag about being guilty & this would be the 3rd woman he raped. So I'd think the jury would have convicted. Most people that go to trial I think would never admit guilt. I mean the victims before that pressed charges I'm sure he beat as well. So this lunatic sat in prison fixated on a case that he would have lost? Plus I thought as an officer of the court ur obligated to tell if ur client tells u they committed a crime. That's why most lawyers are told they are guilty. In fact lawyers won't take the case if u tell them ur guilty. I'm gonna guess sam was a public defender & forced to. He had to much a conscience if he was a private lawyer.

      Kevin Arco Sam buried the report. Effectively Cady , with a lot of time on his hands, was able to construct a background picture and believes / assumes correctly that Sam had come to the same conclusion, based on the fact he has gone on to become such a successful lawyer, but had taken a personal moral choice not to pursue that line of defence and potentially get Cady off or get him a much more lenient sentence. During the film an underplayed side story is Sam refusing to pursue unethical means to assist legally his boss's daughter because he's worried about being disbarred. I think Sam is in essence a selfish individual who ironically is being made to pay for the one good deed in his life.

    • @cretinousjester3475
      @cretinousjester3475 6 років тому +17

      Kevin Arco: Possibly but there will also be new factors arise. Such as his conduct in prison. Kersick talked about Max possibly murdering another inmate on the chow line. Then there's the possibility of him taking revenge on any of the men who raped him. Much of his prison time is only hinted at. He applied seven times for an appeal. The original viciousness of his crime coupled with whatever actions he took in prison (warranted or otherwise) would play a part in whether he would be paroled.
      At the end, he mentioned the report in the case files. Sam thought he buried it and he figured Cady would never be one the wiser as he was illiterate at the time of his incarceration. It never occurred to him that Cady would learn to read and that he would figure out what Sam did.
      wayofthecass: Pretty good analysis. I don't know whether I should feel sorry for Sam or disappointed in him. As a man I can understand why he did what he did but as someone who has read law books and understands the system, Sam committed the ultimate offense as a lawyer: He betrayed his client. Likewise, I don't like Max. I think he's scum of the lowest order. However, I can see where he's coming from and if I was in his shoes I might very well do the same. The one individual he figured had his back in all of it turned around and betrayed him. Maybe they both deserved to go down with the ship.

    I'd Have Arnold Seen As He's Never Been Seen Before. He'd Be COMPLETELY SHREDDED(YES! Not All Big And Bulky And All 'Roided Up!)
    Whereas Mr.Balaban would be all muscled up and shown as Arnold's Physical Superior, Plus I'd have Bob sporting a goatee as he played Max Cady.
    You see, I think that having those two actors switch places...one who is a little beanpole get all muscled up and the other shrink down to a beanpole would make it all the more terrifying!
