    The Borla Pro XS is my favorite muffler. It leans towards being mild and noticeable and that's what I like. Honestly it's close to stock, it just raises the db a bit with a deeper and bolder sound. Plus its has that clean smooth sound that muscle cars should have. I can't stand when muscle cars have that raspy sound to their exhaust. Now if your like most folks who ruin their exhaust sound because they think loud is the way too go. In that case the Borla S-Type and definitely Borla Ataks is for you. But I prefer quality sound over loudness, besides I'm not a look at me attention seeking guy, especially from the cops.

      I agree with everything you said, I'm very curious though how my 04 Jag would sound like when I keep my foot light on the gas. This vehicle has so much torque I can just cruise around town with my big toe, I just want whichever one has the deepest sound, I love the feeling it gives when driving -like you are literally riding a Jaguar 😎 😂

    Aero chamber is nothing like a Flowmaster. Far better. But still has some pinch inside.

    The Aerochamber is my fav V8 muffler. I had them on my 86 Cutlass and Nissan Titan. Best all around sound and performance. I currently have a ProXS on my Sierra with LTs and no cats. It's an amazingly quiet muffler. Dunno how the hell Borla does it with it being wide ass open as they are, but they do. If Hooker still made the 3" in/dual 2.5" out, I'd have an Aerochamber on my truck, but ProXS it is now lol.

    Nice Chevelle. I have 69 Camaro Big block 630hp. I tried the Borla pro xs 3'' mufflers. At idle they sounded good. Once I got on the car they were very loud and slightly raspy. I switched them out for Hooker Max flow 3''. The sound is deeper (larger case) then the Borla, not quite as raspy but, still very loud when you get on it.
    I've tried Dynomax Ultra flows and Pypes race pro and yes Flow master FX. All have that raspy glass pack sound when you get on it. Pypes being the worse.
    When I have the car idling you can see fiberglass particles blowing out of all of them. As far as I'm concerned they all sound like oversized glasspacks. Not a fan.
    I like the sound of chamber mufflers or, turbo mufflers the best..but I get the whole HP loss thing. Driving around town, cruises nights, car shows, stop sign to stop sign,.. I doubt you're going to feel a major Hp loss difference. At the track a different story.

    Something nobody mentions about the borla pro xs. I put the 19" case 1 into 2 on my truck and it seemed almost as loud as the super 44 it replaced. I was disappointed because I wanted to quiet my truck down a little. It got much quieter the 1st 50 miles or so.
    That's the 1st time I've ever seen a muffler get quieter as it broke in. I assume maybe the stainless packing is wrapped in something to make it easier to pack and takes time to burn off.. idk... That's my theory anyway🤷‍♂️

    I always ran the Hooker Aero chamber muffs, more natural sound on a BBC

  • @barrykilts4506

    The aero chamber’s are straight thru to they just side step a little and have a lot of packing.I have both the 2.5” & 3” although I haven’t heard the 3” yet but I always liked the 2.5’s and I never came across anyone else who didn’t but I have to say I kinda like the borla’s and I think there’s only a couple bucks difference but the borla’s as you said are lighter and made out of SS so will last longer but I just paint the hookers and let the paint both cure then bake at low temp and low care afterwards.which is better,,,I like em both but I would have liked to hear them on the road but hey enjoy em and thanks.

    Isn't this just a fancy glass pak? Heyyyyyy. You look familiar! I was just searching for sound clips and there's one of my fav. truck project fabricators.

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  10 днів тому

      Most straight through mufflers are fancy glass packs. There can be some differences in how it's perforated or how it's packed, how much packing, etc. Small differences that can affect sound and perhaps a bit of performance too.

    While Hooker advertising budget is passed on to you w/sales, Borla prefers the put R&D into their products. Like using the 300 series stainless w/nickel in the alloy. They design products that some are looking for, but also make products using flow bench research by David Vizard who started that in 1965 and pressure sensor research to find the pressure wave location and activity in the exhaust and mufflers. David has 750+ page books on the subjects but also recommends Borla over Walker, Flow Master! The engine can produce the same open collector HP using an expansion chamber design at 2.2 CFM times liter divided by number of mufflers (1 or 2) but controlling the pressure wave, making the same HP as open header/collector race car engine yet can still reduce noise to street legal levels. He has a UA-cam channel and discusses the issues in headers, crankshaft and muffler plus more. Mechanical music, he calls it.

    I am soon to put new (dual) exhaust on 73 Dart sport, 2.5 pipe, with 340 engine.
    People- advise me on a "loud muffler" Without big drone inside. I've heard Flowmaster delta flow 50, I like sound outside, and I can live with drone inside, but would like a little less drone. Suggestions?? I'm not a racer, I just like the sound......

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Рік тому

      Flowmaster's sound great because of the chambered design. It also costs power. Check my video on how my car ran at the track from the muffler change. I had Flowmasters originally, and the drone got old very quickly. The Aerochambers were a good compromise between sound and performance. If you want to go rowdy with the muffler sound, check out Black Widow exhaust.

    • @dangeroreilly2028
      @dangeroreilly2028 Рік тому

      @@SS454LS6 Thanks for fast answer. So you say Aerochamber has that loud sound, but not the drone inside? And the same with Black Widow, not loud inside? Correct?

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Рік тому

      @@dangeroreilly2028 the aerochambers are kind of in the middle between Flowmaster loud, and straight through mufflers. I ran them for years, so you can get an idea. I'm thinkin the black widow mufflers might be what you want if you want loud.

    Was there anything in particular about the Hooker Aerochambers you didn’t like? I’m running Borla ProXS, just wondering sound wise how they compare. So hard to tell with videos, they sound similar.

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Рік тому +3

      They are too heavy and if you watch the drag racing video with the Borla mufflers, apparently they were bad for power. In terms of sound, they are shockingly similar, which is what shows in this video. The Borla's are very slightly more "Magnaflow, or Ultraflow" sound, while the Aerochambers have a slight bit more glasspack sound. Very minimal either way.

    • @kellyjernigan2088

    Are crate mufflers universal? Are they something I can just get welded on to my scat pack or hellcat?

    • @SS454LS6
      @SS454LS6  Рік тому

      technically any muffler is universal if you can make it fit. 2 big factors are muffler length, and if the pipes are offset or center in/out.
