Jenn, I actually really enjoy this lighting! It has a very "golden hour" feel to it and harmonizes so well with your look! Everything looks so romantic and soft!
On of my favorite books is Girl in Hyacinth Blue. It follows the “life” of a portrait painting backwards. So it starts with the painting and the environment in current day and then travels back in time showing the lives of all the people who have owned it all the way to its creation. It’s a great story.
Firstttt of alll, thank you for this video I love you Jenn! Second of all, I actually really enjoyed the lighting of this video before you apologized for it at the end so don’t be sorry! It’s gives off such a soft, warm and ethereal vibe!!:))
Jenn 💗you always give the most wonderful sincere recommendations and Red Table Talk sounds especially good. The forgiveness one piqued my interest too because it's definitely something i can relate to and work on! Thanks a bunch sis!! 💗
It was a little funny that you apolagized for the lighting cause I was litteraly just thinking "wow the lighting is so nice in this video... so warm and chill and aesthetic" haha! Love u 🧡🌼
Jenn!!! Make a goodreads account to track your reading!!! Your taste in books is amazing and all your bookish followers would love to see your progress on that platform. As always love your vids ❤️
I recently finished the book called The Homegoing and I really loved it! It’s about the slavery and segregation in the US and Africa, and it takes you through many generations from the beginning till the mid 1900s. I really recommend this book!
Hitting all the faves today Jenn!! Room is a great novel, love red table talk, and The marvelous Mrs. Maisel is such a fantastically done show. Fantastic work by everyone involved. Thanks for mentioning them!
Since Jenn mentioned pachinko and briefly of the Japanese colonization in Korea, I just wanted to remind everyone to refrain from using the rising sun flag, which remains a popular symbol for Japan (red sun with rays coming out from it). It is like using the Nazi symbol to represent Germany. I've seen so many famous youtubers use the symbol in their thumbnails and videos, and it upsets me to see that harmful symbol being used nonchalantly. (P.s. on a completely different note, the lighting looked so beautiful today! did you film this during the sunset?)
japanese imperialism reached so far and devastated so many asian nations (like my mom's home country) i love japanese pop culture but it leaves a real bad taste in my mouth when people blatantly ignore the attrocities it's government and military has done and proceeds to try to hide to this day.
sometimes my grandfather is really racist towards japanese people, and I used to find it really strange until I found out that his father was beheaded by the japanese during the war..
J Kay similar with my grandfather. When he was in the military, he saw many Japanese soldiers rape women and he’s held that anger towards Japanese for the next 60 years of his life :/ I’m so sorry about your great grandfather tho
I don’t know what it was, but your energy was so great in this one. I always feel like you’re genuine when you talk about things you like, but this one felt REALLY chill and personable.
Love your favorites Jen, please continue to post in 2019! I never feel like you are selling something, rather that you care about sharing great stuff! Thank you!
Remember how that therapist who encouraged you to take ayahuasca said you need to stop playing the role your parents expect you to play? You talking about what you learned from that talk show reminded me of that!
For some reason I really like the lighting of this video. It looks so natural and gives off this warm feeling :) Anyways, I really love your hair! You look great as always Jenn! Love you!
Whew I’m so glad you did your December faves! 😭💜 i also got into the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel this month!! I didnt expect to like it but ohhhhh my gosh is so clever and addicting!
I would highly recommend the book ‘nothing to envy’ which covers multiple defectors from North Korea and their stories. It was pretty harrowing but was a great read and gave such an interesting insight into Korean history and what life was really like being a North Korean
Hi Jenn, just wanted to say how much I LOVE your videos, I’ve been subscribed to you for like 5 years 😳 you are such an inspiration to me every time I watch your videos! Keep up the good work girl and I loved your favorites 💗
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel!! Freakin loved that show, it deserved all the awards it received. Like you said the time period so fascinating, IF ANYONE HASNT SEEN IT, 10/10 would recommend!
I personally really like this book called "The Art of Hearing Heartbeats" by Jan-Philipp Sendker. The background of the story: A poignant and inspirational love story set in Burma, The Art of Hearing Heartbeats spans the decades between the 1950s and the present. When a successful New York lawyer suddenly disappears without a trace, neither his wife nor his daughter Julia has any idea where he might be…until they find a love letter he wrote many years ago, to a Burmese woman they have never heard of. Intent on solving the mystery and coming to terms with her father’s past, Julia decides to travel to the village where the woman lived. There she uncovers a tale of unimaginable hardship, resilience, and passion that will reaffirm the reader’s belief in the power of love to move mountains.
My recommendation is "Night" by Elie Wiesel. It's Elie Wiesel's autobiography of his life as a Romanian Jew during WWII. He and his family were sent to concentration camps, and so he writes about what is was like to live in that situation. Though it was incredibly difficult to read (just because of all of the horror that happened), I found it really interesting, because you hear a lot about the Holocaust and how it affected people, but you don't always get to hear directly from the people who suffered. It makes you more sympathetic because you are getting a first-person, personal experience of what it was like to be a young person in such a horrible situation. You will cry! But, I think it's totally worth it.
The book you described reminded me of a show that you can watch on netflix called Mr. Sunshine. It's a K drama that takes place in Korea before Japan's reign. There are many characters with their own individual stories that part take in the grand scheme of the story line. I love that about the writing; each person has a history and the connections between each character create a great story line. It has love, war, and great cinematography.
pachinko is my favorite book! i'm glad you stuck with it and enjoyed it :) a tale for the time being by ruth ozeki is also way up there, and kind of touches on similar themes that you mentioned from pachinko, like the consequences within a multigenerational family, colonialism + history, etc. it follows 2 women -- ruth & nao. ruth, living in america, one day finds a girl's diary (the girl lives in japan), and the story unfolds through ruth reading nao's diary. it flips back and forth between their perspectives, and we learn more about ruth and nao, especially nao's whole story. there's also stuff on time, spiritualism, and death -- overall, it's such a great book!!
My favorite show is a spanish soap opera called Velvet. It is a time piece as-well set in the 50's. It's about a seamstress who works in a high fashion clothing company who aspires to be a designer for the company. I highly suggest anyone watch it because it's full of twists and great characters.
I saw “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” in the introduction and I totally agree with you! I just watched both seasons last month and love the energy, acting, and laughs from the show! I even think I might have passed by them shooting a scene when I was in NYC!
Not sure if you listen to a ton of podcasts, but just binged Broken Harts! I think it's still ongoing, but really good. It's a true journalistic story about a couple that adopted 6 children, but semi-mysteriously drove off a cliff to their deaths and how the investigation about this family plays out
Omg just realized after seeing December 2018 in the title we are 11 days in 2019 already 😂 so crazy! Happy New Year , Jenn ❤ hope this year is gonna be even more amazing for you 🎉🎉🎉 loooove your hair in makeup in this video 😍
Loved this video but I think one of the main things about Room is the way the information is slowly revealed to you throughout, and your in-depth explanation of the plot took away that major part of the book for people who haven't read it.
This year I watched the film 'Call me by your name' and I just fell in love with it, I hope you will watch it if you haven't yet because you often talk about how sensitive you are and I think you would like it
hi Jenn! Room actually has a movie adaptation that was nominated for an Oscar a few years back, it's one of my favorite movies and I thought you might be interested to watch it!!
You were not a 'Just happen to have you on the way in your parents life. You were wanted and loved, high expectations should not be placed on anyone, we are all humans and make mistakes.
The book called “Room” that jenn read is on Netflix. I actually watched it already. I was familiar with the explanation jenn gave about what the book was about.
for those who dislike flossing and the wasteful pick things, you can buy a reusable floss holder on amazon that makes it MUCH easier and more pleasant to floss, without the waste. no more floss digging into your fingers or trying to fit your hands in your mouth. it’s the best!
Jen i looved the lighting! Golden hour warm tones are so peaceful and zen
Jenn, I actually really enjoy this lighting! It has a very "golden hour" feel to it and harmonizes so well with your look! Everything looks so romantic and soft!
Same! Very reminiscent of Weylie's romantic, vintage aesthetic :)
Definetely the best lighting ever!
I'm getting such Disney princess vibes from this look
the ambience of this video is perf

So it starts with the painting and the environment in current day and then travels back in time showing the lives of all the people who have owned it all the way to its creation. It’s a great story.
Honestly I like this lighting better! Very natural and ambient! 😊
Firstttt of alll, thank you for this video I love you Jenn! Second of all, I actually really enjoyed the lighting of this video before you apologized for it at the end so don’t be sorry! It’s gives off such a soft, warm and ethereal vibe!!:))

Mrs.Maisel is such an incredible show. She is so witty and unapologetically herself. Would recommend this show 100%.

Judy Zhu me too. I’ve had five root canals so I floss every damn day!
Same! I enjoy flossing and getting all the icky stuff out. It can be therapeutic~
Remember how that therapist who encouraged you to take ayahuasca said you need to stop playing the role your parents expect you to play? You talking about what you learned from that talk show reminded me of that!

Loved this video but I think one of the main things about Room is the way the information is slowly revealed to you throughout, and your in-depth explanation of the plot took away that major part of the book for people who haven't read it.

hi Jenn! Room actually has a movie adaptation that was nominated for an Oscar a few years back, it's one of my favorite movies and I thought you might be interested to watch it!!
You know Room is a movie? I think it's from 2016. Really good, and they got pretty unknown actors to play Jack and his mom so that was refreshing.
You were not a 'Just happen to have you on the way in your parents life. You were wanted and loved, high expectations should not be placed on anyone, we are all humans and make mistakes.
you have beautiful teeth! 🤗 glad you are taking care of your smile now and encouraging others to do the same! ❤️ love you Jenn!
