  • If you're getting a "card not recognized", "card not found", "kaart niet herkend" , "carte non reconnue" or similar error on your circa 2002 to 2008 Renault Megane, Scenic or similar, probably the transponder antenna has come loose from the main printed circuit board (PCB). You can sometimes get the car to start by bending the card while pressing the start button, but after a while even that won't work anymore.
Since these enclosures are welded shut, they are hard to open and you're probably not able to reuse the plastic box. This video shows how to make a small 'hatch' so you can access the solder joints on the PCB. After soldering, the transponder works again and you're able to start the car normally. This fix is easy and only requires a hobby knife, and a soldering iron and solder to repair.
A new key is another way to fix this issue, but typically start at several hundered Euro's.
Hope this helps save some keyfobs (and maybe cars) from going in the thrash.

Thanks. I hit the thin wire on the transponder, too. However, I managed to solder together the thin wires themself and make the antenna work again. It was a bit shorter than before but does work anyway.

@@sameralquraishi777 It worked for me... do you know how to solder? I unwinded the wire until it ceased to be broken. Then I took some of the longest pieces of the wire and scraped the insulation from the two ends with an exacto knife - a few milimeters was enough. I dipped the ends into the solder flux first, then I applied heat with the soldering iron and covered the ends with some tin. After that, I put those ends together and applied heat so they would stick together. I repeated this process until I soldered on all the longer pieces (looking back now, I don't think putting all those pieces back on was even necessary). I glazed the soldered parts with some transparent varnish for insulation.
My coil still had one end of the wire connected to one of the two contacts so I knew which wire goes where. I simply soldered the end of the free wire to the free contact - after winding it all back on.
      Hope that helps.

did it come loose or did you cut the thin enameled wire? spare antennas can be bought for a € or so on ali etc.

Is that possible? Can I just change it without needing to programmed? It will, works?
