I think most of the " older" detectorists like me ( searching from the late 80s) started with a cscope.
There was not much choice, you saw csope, tesoro and whites. The cs770 was my first md, followed be the whites sl2...stil miss them. I stil have a soft spot for csopes, looking for a good 1220xd.

That's a blast from the past Graeme! I started off with a C-Scope TR Treasure Seeker in 1981 (£40 from my mam's catalogue that I paid back from my paper round) and progressed to a C-Scope 1220b in 1985. I had that one for 10 years before I was lured by the newer models, it never missed a beat and found loads. I remember the discrimination being very accurate and reliable.

I still have my Garrett Freedom Ace Plus, which is exactly like the C-Scope. I bought it in 1992. Two knobs: On/off sensitivity and other knob discrimination. No display. Still working great.

Nice review Graeme. Thanks. Got a soft spot for C-Scope as I started out with a BFO I bought from a friend in school for £5. would love to see a review of the 770. Would be interesting to see what a modern non-motion detector is like.

I love the C-Scope machines, I just wish the prices had been updated. I'd love to try the 6MXi, but the prices are just too high for the current market.
(Plus, I live just down the road from the factory.)

There is nothing wrong with Beep and Dig detectors....I began with the Garrett Freedom 3, then the Fisher 1266X over 30 years ago . Made some great finds with them, especially the Fisher. Detectorists want more bells and whistles which in a way could make a detectorist miss targets. Many rely too much on the VDi....Not sure if I would go back to a beep and dig detector myself...but those were the good ole days!...

if the is a lot of iron in the ground
    put more discrimination on
    and reduce the sensitivity
and way pay £400 for a metal Detecder when you can Bay
    the c. Scope cs 1mx
    matel Detecder for £100 - 60
when it does the same thing
