I think he is the perfect one to convey the depth of the character Faust and the aria is beautiful. I am so excited to see that he will be doing the entire opera next year in Vienna...
@@Bzcenci812 He is a wonderful Faust, but I hope he will sing Faust again elsewhere, that production by Castorf was so awful I couldn't stand it, I had to switch off, although the singers and especially JDF were great. That must be so tough for the singers to work under such conditions.
@@freesienundrosen8726 The worst was the scene of the seduction, and the fake sexual act, luckily a partial video. Perhaps you had already switched off. I couldn't see the last two acts because of a technical problem, but the Austria TV is transmitting the opera next Sunday.
Certainly the greatest tenor of all time-no doubt. However, he continues to force his once effortless golden tones. Most of his singing is now strained. What a shame that he was not a better keeper of that once perfect instrument. Compare his singing now to his voice in 2000-very sad. Thank you for sharing. Much appreciated!
+operadog2000 Calling him "the greatest tenor of all time" is rather risky because there are various types of tenor voices. But undoubtedly Placido Domingo knew what he was saying when called JDF the best tenore leggero (light tenor) of all time. I agree with you that JDF's voice lost much of its previous lightness, brilliance and shine. I also think he forced his unusual instrument and he shouldn't perform so often. But still he has excellent performances, depending on a chosen repertoire and on a day, too. There aren't bad performances of him at all, there are only excellent and better ones in spite of the fact that his singing is often strained. IMHO the concert in Salzburg as a whole was magnificent. What makes JDF always so ravishing is not only the quality of the tone he is able to produce but - maybe mainly - the unique beauty of his timbre, his unmatched musicianship, absolute musical taste and thrilling interpretation, his personality. His singing is hypnotizing, magical...
+operadog2000 very true. there was an article about this very subjeci in the Record Collector given JDF 's singing of Ah mes amis & O muto asil as encores. It is vocal suicide. M. Bott posed the question '' would the young tenor become an old tenor? Henry Webb
"Certainly the greatest tenor of all time-no doubt..." LOL. Much doubt, I'm afraid. "All time" is quite a stretch. This was forced and vulgar in his phrasing. He doesn't have a pure tone and at least here, a firm grasp of legato. Check out Alain Vanzo; or for a heavier voice, DiStefano.
Better ear that by Alfredo Kraus for an example of a great singer. Why always searching who is the best ? Human voice is so different ! Please Juan Diego sing Mozart!
One of the best singers who emits his acuti whith a chest-based mixed voice. He has a gentle lyric instrument that allows him to do this beautifully, on the opposite we got ugly woofy singing of JK. God give signor Florez enough health for long time carrying on.
Please, he is not "signor" Florez, but "señor" Florez. He is a Peruvian and we in Perú speak Spanish. "Signor" is Italian - Best regards from Miraflores, Lima, Peru. Feb 13, 2018.

what short memories some people seem to have....with all due respect to this fine singer, comparing him to the great Tenors of the past which ended with Pavarotti, is not being kind or sensible.
A great Tenor, one of the greatest. But, is he willing to become a Spinto? His voice has changed, especially his vibrato. I don't know whether i should appreciate this or not. Hmm...
Boris von der Linde He doesn't want to become a Spinto. But I think that he wants to make the same career as Alfredo Kraus. Of course if you compare the voices, Kraus had a most powerfull voice. Flórez have a great lyric voice, but his voice is not as big as Krau's ones.
i don't like his timbre and i still think that the best tenore lirico of all time will ever, ever be Giuseppe Di Stefano( at least in his prime). But I must admit that here the acuto is impressive
GdiS didn't last. He sang on natural ability in the early part of his career. After the first decade or so he was totally inconsistent. JDF is an artist and more accomplished in all areas of the singers art.
No sense of French style. High C clean and on pitch but terribly forced with a harsh vibrato. Voice is showing fatigue and wear. Needs to rest and recoup technique.
Ariba Peru!!
Beautiful! Every aria and song rendered by Juan Diego Florez sound special, unique and usually - magnificent! Bravo!
It's very forced actually
Exquisite piano accompaniement as well. Florez's french is a treat for who cares about that. Great version indeed, vocally superb.
It's wonderful!

1 May 2021 He was very good, as always, and so moving as in this register, inspite of singing at the door of a butcher's shop, thanks to modern régie.

Pianist bravo!!!
R.Pariente : Trés belle voix.

I also tought this was strained...heard him do better, he looked like he was strugling.

👍
I very much enjoyed this performance, especially the accompaniment. This is a fine tenor voice, though weak on the low notes.

Franco Corelli owns this
Crazy organist Corelli NO. 1!
Corelli was loud, that's all.
Nobody matches the young de Stefano in this -listen to his 1950 recording.

Nacho Ferrer Alfredo Kraus is one of my favourite Opera Singers.
I'm also confused...
he's getting older. he's been a working singer for almost thirty years. it's gonna happen.
Nowhere near DiStefano's classic.
It's true that his once resplendent voice has dropped. Sad.
Yeah, poor technique
Resplendent? It was never resplendent.
Povero Gounood!
POVERO VERDI, POVERO PUCCINI.

REMEK
Wrong musicality, nasality, too tiny, barking
A bit pushed.
This repertoire is not for him.
Fuera de Repertorio. Mediocre a lo máximo.
Pero todo se lo aplauden...
No sense of French style. High C clean and on pitch but terribly forced with a harsh vibrato. Voice is showing fatigue and wear.
Needs to rest and recoup technique.
voce nasale insopportabile
You must buy another pair of years.
you must study another pair of ears....
....or ceturies
Dilettante.
Inascoltable
Mosquito.
listen to Di Stefano' tendition...Florez is a bad tenor..his voice is boring..his phrasing is boring
he is a mediocre singer..boring rendition of an otherwise magical aria
Not bad. His diction on "E" is not consistent. He should learn the difference between open, close and muted "E". Better than most tenors.
And you are singing a bid sharper on few notes.
