“Great reviews” He literally calls that center diff lock button “rear locking differential”, anyone who done some basic research on GX470 will know that any year gx470 didn’t come with factory rear locking diff. Some of his reviews is good but some of his reviews like this one clearly lacks some basic knowledge on the car!
2003-2009 are model years. production was 2002-2008. It's the LC Prado in other markets which both definitely share the same chassis an 4.7L V8 for a 2003 it's in Fantastic shape. I know someone who has an 07 GX 470 with over 295,000 miles and not a single problem
These were called just the Land Cruiser in Europe. They had the 100 series (Land Cruiser Amazon) for a while but it was replaced with this. The Land Cruiser Prado never got this V8, only the GX470 did. However you could choose between two 4 cylinder engines, a 2.7 petrol (which the Tacoma and 3rd gen 4runner had), a 3.0 diesel (pretty large for a 4 cylinder) and the 3.4 V6 which was replaced with the 4.0 V6, also available in the 4runner.
Yes it is a locking center differential, anyone who has done just a bit more basic research on it will know about that. This guy clearly didn’t do research on the car just like most other journalists on basically anything
Looks to be in great condition for 176000 miles. Wow... I am looking at a 2006 right now that has 120k. It's a one owner trade in at Lexus dealer They are asking $16990. Has yours been trouble free?
Mine has been trouble free and runs great for a car with this mileage. The timing belt is due every 90K miles and costs $1k-1.5K. Since you're buying from a Lexus dealer I imagine the first timing belt service is complete so you wouldn't have to worry about this for a while.
How to turn the vsc light on 2003 lexus GX 470 to make sure the vsc light doesn't turn on again and again because it just turn on this morning @ 10 am Columbia Missouri
Just purchased a 2003 GX470 with only 62k miles. Great ride and very smooth. Only complaint I have is the two large speakers in the front driver and passenger doors were shot when I got it. The Dodge dealership I got it from has agreed to replace them. I'm hoping not the OEM's as I've read they just aren't very good but who knows if that info I read was dated. I'm also consulting a mechanic to see if I need to do the timing belt and water pump now due to age or if I can wait until 90k. Hoping to drive this thing into the ground.
62K miles for a 2003 is incredibly low. It must have spent a lot of time in the garage! I wasn't overly impressed by the OEM speakers but they were reasonably good for a stock system. I don't remember whether mine had the Mark Levinson speakers or not but those are at least a bit better than the base speakers. I would suspect that changing the timing belt now would be recommended, particularly if you live in a drier climate. You've definitely got a lot of miles left in it at only 62K!
Lots of miles is exactly what I'm hoping for. It does have the Mark Levinson system so it is a bit surprising the speakers bombed out. Oh well, it's a minor issue. it's honestly one of the nicer cars I've ever had but I bought it for the reliability.
On second thought, I think I did get the Mark Levinson system and remember being disappointed with the mediocre sound quality. But yes, beyond that it's a solid car.
$12,800. I did purchase a $2300 5 Year/100k mile warranty to go along with it. When I did the BB on it, it pretty much landed right in the middle. I probably should've negotiated a bit as I had to do the timing belt because it was a 2003 (age vs. mileage) but I didn't really figure that out until after I purchased. I had been looking at GX's, LX's, and 4Runners, for quite a while and in my area (Kansas City) this was to me a pretty solid deal even with the timing belt I had to have done. There's always a bit of hindsight but I'm content where I landed on it.
Thanks fir the video! Currently looking at a 2003 Lexus gx470 with 135,000 miles listed for $8k. Gaps in maintenance history, may need new water pump/timing belt, & needs new tires. Think that’s a deal worth considering or you suggest holding off?
Only things that give me a bit of hesitation to buy this (I think its perfect in every other way) is the Mark Levinson sound system, and nav unit that is almost impossible to swap out with an updated screen.
@@DrivenCompanion yeah I know. It’s just that those are (almost) impossible to find. Will keep looking though, I’m in love with the rest of the car especially external appearance
TO ME-(qualifying statement).. the 3rd row seats are NOT an advantage- they're a pain and a waste of space- first thing I'll do with them when I get mine- is either SELL them if I can- or give them away... SECOND- the back door is called a BARN DOOR-- makes much EASIER loading and unloading- as you can stand close to the vehicle than with a drop down tailgate and you won't get knocked in the head with the lift up part as there IS none. Third-- IT"S NOT A DAMN CAR!!!... again- just my view.. but it IS correct.
If I'm not mistaken this is Bend, Oregon! Anyways, do you still have your GX470 and if so, had any issues with it? Do you run regular or premium fuel in it?
You are not mistaken and no I don't have it anymore. I've got a Tacoma now but the GX470 was an excellent car and I have no doubt it will go to 300 or 400K.
@@DrivenCompanion You should read up on it before making this video. It has nothing in common with the 4runner. A quick read of Wiki would help you out. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lexus_GX Quote: "The GX is positioned between the RX crossover and the premium full-size, off-road capable LX SUV. All GX production has occurred at the Tahara plant in Japan, alongside the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Both generations of the GX have been heavily based on the Prado, with updated frontal styling to better integrate with the Lexus lineup. Elsewhere, the changes are less prominent and mainly restricted to minor trimmings, such as wheels and taillamp lenses inserts. The first generation interior largely mirrors that of the Toyota-badged version. The second generation interior has been further differentiated with fewer shared components."
Looks like you didn't read the whole article: "Consumer Reports said that the VSC acted too slowly, and if a wheel hit a curb or slid off the pavement, a rollover accident could occur. The shared-platform Toyota 4Runner passed the test"
@@DrivenCompanion That is a consumers report rollover test and yes the 2 SUV'S are in the same class for it ? But that means nothing when talking about shared platforms. The 2002-2009 GX470 platform is called the J120 shared with the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. The 2002-2009 Toyota 4Runner platform is called the N210 It's is know and stated under the Toyota 4runner wiki that the N210 platform is "Based off" Not shared with the Lexus GX470
I like it because its a little smaller and they are less expensive as a used vehicle because there isn't as much name recognition. I get your point though - I'm personally not crazy that the running boards are stock and the car looks unfinished if you remove them.
Thank you! Great review of the car. I possibly will be purchasing one soon and it was nice to see the added features.
Glad it was helpful! I don't have my GX anymore but would highly recommend it to someone that wants a super luxurious and capable off-roader.

The Diff lock is actually the center (Torsen) differential lock. . Not a rear differential lock.
Thank you for letting me comment on the 2003 lexus GX 470
On vsc light
Nice video I personally compare the gx470 to an AWD toyota Sequoia over 4runner and land cruiser
The Sequoia is significantly larger than all of them.
Mike C with the iPhone 5C, I see its a nice Review.

I’m a trucker~not that it matters~it basically helps all 4 of your tires drive independently to help get out of something you’re stuck in.

Sounds like a solid price to me assuming it’s in good shape
@@DrivenCompanion bottom was completely rusted and covered by spray paint 🙄
@@Salty_Red i can't believe people do that.
It’s not based on the 4Runner, it’s an older platform based on the LandCruiser Prado. And it’s not all wheel drive, it’s permanent four wheel drive.

4 runner? this is a luxury Prado.
Shares the same J120 platform with both, but style wise this is a Prado. You're both correct.

Same J120 platform as both. But the GX470 is a slightly restyled Land Cruiser Prado.

Good review, did you use the UA-cam stabilization though? the picture was distorted at times and was distracting.
I must have. I agree that the stabilization doesn't work very well and must have forgot to switch this one back. I have now. Thanks!
Correction...sold as the Toyota Prado not Land Cruiser in Europe
In this generation they were sold as the Land Cruiser...not sure if it was just UK, or the whole of Europe.

And does it run in 4wd neutral shift mode ? (The second stick being in neutral and the automatic shift in 4d mode) ?
I have Prado. V6 as vx 3 doors 2005 😁
Very rare find. All the ones I see around me are the 4 door with the 4 cylinder engine or the GX470 shown in this video with the V8.
The GX470 is NOT built on the same platform as the 4runner it is the same platform as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado
The GX470 and Land Cruiser Prado are virtually the same vehicle, but both are built on the same platform as the 4runner.
