If you’ve been in the Dragon Ball community for a while you’ll hear a lot of characters get called frauds. Vegetto gets called a fraud for the dumbest reasons. It seems like Vegeta and Gohan fans are having fraud offs on the daily, but we all really know that Mr. Satan is the biggest fraud in Dragon Ball and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
You see Mark here - oh yeah that’s his real name according to Toriyama by the way - is a fraud by the time we meet him, but he wasn’t always that way. He won his first Tenkaichi Budoukai, the 24th, with his own strength and techniques, but that was probably the worst thing to happen to him. Master Roshi entered the 21st Tenkaichi Budoukai to make sure Goku and Krillin gained humility. It was possible that winning their first tournament and receiving the most prestigious victory in martial arts would make them complacent and arrogant when there was still so much for them to learn.
Mr. Satan is the realization of this. His master was dead when he entered his first Tenkaichi Budoukai. There wasn’t someone to make sure he learned this lesson so he didn’t. He became complacent and arrogant. Even if Goku and the others didn’t enter the 25th Tenkaichi Budoukai there were other threats to his title - like his own daughter. Despite him claiming his opponents use tricks to win or seem flashy and cool he’s the one actually using tricks to achieve his victories or avoid defeat. A man who once became world champion through his own merits was now only holding that title with deceit and the help of others. Yet somehow I think he’s also earned the right to keep his title and he also might be the best example of a hero - by Dragon Ball standards.

Friendly reminder if Mr. Satan were real that he'd be the strongest guy on Earth. He can smash through concrete with ease, move multiple busses and can take one hell of an ass beating. He'd beat prime Mike Tyson through sheer durability
That is what makes me question if he is comic relief or just a reminder of how much of a joke normal human strength is compared to the db cast

Though I do think the full version can be found somewhere on UA-cam.

I've honestly think I've gained a new appreciation for Mr. Satan. Back when I first got into DBZ in 2013 I honestly really hated Mr. Satan for taking Gohan's credit, and his gimmicks irritated me back then. While he's by no means my favorite character, I've grown to think of him as amusing and considering how he's paid back Goku's family and his concern for Buu I've grown to enjoy him.
he doesnt deserve all the hate. i think its refreshing to see a human every once in a while, its a nice change of pace from the crazily powerful aliens threatening to destroy earth or something.

I mean, he did stop Buu. Delaying Buu the way he did by befriending him, surviving the extinction attack because of that friendship, and then convincing the world to give the energy it took to put down Kid Buu. If he weren't there Buu would have won at so many steps.
Temporarily, he did. Fat Boo was basically reformed until those two asshole gunmen came along and caused the birth of Evil Boo.

You'd be surprised how many people worship pre-Buu saga Vegeta. He didn't grow on me until Super.
I think it's less being able to relate and more just being entertained by Vegeta. Like he's a prideful to a fault, arrogant, rude, and has a staggeringly high body count, but damn if he doesn't say and do the coolest shit, lol.

Yes. And him coming to terms that what he witnessed wasn't light shows and tricks. These are fellas that are able to weaponize their life energy to make those various blasts and techniques and have planetary-level and beyond power output and endurance as well.
Yeah, and his reputation and status is actually a big help for Guko and the rest, he can redirect people's attention to him while Guko and others can have low profile and hide from the public eyes. In exchange, Mr. Satan is protected especially because of his unity to Guko through his daughter's marriage to Gohan.
I will always love Mr Satan, his English voice is just iconic.
Whenever a create a character option is available in any sort of fighting game, he is always my go to. Mark “Hercule” Satan is the embodiment of modern day wrestling.

His actions during the Buu saga totally redeemed him, is one of the most memorable moments of the entire series
In short, we don't appreciate this man enough. Most of the Z fighters like Goku and Piccolo do though, and they acknowledge Mr. Satan not cause he's strong, but because he's HIM. He's willing to step up when the people need it, even without ki control or alien biology, no android modifications and no infinite energy. In the end, he's really just him.

Remember he shows bravery in Super as well, in the anime he steps up to join the TOP, albeit he forgets he’s not that strong by comparison. For a split second he does genuinely seems to want to join before Goku tells him it’s a battle of the strongest.

I like how pan also keeps in line with the naming scheme a bit, being a pun in two ways, with pan meaning bread in some languages sticking with how a lot of dragon ball characters are named after food, but pan is also the name of a character in Greek mythology who was a bit of a trickster and trouble maker.

Mark turning Majin Buu into good being inadvertently saved the Earth in the Moro Arc. Without the Great Lord of Lords appearing to Uub to give Goku the God energy, the planet eater would have won.

This video highlights why Mr. Satan is one of my favorite characters. He isn’t strong like Goku and Vegeta, but he’s just as much of a hero as they are. He has flaws, but at heart he is a good guy that cares for his daughter and the people around him. While I have some issues with the Buu Arc, I loved seeing Hercule get closer to Buu and the dog, as well as him helping save the day at the end. He isn’t perfect (Only Cell is /j), but he isn’t a bad person. He may not have Ki control, but he’s a promising Martial Artist if he won the 24th Tenkaichi Budokai fair and square. He may be overconfident, but he’s willing to swallow his pride if it means saving the day. I just hope future chapters of the DBS Manga keep the charm of the character.

Mr Satan just does the first thing that comes to his mind and that's why he's such a great character. not only does he have a massive ego and is way to confident in his abilities but hes also the first to make a decision no matter how risky to him that decision is.

I feel confident in saying that Mr Satan is the character that threw the least when it mattered. He always did his best to contribute with whatever cards life dealt him.
I'm pretty sure if he was ever given Z warrior level of strenght, he would easily be tied with Piccolo as the "most reliable" fighter.

Both of the penultimate enemies of Dragonball Z, would have been unstoppable without the few small actions made by Hercule.
I never thought he was weak, but did underestimate how useful he was to the Z-Fighters. He deserves his title aa the Champion of Earth... especially since the only stronger opponents are aliens 😂.

seeing a character be a lot weaker than everyone around them just hits different in every story writting. mr satan is epic! wish they would do more with him in the series.

Honestly what makes Mr Satan such a hero is that, in the midst of literal gods and gods among men, he is just a mostly normal dude. He's very strong by normal people's standards, but he at the end of the day is just *a guy* and as you stated he still manages to work up the courage to do his part when most people would hesitate or be completely frozen in fear. His true power is his ability to be normal but still be willing to do what must be done for the good of others, even with his normally cowardly and vain nature.
I like to think an honest autobiography of Mr Satan would look like some lovecraftian novel full of beings too powerfull to be understood, shattered reality and apocalyptic situations getting mundane...

There was also the time when kid buu was going to kill an injured good buu and Mr Satan taunted kid buu into a fight to pull his attention away from good buu. Mr Satan reasoned he would likely die as he built up the courage to do so but said “Fine. So be it.” in the dub.

I’d love to see a similar style video for High-school Gohan/Great Saiyaman, considering much like Hercule, he gets so much flack despite actually being some of my favorite character writing in Dragon Ball Z. Mr. Satan was also instrumental in DragonBall GT. He, with the help of Good Buu, saved Pan from Baby as the parasite infected Earth. And she later helped Goku come back to his senses.

That's actually one of the things I like about early Super: the Z-Fighters use Mr. Satan as a cover so they can live relatively peaceful lives, Mr. Satan gives Goku the reward money for the heroics he takes credit for, and his credibility with the world gets people to evacuate from dangerous situations so the Z-Fighters can fight without worry.
Mr Satan is no human, he is a deity from some other Universe...come to think of it, we never got a Mr Satan origin story
The truth is, he is secretly keeping an eye on the Z warriors, and instead of finishing the fights himself, he pushes the main caste to do so, while he keeps acting like an idiot...
He is doing it to create the "Strongest Pure-hearted warrior"...and one day he'll reveal his true self...that day we would witness the legendary battle between Satan and Goku

I want to thank you for this video in particular. I love all your videos but this one was made especially for a character most people would throw away or brush off as filler. My best friend, brother, and I were pissed when Goku saved “Hurcle” (lol )and Dende. We all felt Vageta words to be true. Boy how wrong were we all!
A poor writer would have introduced a character like this as filler just to annoy the people. But a great writer introduces characters to push the story further and with an amazing payoff towards the end. That’s exactly what we all got from Mr. Satan throughout his journey.

I'm always wondering why everyone assumes Mr Satan is viewed as weak among the fandom. He's usually viewed as barely above a normal human. Strength wise i view him as a throwback to the martial artists from the OG Dragonball. Basically him being any final 8 tournament competitor. (80-200 power level) he's weak by current power levels but compitant based on normal standards.
I'd like to see him vs King Chappa, who was not only an ex-champion but whose character design is just "Mr Satan but Black"
@@pattersong6637 most likely any fighter who is non Ki using would be a good matchup for him. Thinking about it at least the Dub Mr Satan i think mentioned spoavirch (the guy videl fought) was a joke in the last tournament. Or wasn't that strong in the last tournament.
I think most people just see him as a joke character. While he is most people use that as he doesn't know what he's doing. I just assume that he knows what he's doing in Z bits just in way over his head. Hell he at least tried to help against Buu after seeing what happened in the cell games.

I've just wanted to watch the last parts of the buu saga the other day after years of not seein anything dbz related, and thought about how that saga is the redemtion of the arrogants: both mr satan and vegeta were to me the key figures of the arc: satan by his compation of buu and kindness towards him that made him a good guy, so became an ally at the end of the battle against kid buu. At the same time, vegeta's sacrifice by killing himself in an explosion of energy, and latter down the line his recognition of weekness after facing kid buu yet holding unrelenting will to tank him for as much as goku needs and his plan to get the dragonballs to get people to help with a henkidama was exactly what he needed. The arrogants have a place after all

I do love how Buu was so influenced by Buu that he literally shot out his evil so he wouldn't rampage. And that the first thing the evil Buu did was kill the people who hurt Mr. Satan and the puppy.

This video actually made me tear up, I just enjoy hearing people say good things about characters that are “hated” or “joke characters” idk
Mr Satan had a moment in the Buu arc where he reasons "if I convince Buu not to be evil anymore, then I really have saved the world" which he did. Then his progress was undone because of the actions of other humans. After the Saiyans dropped the ball at every turn in the arc, who cleans up after them and convinces the world to power the spirit bomb? Mr Satan.
That being said, he could pull THREE tour busses and rip those phone books in half. Something that Mythbusters had TANKS* trying to do and couldnt. (Its been awhile since i watched the episode so i dont remember it it went exactly so dont take it at face value)
It was two phone books with their pages interlaced, and two tanks couldn't pull them apart due to the friction

I like how when Mr. Satan starts giving a speech to everyone when they started dissing on Vegeta because he got pissed off, but TFS Satan instead got frustrated at Vegeta during the speech instead of everyone else insulting him... It shows that both version of him basically become the same changed man afterwards...
It also helps that Mr. Satan literally said only 3 words and everyone started cheering him on 😂

I have opinions about Super but I love Satan as a permanent homie to the series. Guy's rich as hell yet also offers the award money to Goku later on claiming HE deserved it and not himself

NGL that was beautifully done. Also hits the whole thing home that at the beginning of Super (at least the anime; idk about the manga) Mr. Satan also gives money to Goku that was given to him due to his perceived role in finishing Buu. He still has his moments but he's clearly quite self aware of his place.
