  • No hive beetle larvae!! I tried to cut out some of the windy parts. Will improve on future videos. Battery died before I finished checking the hive but I wanted to share what little I got. Thanks so much for watching!

That's awesome that the peppermint has been working so great for everyone! I'm blessed to not have a Hive Beetle problem where I'm at (Especially being in the South), but if I ever do, I know what I'm trying! Peppermint all the way! Thanks for sharing your success!

Thanks Texas! I'm so happy to not have to make it back within 5 days to check those patties.

Thank Earl. So pleased with the peppermint trick you've revived buddy! A game changer! It's hard to get back to them every 5 days when you're feeding patties. Not a problem anymore. God bless you brother and your bees too for sure.

Yes. Me too. I was using my cell phone on this video. I have a gopro now with a foam cover. Works very well. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Does it matter if it's hard or soft peppermint candies? Or do you melt it into their sugar water? Interested to see if they work for me in south Alabama coastal area. If so it could be a game changer for us in Baldwin County. We are always swamped with hive beetles. We even have issues in the winter with them at times.

I use the hard candies. Make sure the ingredients show peppermint oil. I also use 1 tsp of peppermint oil extract in 5 lb batch of homemade pollen patties. You can also crush up peppermint candy and put on the pollen patties. Hope this helps. It has no doubt cut down my small hive beetle sightings significantly. Most of my hives have none. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.

      Is it still working?

It works as a repellent I'm convinced. However, with a bad infestation, they will still come in significant numbers. Formerly, I would never leave a pollen patty more than 5 days and would generally have beetle larvae at that point. Now I feel confident up to 7 days or more early in the season. Guys further south are reporting similar results. They still have beetles less than before.

I think mice don’t like it either. Win win win.

What about planting peppermint plants under/around the hives?

I'm planting Lavender and some Italian herbs such as oregano and thyme around the property for the bees to forage on. Read about essential oils for bees, its interesting how many plants can benefit honeybees.
