I finally bought an Instant Pot and I chose the 3 qt model ($56 / Target) mainly because I am single. I have cooked a whole chicken; two Cornish hens; small pot roast; soup; mushroom gravy; rice; steamed root veggies; and steel-cut oats in the mini...oh, and quinoa. I am so pleased. I have used only it and the microwave since the purchase.
Great job! would love to see more recipes using the 3 qt instant pot. I'm using it on a trip and only have a frig, no freezer so need ideas of what I can cook without having more than a day of left overs for 2 people.
I guess a lot of people who searched this video was considering of buying 3qt but wondering if they can cook a whole chicken. I'm one of them and this video convinced me that 3qt has so much potential. I'm sold.
That chicken was large and was cooked perfectly in the 3 Qt. pot and that is the one I have since I cook for one person as I live by myself. The dish you made is perfect and would be great with mashed potatoes and cornbread. The broth can be poured over the potatoes to make for a great dish.
Thank you for posting this. I was having trouble finding a good video which showed how the mini looked in proportion to other things. Most clips just show the cooker. Choosing a whole chicken really allowed me to see how big the three quart size is. I know that I will get the six-quart cooker first, and maybe the three-quart later. Very helpful!!
Just made this tonight. First time ever. Free range, antibiotic free etc etc. 4 pounder. It was small enough to use the trivet. Ohhhhh my goodness. Well it’s not a presentation bird but I’ll cut it up and put in my veggie bean soup. Thank you soo much for these “Mini” iPot recipes. 👍👍👍
I tied my chicken with twine. This makes a rope handle for easily pulling my chicken out of pot. Thread twine through the chicken and wrap up around drumsticks and wings. Helpful hint.
I sometimes brown stuff with the propane torch that I use for plumbing. To brown under the broiler more evenly you can take some kitchen sheers and cut along one side of the backbone and flatten it out. That may be easier when it's cold. Thanks for this... I only have the mini duo and have been cutting my chickens up.
I regularly do a 3 to 4 lb pork roast in my 3qt mini IP, turns out great every time. I've been considering a whole chicken, just havent gotten around to it yet. Thanks for the video.
Im glad to see that worked! The 6 qt instant pot I got as a gift was too big for my countertop so Im getting a 3 quart one and giving the 6 quart one to my sister who has 2 kids.
Thank you for this video. Tomorrow I was going to return my 6 quart instant pop because I just bought it today, opened it and thought it wouldn't fit a whole chicken. Then I saw your video with the whole chicken and the 3 qt pot and I feel so relieved now. Besides, you give advices like time and water capacity. Thanks, thanks a lot!
Winner, winner, chicken 🐔 dinner! Thank you for this recipe for 3 qt. The chicken turns out moist, tender and full of flavor. Allow an hour for cooking before enjoying!
I have an InstantPot DUO60. It is the most amazing kitchen appliance that I have ever purchased. I can’t believe you got that whole four pound chicken in a three quart model ! 🤣
Nilli, thanks so much for an Instant Pot mini recipe! Not too many of those around & your seasonings sound delicious. I've also had success in my mini spatchcocking the chicken & squishing it in there and/or then cutting it in half. If you use a shallow trivet on the bottom, you can sometimes get a 2nd trivet in there to stack both halves below top of pot. That then gets a nice browning all over because chicken lays flat on pan in oven. Now I want Instant Pot chicken with your recipe. 😂💟
I’m so glad to know a chicken will fit in the small instant pot. I have been wishing I had a larger one so I could cook a whole chicken. Now I am going to try this. Thanks
I've been debating on whether I should get and Instant Pot and which size. After watching this I'm going to get one for sure and it'll be the 3qt. Since I only have to cook for myself, that should be just the right size. Looks like it'll cook what I like with leftovers for a day or two. Thank you!
HA!!!!! This is what is on my meal plan for dinner tomorrow 😎. Thanks for sharing the video! Now I don’t have to go back looking for the spice rub ingredients and the time check, LOL! You’re the bomb! Have a great week 🙂
Hi, I've jut bought a mini for my van, and looking for informantion on how to use it. Really happy to have found your really clear and useful videos. Many, many thanks, I'm having a deeper look on your channel. Have a nice day. Greetings from Spain 🙋♀😀
Thank you. You help so much with all your explanations . I have a 8 qt instant pot because I cook very often broths for my husband but for everyday and 2 people it's very big. I think to order the Mini duo when i's Prime Day .Hope I won't miss this day ! Hope you will have time to do more videos with the mini. Thank you Nill.
I am Single old man that travels in a RV and was wondering if I could get by with the 3 quart pot? After watching your video I think it would be perfect. My old crockpot just died, so moving on up to the Insta pot.
Marvelous, Nili!! I can't believe you got that whole chicken in the 3qt pot! My friend, Fran, has a 3 qt IP so I'm going to introduce her to your site!!! :)
My Goodness, the bowl looked bigger than the Inner pot! You could put some cut up onions on the bottom of the pot to lift it up a bit too. And it adds flavor.
Thank you so much❤️..I wanted yo see what size would be the smallest possible Crock Pot that could fit a whole chicken snugly? Cos I'm alone, and do not want to lug around a regular size Crock Pot all the time thats nit necessary? They reduce in size anyways as they cook...
Thanks for the great videos on IP's. Do you think the 3qt would we useful/meaningful for a family of 3? Or would it be too limiting? I have a 6 lt stove top pressure cooker so there's that. And there's a great deal on the 3 qt now, almost 1/3 price of the 6 qt. So I'm really torn 😵💫
Were you able to get a fair amount of juice out of the chicken? I like to oven roast my chicken and then use the broth for chicken noodles and I was hoping it would still be juicy enough to be able to use in the Instant Pot
Was delicious, next one I am going to loosen the skin and put spices underneath that way when I peel skin off the flavor is there, I am at 7,000 ft alt. So I did 45, 15 NR
i just got mine new and i didn't realize the timer was in minutes. i thought it was minutes and seconds, like a microwave. i overcooked some potatoes in there .. :(
Btw in egyptian cooking we always cook the chicken in soup, and use the stock for cooking the rest of dinner, so I never use the trivet, I also never saute mine, but I do crisp it in the oven after
I've been using a slow cooker a crock pot forever but this is a lot faster and in a Crock-Pot it would take like 5 to 6 or so hours on low or 4 hours to 5 hours on high but this only took 25 min that's great
I like having the 3 qt sitting on my counter at all times (I have a small kitchen!). I can cook most things in it but when I need to make a big batch of something I can still pull out my 8qt. And like Elizabeth said, it's great when I need to cook 2 things at once!
Brilliant nili yet again. In my baby ip,,,,,I use a couple of rolled balls of cooking foil just to raise of bottom, works every time,I then brown in the air fryer. What are you like nili......a spice rub sends very different pictures in my brain ...lol!!😂🙊💞👍
It depends on what you're cooking. I have both, so that I can have a main dish and a side dish or rice cooking at the same time. Or make yogurt in one and still be able to cook dinner in the other. I couldn't say which one I like better.
Have watched this many-a-time and am compelled to finally throw in a "thank-you" comment.
Oh how I miss the old style videos, takes me back, watching these old instant pot videos.
Truck driver here, cooking a stew right now, first use of my mini in the truck. I was smelling stew, but your video has me smelling chicken. Yum!
Thank you for the mini recipe, we need more mini recipes they are hard to find.
Ccr Reilly yes! Agreed

I was thinking about returning mine but I might keep it after reading this and watching the video
Thanks for making this video. I was trying to decide between the 3 qt and the 6 qt, and the ability to fit a whole chicken is the deciding factor.
Great job! would love to see more recipes using the 3 qt instant pot. I'm using it on a trip and only have a frig, no freezer so need ideas of what I can cook without having more than a day of left overs for 2 people.

Wow! I seriously doubted this would work. Now I really want a mini!

Thanks for this... I only have the mini duo and have been cutting my chickens up.
Oh... and nice carving skills at the end!
This was a great tip for broiling! Thanks! I’ll have to try it. Mine is coming to pressure now ☺️
Yummy .. Thanks .🙂👍🥂
Finally! Easy fully explained how to video, (first time I Pot owner)😊
I regularly do a 3 to 4 lb pork roast in my 3qt mini IP, turns out great every time. I've been considering a whole chicken, just havent gotten around to it yet. Thanks for the video.
What is your cooking time?
@@misha9179 for a beef roast, I do 20 minutes per pound of roast.
Im glad to see that worked! The 6 qt instant pot I got as a gift was too big for my countertop so Im getting a 3 quart one and giving the 6 quart one to my sister who has 2 kids.
Great demo, thanks and using the mini was just what I needed. You give good, clear instructions!
Thank you for this video. Tomorrow I was going to return my 6 quart instant pop because I just bought it today, opened it and thought it wouldn't fit a whole chicken. Winner, winner, chicken 🐔 dinner! Thank you for this recipe for 3 qt. The chicken turns out moist, tender and full of flavor. Allow an hour for cooking before enjoying!
Like seeing the mini in action. Thanks for sharing.
I love your instant pot videos!! Thank you for doing another one!!!
i'm a total newbie, just bought instant pot, duo novq 3qt... loved the chicken thing, you explained it so well, i just subscribed
I wonder if I can fit and reheat a rotisserie chicken that you already get at the supermarket cook is frankly they're the best I've ever had
I have an InstantPot DUO60. It is the most amazing kitchen appliance that I have ever purchased. I can’t believe you got that whole four pound chicken in a three quart model ! 🤣
USNVA11 I will probably cut it up. :-)

Great experiment! Good to know it fits. And good to know about 6 min/lb cooking a whole chicken.
Hugs to the kiddies. 💝💝💝
I’m so glad to know a chicken will fit in the small instant pot.
I have been wishing I had a larger one so I could cook a whole chicken. Now I am going to try this.
Thanks
I wish I could give this 1,000 likes. Awesome video thanks!

Great choice! You'll love it!
Trying this tonight. Excited to see how this turns out. Doing it without the trivia since We’ve misplaced it.
I never would have attempted to cook a bird that large in that tiny IP!!! 🤣🤣🤣. Great job!!! Cannot believe it fit!!!
Alice Adler thats what she said.
HA!!!!! This is what is on my meal plan for dinner tomorrow 😎. Thanks for sharing the video! Now I don’t have to go back looking for the spice rub ingredients and the time check, LOL! You’re the bomb! Have a great week 🙂

Thanks for the mini recipe...they are hard to find and I'm gonna go out and try this today!!!
I recently purchased the 3 quart mini IP to go along with my 6 quart. I've been wondering what I can cook in it...so THANK YOU for doing this video!!
Have ip mini in my truck will give this a try thanks for sharing
Thank u for this video it’s perfect for two people. Hope to see more recipes for this size from you
You're welcome! In case you haven't seen it, I wrote a whole cookbook dedicated to the mini. You can find it on Amazon here: amzn.to/2zNjHXk 😊
I really appreciate you doing this. I've been trying to decide if I'd want the mini and wanted to know if I could cook a small bird in it.
I am Single old man that travels in a RV and was wondering if I could get by with the 3 quart pot? After watching your video I think it would be perfect. My old crockpot just died, so moving on up to the Insta pot.
The 3qt is perfect for single people and I've heard it's great for RVing! 😊
I think the 3 qt would be great for you! I have a 6 qt in the house, but purchased a 3 qt for our RV!
Thanks for the video, Nili! I have the mini, but hadn't tried a whole chicken yet. Great info!
Awesome was wondering if a whole bird would fit . Thanks !
Love coming home from work and throwing a frozen chicken in my IP and with in 1 hour I have dinner all ready!
Yes! So convenient!
Thank you so much❤️..I wanted yo see what size would be the smallest possible Crock Pot that could fit a whole chicken snugly? Cos I'm alone, and do not want to lug around a regular size Crock Pot all the time thats nit necessary? They reduce in size anyways as they cook...
I wonder if you can put cut up potatoes or carrots in the cavity and use that space for a side dish.
That's possible but you might need to increase cooking time since the heat won't be able to circulate the same way 🙂
thank you! trying this out in my mini. super useful video!
Thanks for the video on the 3Q. I bought a 6Q - Just feeding 1 person, the 6Q is huge for me. I will buy the 3Q - thanks for the recipe as well.
Thank you for this demo! It was really helpful!
Could you fit the trivet upside down?
Looks great but did you flip the bird to broil on other side for 5 minutes also?
I didn't this time but you totally could 🙂
Thanks for the IP 3 qt whole chicken recipe. I sent my daughter the link to this video because I plan to send her a 3 qt IP in the near future. :)
Loved this, does the same time go for chicken parts? More mini recipes please.
That's awesome! I'm really considering getting one on Prime Day. I had no idea it would hold that much!
Enjoyed the video. So the broth and juices from the cooking chicken keep it from burning on the bottom without the trivet ?
Yes 🙂
If I’m just cooking for my husband and myself. Don’t you think the mini is all we need?
Thanks for the great videos on IP's. Do you think the 3qt would we useful/meaningful for a family of 3? Or would it be too limiting? I have a 6 lt stove top pressure cooker so there's that. And there's a great deal on the 3 qt now, almost 1/3 price of the 6 qt. So I'm really torn 😵💫
Were you able to get a fair amount of juice out of the chicken? I like to oven roast my chicken and then use the broth for chicken noodles and I was hoping it would still be juicy enough to be able to use in the Instant Pot
Oh yes. Lots of wonderful juices in the pot after cooking. ☺️
Was delicious, next one I am going to loosen the skin and put spices underneath that way when I peel skin off the flavor is there, I am at 7,000 ft alt. So I did 45, 15 NR
i noticed you did not put water in it how about putting some kind of gravy over it while you cook it?
WOW. I accidentally ordered one and I should of sent it back. I didn’t! That you for your video. I will be using it now
Crazy that the mini is able to handle a 4+ lb chicken.
Looks delicious, will give it a try
Wow i didn't think a full sized chicken could fit in the 3qt. Good to know.😊
Excellent video. Clear and concise. I'm going to try this one tonight!
Beautiful chicken! Nice experiment!
That is a huge chicken!
That’s really good to know since I’m hoping to get a good deal on a mini on the 16th. Thanks, Nili!
life saver! I have to cook a chicken today and was so lost as to how =) thank you!
I’m getting my first IO.. Thus was perfect. Thanks.
Can you please make a video of making rice pudding on the mini?
Great vid. I love my mini. Now even more. Great job. 👍
Great video - thanks for the mini IP - very useful info
i just got mine new and i didn't realize the timer was in minutes. i thought it was minutes and seconds, like a microwave. i overcooked some potatoes in there .. :(
The chickens we buy are 2lbs, I often cook 2 frozen but I have an 8 qt
Btw in egyptian cooking we always cook the chicken in soup, and use the stock for cooking the rest of dinner, so I never use the trivet, I also never saute mine, but I do crisp it in the oven after
I've been using a slow cooker a crock pot forever but this is a lot faster and in a Crock-Pot it would take like 5 to 6 or so hours on low or 4 hours to 5 hours on high but this only took
25 min that's great
Thanku for taking the time to show us this experiment I deeply appreciate it. Thanku and where did u get your instant pot times sheet?
Amazon sells one, I took a screenshot with my phone.
I have an 8 qt IP. It cooks everything beautifully. What are the advantages of this smaller size? I cook for my husband and myself.
You can cook vegetables or rice in the small one while cooking the main dish in the 8 qt.
I like having the 3 qt sitting on my counter at all times (I have a small kitchen!). I can cook most things in it but when I need to make a big batch of something I can still pull out my 8qt. And like Elizabeth said, it's great when I need to cook 2 things at once!
she ate that whole chicken off screen, i know she did😋
I would too!😊
Brilliant nili yet again. In my baby ip,,,,,I use a couple of rolled balls of cooking foil just to raise of bottom, works every time,I then brown in the air fryer.
What are you like nili......a spice rub sends very different pictures in my brain ...lol!!😂🙊💞👍
Thanks for making this vid..I can't wait for my mini to arrive 😀
Surprised me to get that bad boy in the mini. I will try the rub. Its simple , but looks pretty tasty.
Thank you , this was great ..a 4 lb. chicken in a 3qt,😊
I made a 4.7 pound chicken in a 3 qt instapot using your method. Check it out!
OMG thanks so much
Good review!
i am 10 seconds in, and you are a beast. awesome. I am into it 100% lets do this okok about to watch thanks!!
yes!! worked!I learned a lot.
Going to try that this morning and make bone broth out of it
THANKS!
Which one do you like better the big or little instant pot?
It depends on what you're cooking. I have both, so that I can have a main dish and a side dish or rice cooking at the same time. Or make yogurt in one and still be able to cook dinner in the other. I couldn't say which one I like better.
Both! I am finding that I use the 3qt most often for daily use and then pulling out my 8qt for when I do big batches of food prep.
can you use a frozen chicken?
nevermind. I just finished watching the rest of video.
Thanks a bunch:)
Dead link to Amazon for 3 qt mini
So then I throw my chix carcass w broth and some taters n carrots in the pot and make a delish thick soup. You can add the dumplings on top too.
Looks like 7 people can’t read symbols. No it’s the one on the left. The thumbs up. That’s right. That’s ok we all make mistakes sometimes. 😜
😂😂😍
I’m curious as to why you wanted to do this?
It's an easy, delicious and convenient meal. Why wouldn't I want to do it?! 😄
Your recipe calls for Smoked Paprika..... The only thing out there was Smoked Spanish Paprika..... Same thing?
Yes, that will work just fine ☺️
