    does the wort chiller help prevent wild yeasts and bacteria from taking over because it takes so long to cool naturally?

    Hey, what psi did you set the beer to when kegging? And for how long?
    Tried following the recipe and kegged it at 12psi for 6 days and it still needs more carbonation. Any advice?

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 роки тому +1

      Usually I set it to about 10-12 and it takes a week. You can burst carb at higher pressures for shorter time but then you risk over carbonating. I would say just give it a few more days. Otherwise next time burst carb at 35psi for 24 hours and then lower it down to 10psi for a day or so if you want it done fast

    Superb video, I actually use the same wort chiller concept, but I recirculate mine with a frozen solid 5 gallon bucket of ice with a little water on top to get it going. Cheers!

    Great video! Just a quick note: freezing doesn't actually kill all of the microbes that are in fruit. Freezing fruit prior to adding into beer is mainly used to break down cell walls, making the fruit a bit juicier. Many spoilage microbes are hard to kill and a freeze won't do the job. Soaking the fruit in a Sodium Metabisulfite mixture will help. Let it sit for 10 minutes, remove the fruit, freeze/thaw, and add it to your beer!

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 роки тому

      Thanks, I usually keep it in the keg until it’s empty and then clean it up. You could try pulling it out earlier but could risk oxidation.

    • @TheBruSho

      Try using a brewing software to calculate how much you need for your system. I use percentages because everyone has different levels of efficiency. So your amounts might be different than mine

    Yo! Just started getting into the home brewing game and I came across your channel! Great content dude! I got a quick question. What types of wheat and hops do you think is best for you to complement fruit? Specifically pineapple and mango?

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 роки тому +1

      Hey thanks for watching! There are TONS of hops that can give fruity notes. I really like Amarillo, El Dorado, and Citra. I recommend going to usahops.org/hop-finder to get a better idea of all the potential flavor and aroma options!

    Would a 8.5 gallon brew kettle be too small to BIAB this recipe?! Im going to move to BIAB after i finish off the 3 extract kits I have and was trying to decide if i need to move up in kettle size right away or if i can get away with my current kettle for a few batches before moving to a bigger one.

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 роки тому +1

      I have an 8 gallon kettle and make 5 gallon batches all the time with no problem. The stronger the beer the more space you will need so I guess if you see yourself doing huge beers all the time I’d go a little bigger. But for your average brew 8.5 is perfect

    Grain bills video please teach us how to calculate the % into lbs. I am assuming you are basing this 5 gallon on 10lbs ?

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 роки тому

      Yeah 5 gals but amounts depend on your individual efficiency. If you use a brewing software you can get percentages when you add grains. Then just add them until you hit the OG

    • @TheBruSho

      I haven’t had it happen but I suppose it could happen. An easy fix would be to shoot co2 down the liquid side to clear any clog

    How does one increase the abv in the recipe?

    • @TheBruSho

      Great question! You could either mash at a lower temp (ex: 148-150ºF) to get more fermentable sugars or add some sugar to the boil

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  3 роки тому

  • @anglercc
    @anglercc 3 роки тому

    Put the Mellon chunks in a blender after removing the watermelon rind. The seeds and fibers will fall out. Then you have straight watermelon juice you can add after fermentation is complete.

    • @TheBruSho

      Great tip! Will have to try this next time, guess you just need to make sure blender is sanitized

    • @anglercc

      I actually freeze the juice and drop it in one block into the fermentor. I don’t want the juice starting to ferment before it gets in the keg and chilled down. Which has happened to me. Live n learn
