Right? I've seen guys who don't identify as women but still like things that are seem as more feminine, and the vise versa of course. These people seem to act like only guys like 100% masculine things and women only like 100% feminine things, and if you don't then you're a different gender.

Blair, i am a 70 yr old grandma who has a grandson (age 25) that has recently told us he is trans sexual. I have been trying to watch as many videos to understand and support my grand son. It is doubly stressful because both his father and uncle (my sons are both very close to Jamie) and are pastors . You seem to be the only logical, sane person on UA-cam. Thank you for being so open.

You should ask him some serious questions about why he wants to transition and why he thinks he's Trans. There's no such thing...only the drive to want to change. I love this simple definition: The goal of non-binary people is to completely destroy and deconstruct the binary. And the goal of trans people is to operate within the binary as in moving from one to the other.
Language use is so important, and the dominating attitude to destroy language and reshape it is really just a new form of colonization. I love your simple dissection and acknowledgment of words.

Reminds me a lot of Terence McKenna's points on language influencing reality. I fundamentally disagree with the popular statement "the limits of my language mean the limits of my reality." But the way you use language certainly has a powerful impact on our perception of reality as well as on the state of being of the other person you're talking to, and how they interpret what you're trying to communicate. So many people have different associations with the same words that intellectual discourse across this artificial divide is almost impossible.

I think people confuse the term non-binary with the term androgynous... Non-binary describes your gender, where you don't exclusively feel completely female/male. Androgynous, on the other hand, describes how you represent your outward appearance like with fashion, where you can naturally look somewhere in between or your fashion not being either girly or manly.
So you can be a transexual, since you're more confrotable being in the other sex, and still like to represent yourself somewhere in between, being a androgynous.

Moreover narcissists will use their sexuality to control others and bisexuality is just that - a matter of collecting and controlling their primary objects.

The irony in all of this is nonbinary people seemingly want no part in binary constructs yet they draw conclusions of their own identity *entirely* based on the idea that certain behaviors or hobbies ARE binary; example, the most common thing I see from this video is just men with full on beards wearing full glam makeup *because* of the fact that it's a majorly female dominated activity. If you are girl that enjoys typically male dominated activities, that doesnt mean you arent female that most likely means you are a tomboy. Same goes for guys that enjoy typically female dominated activities. Such as men wearing makeup; they are still men, they just enjoy wearing makeup. At the most, maybe some of these people havent even considered the idea that they are simply just into crossdressing. All of these are not mutually exclusive to a certain gender identity and are not the same thing as being a trans person. The irony kills me
I get your point on saying how because you are a girl and like boy stuff doesn't mean that you're trans, you're just a tomboy. But that's not how being trans works. Being trans isn't just about being AMAB or AFAB and liking things stereotypically of the opposite gender, and then thinking you are the opposite gender because of it. There is A LOT more that goes into the transition, like gender dysphoria or euphoria.
And it's also about the idea of being socially and physically being comfortable identifying as the gender you were assigned at birth. Also, I would just like to point the fact that it's so hilarious people are getting so uptight about this whole nonbinary, transgender idea, acting like it hasn't been around FOR LITERAL CENTURIES. People like indigenous groups of America, India, and Filipino All had their own concept of gender similar to the LGBTQ+ in the time of pre colonization. The Idea of the entire gender binary is solely based off of European colonizer's idea of what gender should be like and influenced that on a lot of other people. GENDER IS AN INTERNAL FEELING OF ONESELF. it isn't a label that you just put on yourself based on what you like and how you dress. Or how you look like biologically.

@@katvtay I've seen some argue that trans ultimately means to transition, but not necessarily to be man or woman; just transition period, which would include non-binary.
It's a fair enough point I guess, but the problem I had with it was that people often referred to themselves as 'non-binary trans' which makes no sense if being non-binary means being trans. It's like if I called myself woman woman.

I think the problem with the term non-binary is that it doesn't have an official and clear definition, thus people are appropriating it and applying to it their personal feelings. For example, some people seem to think that "non-binary" = "I don't care about society's expectations of my gender", thus creating the "non-binary lesbian" archetype.
In any case, I agree with Blaire that non-binary shouldn't be considered trans. Typically the argument that is used to support that it should is that the original definition of trans is "a person whose gender is different than what they were assigned at birth", therefore claiming that this definition was meant to include non-binary as well. However, what these people miss is that when the term transgender became was created non-binar-ism wasn't a thing. At least non something that was widely known or had a term for it, so it arbitrary to conclude that the term was created with non-binary people in mind too. Not to mention that medically speaking these 2 are vastly different (but a lot of non-binary people like to shrug this off as "transmedicalism")

Honestly, it’s kinda an insult to those emo kids (not actually offended or anything, but hear me out). Those emo kids tend to retain some of that “emo”ness. Their music tastes evolve from the emo music while retaining some of the emo stuff too. And like, idk a lot of emo kids had depression or shit like that and that stuff gets better, but I feel like it’s not truly gone. And emo kids definitely look back and laugh like “what the FUCK was I doing wearing all those bracelets/dumb belts/all black/THICK ASS eyeliner?” but it’s not like you completely lose all that whereas a few years from now the non binaries will be like “yeah I’m just a woman/man, idk wtf that non binary shit was about” and really won’t hold onto anything.

They called me a tom-boy when I was little because I liked to climb trees, play with cars, get dirty, etc. I was still a girl, and there was nothing wrong with that. I loved that I could do all those things and still be ultra feminine and dress to the 9's when I wanted to. What I did, and liked, and believed, had absolutely nothing to do with my gender. Nor should it. That's called equality, I thought that's what we wanted. Gender dysphoria is an observable medical issue. Liking to wear dresses and grow a beard at the same time is just free expression. We shouldn't need a new word for that, it should just be okay to be yourself.

exactly, i grew up in a very masculine society, girls didn't even ride bikes after turning 10, and i liked dressing like a boy, because it meant more freedom, more fun outside, i was called a tomboy and was fine with it, i still had barbie and dresses and asked my mom to do my makeup for special occasions, then i grew up to be a strong woman and make my voice heard as so, being a boy wasn't about gender to me, it was only because my society gave them more rights than me

There is a difference between gender expression and gender identity
I identify as non-binary because a part of me still identifies as male while a part of me has a distinct identity that is not male, but rather, aligns with femininity. I desired to transition because I felt that it was necessary to appease that part of me that aligns with femininity, and I have never regret transitioning. For me, it wasn't about breaking or going against the gender binary. It was just because my experience of myself didn't clearly fall within the male or female binary.

People assume I'm 100% gay or transgender for being feminine, I'm neither. I'm just a feminine male who likes guys (for the most part) and girls (sometimes). I don't know. My gender is easy to know but my sexuality is based on the kinsey scale.
