Once Upon a Time on the Colorado & Midland?

- I've mentioned before that the Colorado & Midland has been a huge inspiration and was really THE inspiration for the OC&RG. It has been a goal of mine to bring a particular scene to life from the past. Several photos were taken of Basalt, Colorado, during the final days of the C&M around 1920 when the railroad was in its death throes. One photo in particular has been the primary tool for the design of my town of Frying Pan... I'll never get it exact because I just didn't have enough room, but I'm close. This won't be the last time I attempt this, I have lots of railroad to build and Frying Pan will see changes before it's complete but I can see in my minds eye what it will look like in the future without mock-ups and with scenery!!
In the Word of the OC&RG, the Denver & Rio Grande took over ownership of the C&M and plans to make it a standard gauge line fell through and was instead built as a 3' narrow gauge.

Aside from sharing this video for fun and overall entertainment, it also allows me to study the scene over time. What is very apparent to me after watching a few times is how oversized the engine house is. That will need to be fixed. I think it is designed for standard gauge locos, and really dominates the scene with its size. The machine shop will need to be shorted by five or ten feet so it doesn't obstruct the view to the station nearly as bad.
That's a great beginning and a faithful reproduction of a vintage photograph. Well done. Thank you for a beautiful video.
Thanks!
You're welcome.
Amazing! You are definitely capturing the scene 👍🤠👍
Thanks Randy!
Really looking great, Dennis! That coal dock really sets the scene!
Thanks Paul!
Thanks! I’m looking forward to being back on too. Just got back yesterday 😃
So enjoyable and relaxing watching your video while the snow here keeps coming down. Thank you for making your progress all viewable on UA-cam!
Thanks Robert! Stay warm!!!
Looking great there Dennis 👍🏼😃
Thanks Bill! Can't wait to have you back on Saturdays!!
That was fun! I really enjoyed the video. That's going to be a good looking tree.
lol, one of many on a long list of thing yet to do!
You're doing a great job Dennis. The b&w video is cool too.
Thanks John!
Looking Good Dennis. Looks like you used your Way-Back machine to make a movie of the past. Great Job.
That was the idea! Thanks Gerald!!
Nice relaxing video. I have done some videos and still shots of my layout and the camera always seems to call attention to things I never really noticed before. Just another project to add to the list 😊
Yes sir, the camera doesn't lie so they say.
Love it, nice B&W video.
Thanks Lynn!!
Thanks
You are most welcome! 😉
Dennis, that was a Nice, Happy, Relaxing video🤗 (the Campfire Song song will do it every time). And I loved that just-in-time move circa 1:45+ at the crossover! 🚂Lawrence
Thanks Lawrence and good eye! I also wanted the 482 to visible coming around the bend as well, but it proved to be just a little too much for me to juggle. Three throttles, camera and push buttons… maybe with another operator. 😊
"Three throttles, camera and push buttons..." What? No coffee mug? "maybe with another operator." Yes... Or Two! lol @@OtterCreek
@@locolorenzo You know there was a coffee mug near by!!
@@OtterCreek I guessed as much, but I just wanted to hear your confession, lol!🙃
WAY COOL, and I LOVE the music!!!! Is that your own, by you??? That's a fantastic recreation from an old photo. WOW!!!! Impressive!!!!
Thanks David, the music in this video is all copyright free music from UA-cam. On my Update videos and Structure build videos I use music written by a couple of friends that I produced and played on.... just the intro and outro music. I'm glad you like my efforts to recreate the town of Basalt. It's been a goal of mine for many years, it's coming together slowly!
Nice video…yeah, know what you mean…have made changes based on photos I’ve taken of scenes (did it this morning)
Photos and video are wonderful tools for scene development. Thanks for dropping by Anthony!!
