Just ordered one for my daughter, who is turning 16 in September. Why pay $15k for a used vehicle with 30k miles when you can buy this and get 60k mile / 5 year bumper to bumper and 100k / 10 year powertrain warranties too? No-brainer.
same boat, although I’m not 16…I just turned 37 and this will be my first car (don’t laugh 😂). My mind is a little blown by how expensive used cars are at the moment. This looks like a great option for zipping around.
Hey, this is the exact Rio I bought about a month ago! 2023 Rio S Hatchback Silver with Technology package. Driven about 600 miles so far, really like it! Smooth ride, nice features, push button start, alloy wheels, LED headlights, etc. Great gas mileage too, my freeway mileage for shorter city trips is averaging 45-50mpg! Haven't taken a longer road trip yet, but I bet the gas mileage would be well over 50mpg. Pretty good for an all gas vehicle. I recommend the Rio!
I purchased on November last year a 2023 Rio S sedan 4 doors with the technology package and I am very delighted and amazed of the performance from this small sedan. The gas mileage is better than the one rated by Kia.Mine now with 1800 miles is making 37 to 38 mpg in the city at 45 mph my normal speed and between 42 and 45 mpg at 70 to 75 mph which is my normal cruise speed.Aceleration from 0 to 60 mph was read with my watch at just 8 seconds,pretty fast for a CVT transmission.
Why are economical and simple vehicles considered "entry level"? Some of us don't need a car with all the extra tech and BS and just want something that runs and is reliable. Americans have a problem with feeling like they need all this extra crap that doesn't really make a difference when you're actually out there driving. I own a Kia Rio 2021 hatchback and love the features and hauling capacity. I don't need push button and auto-everything..manual controls are best and easier to fix!
Well you just answered your own question. Because they dont have all the extra features. It doesnt make them worse, just "starting point" in the lineup or "entry level". Thanks for watching!

The 2011 Kia Rio5 in red/orange is my first car, and it's a blast to drive! Needed a small car I could fit my friends in for trips. After a trip to the shop to fix a misfire, the thing runs perfectly, impressive power for the size. Great gas mileage. I love my Rio

@@MattTheCarguy no Mitsubishi in Tulsa area. Looked at a Corolla base. Nice car. $23,900. They would only give me 36k for my trade! I went to Kia, bought my S for $17.6k. They gave me $41.6k for my trade. I down sized from a Dodge Challenger Shaker due to recession. Could not be happier with Kia S and the money I save on car, gas, insurance. And if it breaks it’s under warranty!! My top of the line Shaker only had WIRED apple car play.
I like the car. I have one as a rental in Iceland right now. I wish car review guys would stop saying "do have". Just say "have". You're not telling us about anything it doesn't have, so just say "we have a technology package".

That kind of plastic scratches pretty easily so you have to be careful as you climb in and out of the vehicle especially if have anything in your hands.

Its not an SUV so the fround clearance is 5.5 inches. For comparison Toyota Corolla is at 5.1 so very much in line with the segment. No issues going over speed bumps unless of course you are going too fast.
@@robertbruceyoung10 Yes! Blizzack are great on this and the stability control system is really good! You press it down and the system allow max power and no shutting down, just what's needed, you can garther speed on a uphill without trouble! I got 9 years of winter driving on it!
I'm thinking of buying this car soon (except sedan) as a college student having to commtue 60 miles one way possibly 5 days per week starting in September. Seems like an excellent car for the money! The technology package seems like it's going to make me not really miss much from more expensive options. It also looks fun ENOUGH to drive for a few years during school. I think it's between either this or an Elantra for me. One question though: How loud is the inside of the car while driving and how is the speaker system?
Thanks for watching. Definitely great starter car that won't break the budget. As far as how noisy is it, I would say it is average. I did not hear any excessive road, tire or wind noises. As far as the speakers I only listened to them for a very short time and not very loud so to me it sounded ok.
I'd drive both of them. Also, this is last yr for Rio so not sure if sales suck or just too many models on market gotta drop one. Thats something to consider considering parts in future for Rio. I'd drive both & see which you feel better in. Don't let my comment deter you from Rio as parts have to stay in sock for minimum of 5yrs+ as per warranty sack by law.

Civic is a great vehicle, but Kia came a long way from when they started. Plus you have the 10 year 100K miles warranty. Buying a used car is a gamble as you don't know who owned it or how they drove it.
I agree with Matt. Get a new Kia & maintain her. PLUS! if the car is a lemon or gives recalls issues you're entitled to a free rental till they fix your car! 2019 Civic burns oil from oil dislusion issue! DO NOT GET 2016-2019 civic ever! 20+ they sorta fixed this issue!!!!! please hope you didnt buy a civic of those yrs
How are you wirelessly connecting to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay? I have a 2023 Kia K5 EX, a vehicle that costs twice what this vehicle costs, and to my knowledge I cannot wireless connect to Apple CarPlay 😮
With Kia and Hyundai base models with smaller screens have wireless apple car play and android auto but the more expensive larger screens have only wired connections. Go figure!
@@lrich8181 only on the small screen as far as car play and android auto. You can connect your phone with Bluetooth for audio for music and calls on both.
GDI do not seems to be garbage on the 1.6, mine is still clean and running as good as new at 177 000 km with regular maintenance, i was worried about it before but it seems to be ok!

I still drive my old 2012 Rio with the GDI 138 HP - 123 Torque 6 speed auto and it never failed, doesn't need 5 oil changes a year and is not clogged with soot. 138 HP makes all the difference too. It pulls and pushes alright. Merging in city traffic or on the highway, no problem. Just press the pedal. I'm not joking. The best trouble free car I ever had. Given it has only 60,000 miles with two brakes jobs, one new battery and one UVO radio changed, I say it's very reliable. But when they changed the motor to a 121 HP and CVT, I knew this would be my last Rio.

Its sad that another sub compact vehicle is dropping off. It will most likely be replaced by K3 which would be more expensive and as far as i know only available as sedan.
After all the horrible things I have seen on the news about Hyundai's and Kia's, and the unbelievable troubles my father-in-law and brother-in-law had with their new 2018 Hyundai's I wouldn't try to steal one if I was a car thief.
I know plenty of people who own Hyundai and Kias and are happy including my sister on law and my mother in law both own Tucsons. One has well over 150k and still runs strong
These entry vehicles are great first vehicles, but it's just the price that's not great. Post COVID has ruined these prices, and so many people have accepted this reality. Not me lol, car prices are on a downward trend, and just you wait till Trump is in office. I'm a college student and it's near impossible for me to afford anything making min wage, I'm just lucky to have parents that still support me.
Car prices went up quite a bit. My first job at car dealership was in 1998. Base Civic was $9997. It takes a lit more than who is at the helm for prices to drop. Cost of materials, transport, taxes, tarifs, wages are among many other factors. If they drop it will not be by much. Of course I am talking about MSRP not the markups

Mirage with its 78hp cant get out of its own way. I would go for Rio out of the two. There is also Nissan Versa in the price range.
