    I've been handling my babies since day one. Socialization is KEY! Mama loves when I take them out. I think she considers me the babysitter and kisses me all over than runs off to do her ratty things.

    Thanks for your videos! I’m doing ASF research getting ready to start my own colonies so this is super helpful. As for the 1 male vs 2 males question, the primary reason I hear from folks who advocate for a 2 male arrangement is so the colony can continue to function if one of the males were to die. I’ve heard that you can’t just sub in another adult male from outside the colony if your breeder male dies. Have you had a breeder male die unexpectedly in your 1-male colonies? What do you do when that happens?

      Yes it has happened if you have babies in.the colony or a pregnant female then just let a male grow up from the babies and take over the role of breeder male or ive had great luck in adding babies to existing colonies without issues and last resort there is a method that works most of the time where you put the new adult male into the colony separated buy a wire mesh so they get used to each other but cant fight then after a period of time remove the barrier and usally they accept him so there are a few ways to accomplish it but all those methods will slow down your breeding operations for a little bit ive done 2 males many times but ive always had better productivity with just 1

    Great video, thanks so much! My daughter thinks they are too cute to be just feeders and so wants a few to be pets lol.. So will try the bonding to see if they work well as pets. So far they are bred to be feeders but we shall see. Thanks so much for your advise!

    I have a question kevin, so im getting asf i have about 10 snakes, and i just watched your newest videos im getting 8 rat breeding from reptile basics they are 28 L by 12W i was told i can house 4,1 in this size but my question is shud i purchase pregnant females or shud i just buy new fresh colonies of younger wat wud you reccomend i knw that 8 tubs is alot but i plan on selling to other ppl...SO WAT WUD YOU RECOMMEND SHUD I GET PREGNANT FEMALES OR SHUD I GET A MIX.....N IF FEMALES ARE PREGNANT CAN THEY STAY WITH THERE COLONY WHEN THEY HAVE BABIES???

    • @PACCOONY
      @PACCOONY  3 роки тому +1

      I would get a mix if possible that way u have a jump start on your project the pregnant females you may be less likely to know how old they are so u can get a few of those then get the others to build the colonys u want

      @@PACCOONY I have 18 ball pythons. How many colonies would you start with and at what male to female ratio?

    • @PACCOONY
      @PACCOONY  3 роки тому +1

      @@laurahernandez2351 i would start with 3. 1.5 colonies and see what your producing and ajust from there your biggest issues will be the time it takes from building the colonies till you have feeder size asf getting through all the ups and downs that sometimes go with breeding asf litters getting eaten or the time it takes to get from a baby asf to adult feeder

      @@PACCOONY thank you. I'm willing to put in the time it takes to get it started. Right now most of my snakes are eating frozen that I order , but I have a couple that will not eat frozen at all. I have been going to the pet store once a week to get a couple feeder mice. Between ordering the frozen and buying the live feeders it gets expensive. That's why I wanted to breed the ASFs. Your videos are awesome. Thank you for all the info and I'll look forward to more videos 😊.

    Thanks for the videos. I breed ASF’s with pretty good success but your info is great. I’m looking to expand my colonies, I currently have 5 of them all 1.4. What would you recommend for a rack and also tubs they can’t chew out of? I currently have the breeding cages.

    • @PACCOONY
      @PACCOONY  3 роки тому +1

      Well u can use a rack made from metal bins like they use for catering that rack is pretty much asf proof i use the cement tub style but provided wheels and tubes so mine still never discovered chewing but if they do ill have to change up

    I just started my colonies the other day at 1.3 and then after watching your videos I took your advice and added 4 more females to each colony because like you said you can go smaller in a day but takes months to go bigger. I had to drive 4.5 hours each way but it was worth it to get breeder size. Thanks for the advice. Do you think I would have just as much production in a 1.10 colony compared to two 1.5's ?

    • @PACCOONY
      @PACCOONY  3 роки тому

      Great to hear and it will be close enough producing be a tad slower but what i like is it seams more spaced out instead of 1 week u have 100 babies next week 10 seams like each week you have a decent amount

    My first litter just opened their eyes at 2 weeks and 1-3 days. Isn't that a bit early to wean? They still seem to drink milk.

    • @PACCOONY

      You can leave them in for a while just saying if room is an issue u can remove them if needed but leaving them in is the safer move
