That was the most unhinged parade/festival I've seen...and I've been to a lot of weird events! Definitely putting this one on my list! Like a lot of West Virginians, I have extended family in the Detroit area who went up in the 50s/60s to work in the auto industry.
Carpetbagger, you always find the most interesting festivals that I have not heard of before. Love the costumes and the story behind this one. The people are friendly and some recognized you. An exciting festival for sure ty for sharing.
Glad to see you finally made it! My sister was sick, so I didn't get to go this year. 🙁 Hope you enjoyed it. If no has told you, that statue on the T-shirt is called the spirit of Detroit.
That was fun! Very unusual. The Masonic building was very fancy. I'll bet back in Detroit's hey day a lot of the management in the auto industry were Masons, and because they were very wealthy they built such a grand place.
Thank you Carpetbagger for another great adventure. You never fail to entertain us, I enjoyed the festivities. Where to next?? I always look forward to your video's Jacob & get to go places I never would get to go.
Hi Jacob 👋🏽. please be careful and safe out there. Detroit is a very Dangerous place. I live very close to Detroit and IF I don't have to go there I don't ‼️
It's a relatively young festival. Starting sometime in the 80's by a couple of students at Wayne State University. Word was a bit slow to spread and Covid stalled it, but it's back and it's steadily growing. Who knows, maybe it'll reach the popularity of the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise in the next few years. 😉😈👹
I live by the Anatomy of Death Museum so I'm not far from Detroit. I was really looking forward to go to this festival on Sunday so I could see this and meet you but unfortunately I had a different event to go so I was bummed. This was really cool to see though! I didn't even know about this festival until you so thank you! Hopefully I'll get to meet you next time!
Jacob, I love the video of my home city of Detroit. Wayne State University is a great university. My Mom got her special education degree from Wayne. If you ever want to see the Spirit of Detroit statue, it's in front of the Coleman A Young Municipal Center at 2 Woodward in downtown Detroit.
I'm a huge White Stripes fan myself. I hope to make a trip to a Third Man Records one of these days. I just heard about the Nain Rouge last year from John E.L. Tenney a very interesting paranormal investigator and lecturer. I'm betting he's in the crowd here somewhere. Thanks for taking us along. I wish I could travel and participate in unusual events so it's always fun to follow your excursions and adventures. Stay safe out there. 🗺️
That looks like an incredible party. I've never heard of the Nain Rouge before, but it isn't difficult to believe that Detroit has been cursed. I suggest you look up hell night in Detroit. Also, it warms my heart to see somebody making music on vinyl the way nature intended.
When you're home you could go see movies with Jenny Penny and give reviews at home- Oooo maybe even restaurants. Make your where you live be the place you go to when you're home
Detroit, Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, nearly all of The Tri-country area is very LBGTQ friendly as well as the larger cities throughout the State. There are a few pockets of Hostility around, but they just don't like visitors at all.
@@Nightbat1321 The UP doesn't care much for visitor's of any kind once the Tourist season is over. God help you if they think your a real estate developer or a government agent. I guess I can't fault them for not wanting all of the beautiful woods and lakefront properties being sold off to snobby rich people, but I think the weather that far North is it's own deterrent. UP winter's tend to be truely brutal and only the heartiest of people can stand to live there year round. I would say the most dangerous place to go in Michigan for LTBGQ is currently Holton Township, word is that place is a breeding ground for the extremist.
As a Michigan Native. I am Proud to see you visiting my Beautiful state that gave the world Great people like Magic Johnson, Alice Cooper, Tom Selick, Burt Reynolds, Bruce Campbell and Ernie Hudson
Interesting video 📹 never heard of this. Thank you for showing us something I never heard of or seen. Always learning new things 😮 thanks for taking us on your journeys.
Wow! That was interesting! I'm a Detroiter and never heard of that festival! Some fun facts, Ryan Gosling directed a movie at the Masonic Temple called Lost River. Also, Jack White saved the Masonic Temple by paying off their back taxes. His mother also worked there when he was a child. It's supposedly haunted and they do haunted tours there, as well!👻
We used to go to Rock concerts at the Masonic Temple back in the ,1970's!! STILL an awesome building!! I am from Detroit, lived in and around her for my entire 66 yr existence n NEVER heard of this ridiculous character!!! I guess we had REAL causes that changed history when I bwas in gatherings n demonstrations in my days!!!
The gentleman with the Cadillac was a Fraud sign was John E. L. Tenney - a great paranormal researcher and occultist! Highly recommend checking out his work - he also has a fun podcast - Whats Up Weirdo!
That looks like so much fun. The last time we were in that Masonic Temple was back in 2012 at Theater Bizarre. I have such fond memories of performing sideshow in that ballroom.
Morning Jacob 😊🌞🤓📸 been around a long time watcher of your videos started in 2015 that's the year I subscribed to your channel. I been on board ever since. Thanks for sharing this today in Michigan trip, never been to Michigan.
Hi J, I wanted to let you know that the location that you are at on I-94 when your video begins is where I live, I'm about a quarter of a mile to the right in Allen Park. Lol I used to play around that big tire when I was a kid. It was surrounded by thick woods & had lots of bicycle trails around there, Tons of Fun...😊
The Uniroyal tire operated as a Ferris Wheel at the '64 New York World's Fair. Jacob would've loved to have ridden it (if they allowed single riders).😊
Wayne State University - I worked there in the 1970's n early 1980's in the Labor Relations Department located in an old mansion on Woodward Ave that was donated to the University. I was the secretary to the director.
So the demon cursed the town because a guy kicked it right? So you as an individual can either celebrate it and offer it festivities and cake on your head, or try to get it to kick rocks and leave you alone. It makes sense that people would chose different tactics.😅
Heyyy glad you were able to make it out to Detroit. We do have some fun festivals around here. Like any big city there are pros and cons and shady areas but sadly gets a bad rap still. The statue on the shirt you saw is the Spirit of Detroit, check it out next time you're in the area. Come haunt season you should check out Eloise Asylum in nearby Westland, I hear nothing but high praises about it.
Jacob, sir, bro…i have a suggestion for warmer weather only as it’s seasonal. In NJ..Keansburg Amusement Park. Dear lord please visit there. Hell, i will take you on a tour if needed. It sits immediately south of NY Harbor and is as wonderfully low rent as you can ever imagine.
Jacob you are a good storyteller. You could record audiobooks, if you ever need a new career😊What a fun idea!. Any idea for a parade is fun! I wish I was there😊
There is a great Earth Parade on Earth day in Concord, MA. It is a lot of fun with an art show and floating little boats in the river. Look up Muskataquird at Emerson Arts
Oh man! I was there. You had just done a cameo for my birthday the day before! Definitely one of the highlights of my birthday!
Happy to do it!
I love you jacob

Robert M. Nelson is Detroit's own comedic genius! He hosts, emcees, wanders in parades, and is up for anything.
Carpetbagger, you always find the most interesting festivals that I have not heard of before. Love the costumes and the story behind this one. The people are friendly and some recognized you. An exciting festival for sure ty for sharing.
Had a great time
Seeing the demon mask, we really need a Carpetbagger mask for Etsy merch.
Styled after that puppet he got. It's perfect
@@CC-qx7hk I’d like one that matches his pin he sells on Etsy

Hi Jacob 👋🏽. please be careful and safe out there. Detroit is a very Dangerous place. I live very close to Detroit and IF I don't have to go there I don't ‼️
I live up north in Cadillac
The Bees dog should’ve been a “Bee-gle”
It's great to see how much this event has grown in 13 years! Great video Jake
The spirit of Detroit and another awesome video as always Jacob keep up the awesome work and be safe out there
I lived in Detroit for 25 years and never heard of this demon fest!!😸👀

Born and bred in the D but left in '85 so I missed the birth of this festival. Husband went to Wayne St.
The Masonic lodge building looks like the building from the original Ghostbusters movie!

This was like The Gong Show without the gong
I live here near Detroit and never heard of this event. Strange how you find such odd events .. good job Jacob ..❤
I never heard of the festivities that you are talking about and I lived in Detroit 🤷🏽
I'm so envious that I've never been to this, even though I've lived there.

Ah! Thank you

I honestly was a little concerned when he ate that cake but the undisclosed ingredient seemed to help him have a good time lol.
A festival to drive out the demon that they are also glorifying. Makes sense.
