  • It's time to bust my stash! 👊🏻🧶 Can I make clothes from my stash ONLY? 🧵✂️
From March 2024 to March 2025, I'm embarking on a low-buy year, focusing on sewing, knitting, and crocheting with what I already have.
Recently, I uncovered an infestation of cloth moths and carpet beetles in my stash! 😱 This discovery triggered a thorough cleaning spree. As I went through every piece of fabric and skein of yarn, I realized I had more than enough materials to fuel my creativity for years to come. Therefore I'm pledging to utilize what's already in my possession.

This year, I made a similar resolution to buy nothing new, organize my huge stash (60 years' worth, plus my mother's 70 year old UFO's 😳), give away things I have no plan for, and finish my own UFOs.
Looking forward to seeing your low-buy projects, and will feel inspired by your progress !

That's awesome! 🤩 It's always motivating to hear about others on similar journeys. Let's support each other in sticking to our goals finishing our UFOs and using up our stash! 👏🏻

I know I can sew from my stash for years. That's why I bought and kept it. I add to that stash when I find high quality fabric that I can afford. It appears that we may not have any fabric shops in our part of the country in the future. The high prices of fabric, by the yard, has stopped many of us from buying. If no one is buying, the shops may go out of business.

That is one of my concerns (fabrics shops going out of business), but I try to support the local fabrics stores when I can. I plan to do so also during this challenge as well, just not for new projects for the time being.

The last 2 years I have been doing a no-buy for fabrics, as my living space is very small. The first year however I had a difficult time sticking to it and I still bought fabric on several occasions. I guess I made my rule too strict? The second year I allowed myself 1 fabric for my birthday and 1 fabric for Christmas, which worked. This year I thought of giving myself a limit of 3 fabrics, as my current smaller stash (of mostly scraps) is not very inspiring anymore, however I am not sure what I will do. I am looking forward to seeing some low-consumerist sewing content! It's so much more creative than going out and buying new, and I always find it very inspiring.

Thank you for sharing your approach! I like the idea of limiting fabric buying to a certain number.
I think for the next 6 months I will be more strict to get myself started - but maybe after that I might allow myself a limited number of fabrics like you. When it comes to yarn however I am not allowed that loophole 😂

Love the idea of using scraps more! I always keep them thinking maybe at least I could cut it all up and use as stuffing, but if you find good patterns or uses I think I speak for many when I say, please share!

I will do! I have filmed the whole process making the shorts I shared a snippet of in the video. I just need to edit the video. 😅 I also have lots of scraps I saved for stuffing I finally will use for a project. 😏 Then we will see what else I come up with this year… 😉

I'm gonna take that challenge with you. I have more fabrics and clothes to salvage or upcycle then one can imagine. I don't have much spare time, but I've been wanting to make more time to sew. So, we will see what happens! Thank you
