We’ve had the whale tail since the 80s, now the duck tail. Aquatic mammals are secret petrolheads. Clearly they don’t believe in climate change either.
I still say the newer M3 and M4 models are basically GT cars now. Where as the M2 models are more sport-coupe oriented. As the owner of the original M2, it would feel a little weird slinging the newest M3 or M4 models around mountain roads that we have outside of Denver. I run Sport Cup 2 tires on my M2 and it's a joy to hustle around on those same roads.
@@teabagtowers3823 ofcourse, the only thing I found it to be missing was sound. Great review. Bmw are on a roll right now. My favourite recent M car remains the M2 CS however. Just love the way it looks even if the M4 is dynamically superior.
Wow, Joe. I can't get my head around how you put these together now. The quality is outstanding and better than most who have a whole team supporting them. Really engaging review too. Super job mate ;-)
A remarkably good review 👍, despite the short time allocated by BMW. Nothing new here, this channel is consistently brilliant 👏. I can't wait to see a trackday review, even without a comparison with a Porsche GT3. Who cares about the GT3 anyway when you have an M4 CSL?😉
We all know BMW underrates their engines, the M3 comp makes like 500 to the wheels not the crank, knowing the tuning potential of the S58 I wouldn’t be surprised if the CSL is closer to 600 to the wheels. Bootmod3 recently posted a dyno of an S58 making 750 at the wheels with just downpipes and an e85 tune…
Amazing work Joe. Great video as always. Really love how you can compare cars based on your experience. Looking forward to a video with the m4 CSL on track! 😃
Great review Joe I've been waiting for you to do this one. I was lucky enough to look up close and sit in the bucket seat of this car at Goodwood and you could just tell that you were in a very special BMW product. You've captured the sound fantastically and people have to see that frozen grey to see what an amazing colour it is in the flesh. If I had the money I'd have this over a 911 or anything at that price point it is a very very special car and your review confirms that cheers.
Epic car! A lot of money, yes, but for those lucky people who have the money, why not? It'll likely hold its value at least, if not rise in the long term any way. By all accounts and Joe's review here, it's also a more usable daily the otherwise brilliant 911 GT3. Quality video as always Joe! 👍
@@R03333 Like I said, the CSL is a much better daily than the GT3. GT3 is brilliant on track and quiet & smooth deserted roads (if you can find them), but too harsh and noisy for day in, day out driving.

@@JoeAchilles1 I just did Chicago to Milwaukee and back (3 hrs)and the seats were perfect. I did change the angle drastically as the original setting was, as you said, very painful. Night and day… just FYI
Love your content Joe, well done. Think you lost your way a bit with your comparison to the 992 GT3. You simply can't compare a thoroughbred sports car with a GT car which carries a 200kg handicap. We know the the CSL is over 20 seconds slower around the green hell and little doubt that there's very few tracks that the CSL will post even similar times to the GT3. Horses for courses as they say.

Keeping in mind that this is a track oriented type vehicle Maybe the steering wheel there for the driver who has those driver gloves on and the girth is needed.
I hope the instrument cluster screens don’t scratch as easily as the F87 one’s. Those are a nightmare to maintain. I believe looking at them is enough to scratch them 😆
I disagree....it looks horrendous if you ask me.....terrible colour....awful wheels .....and as for that silly stripe .....what were bmw thinking 🤔 Not worth the money.....you can buy an m4 xdrive for a fraction of the money and it will outperform it in every way
I can't lie, I wish they would've gone further with the hardcoreness of the CSL, especially with it being the first CSL since the legendary E46. Realistically, no one is failing this or taking it to the shops with such limited production, so why not go all out?Imagine a stripped out G82 that weighs 1400-1500 kilos!
Fantastic overview as always Joe. Who needs Top Gear or 5th Gear when you have Joe Achilles!! Brilliant overview of an amazing car, I look on with envy :)
Hi Joe, quick question mate. As a weekend toy and occasional track car would you recommend the F80 M3 CS or the G80 M3 RWD? I saw how much you loved the M3 CS a few years ago but you also love the G80. Just wondering what you would genuinely choose out of the two. Thanks, Rich
Don’t think this is in the same league as a GT3 RS. The engine is turbo and won’t rival the 4.0 boxer in the GT3, and it doesn’t rev to 9,000 either. It’s a brute this CSL, whereas the Porsche is a surgical instrument. A lot of money for only little bit more (unless you are going on track with it). I’m a BMW fan (own one and an i4 on order) but what this is best for is, sadly, investment

No surprise there. The 992 GT3 is much the smaller car and 200 kg lighter. That's a massive difference for track performance.
