I see a big bottleneck there between the CPU and GPU, I'm planning to buy a Lenovo m700 with the i7 6700 with 16gb of ram for just only 279€ (290$) (2 weeks ago came with 8gb of ram at the same price so it's a really good purchase), it is cheaper than this one, I have less USB ports but at least came with most of this upgrades by default. The GPU that I'm going to install will be the AMD Radeon RX 6400, it's more powerful than the GPU showed in the video and probably It won't make a big bottleneck
One thing about the RX 6400 is that it supports PCIe gen 4.0 while the Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 Motherboard is PCIe 3.0. For this reason you may be better off using a GTX 1650. But, either way, hope it went well. This AMD GPU in this video is definitely not the best choice, but it's what I had on hand at the time. I have since tested out a GTX 1650, 1050 Ti, and 1050. I built a SFF PC with a RX 6400 and Ryzen 5 4500.
Hi I need some advice . I have the m900 i7 6700. I do some music on it . The vst libraries can be 20gb and more and take some processing power . What would be the best upgrade option idea . It has a regular 500gb SSD and I think 32gb ram many thanks
If you can find a GTX 1650 low profile for a decent price, that would be the best match. Next one down would be the GTX 1050 Ti, but honestly go for the 1650 if you can. Remember that this motherboard supports PCIe 3.0 speeds, so buying a card like the RX 6400 with 4.0 speeds may not be the best use of money.
@@setterkim4050 You could use that, you would just need to migrate the system from the SFF tower case into a larger case, get a new power supply suitable for the GTX 1080, then purchase the cable adapter for the power supply connector to the motherboard. I have a question I bough this as a gaming pc that’s has a i5 6500 gtx 1650, basically I don’t like the design can I buy a gamin pc case and switch everything too a new gaming pc case?
You can, and I have a couple of times. You will need to purchase a cable adapter for the ATX power supply to connect to the small 6-pin connection on the Lenovo motherboard. This comes with one caveat: The power supply fan will never shut off (even with the pc powered down) unless you flip the switch on the PSU or unplug. In this way, it acts like a jumper. Can be found here: www.moddiy.com/ Might I also suggest an upgrade to i7-6700.
Hey haiste, do you think using an SSD, 16 GB of ram... the low profile rx 6400 will work well in this rig? It only consumes 53w and performs three times as well. My psu is 210w but I have seen people using a nvidia quadro k1200 which consumes 45w and works very well, so I was wondering if the rx 6400 could also work, thanks for the video I would greatly appreciate if you solve my doubt.
You can run the RX6400 and probably be just fine. Just note that the M900 is PCIe Gen 3 while the RX6400 is PCIe Gen4. It will still run fine, but you may be better off getting a low profile GTX 1650 if you can find one for a better deal. I did a power test with the same combo here: ua-cam.com/video/PTVBP0kVo98/v-deo.htmlsi=R3Xmz2niX6zZd5Ik
The truth is that even with the limitation of pcie 3.0 the rx6400 performs much better in games than gtx 1650, besides consuming less watts, so it makes me curious that you say that the nvidia card is much better option. In any case you are the expert, I guess a gtx 1650 would not be bad for me, thank you very much!
@@ruihill7849True, the RX6400 has less power draw. You will probably find it's cheaper than the GTX 1650 low profile. If you check out Techpowerup (for any graphics card, for reference) you'll see a section marked "relative performance." Check out the RX6400 page here: www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/radeon-rx-6400.c3813
Look for "low profile" graphics cards. Something like a GT 1030, GTX 1050 (ti), GTX 1650. AMD Radeon RX 550. Search for Low Profile cards. Feel free to link me to anything you are looking at for a second opinion.
Hey Haiste. Back to ask another question. I noticed they make 3050 and 4060 LPs now and am in the budget to get either for my M900 SFF. Just wanted to ask if the 4060 wouldn't be compatible for any reason. Running an i7-6700 and 32 GB of ram with stock PSU.
The RTX 4060 Low Profile has a recommended 300W PSU and, in models I have seen, require a 6-pin power connecter. An RTX 3050 would run fine, though one thing to note is that the M900 motherboard will be limited to PCIe 3.0 speeds, while the 3050 will have PCIe 4.0 capability. This may not make much of a difference in this use case, though. Do you have the 210W PSU?
@HaisteComputerRepair Yea it's 210. That's why I am leaning toward the 3050, just wanted to see if the 4060 was compatible without any further upgrading. I'm expecting some bottlenecking from the PCI difference, but not too worried about it. Thanks again, always a great help
@HaisteComputerRepair Yo. Just wanted to give you an update that I installed the 3050 LP. It was about half an inch too long, so I had to remove the cage that holds the disk drive and SSD. Based on measurements, I can saw off the obstructing corner of the cage and still fit the caddy for the SSD. Will let you know how that goes. But other than that, the card works flawlessly. It's quiet, stays cool, and performs exactly as I need it to. Just wanna say thanks again. Your channel helped me out a great deal.
I have this PC and just want to add a GeForce GT 1030, will the 210w psu be enough for this card? Note that I have not added anything other than the card. The ram, hard drive and everything else is as the computer comes.
@@HaisteComputerRepair Thanks for answering my friend, I was afraid that it would not be enough because I do not change the HDD for a ssd. However I did remove the dvd drive, I hope it makes up for it a bit. Anyway, thank you very much for the video!
I'm wondering if the rx 550 will work for this pc. I'm deciding between rx 550 and gt 1030. rx 550 is cheaper and better than gt 1030 but has a tdp of 50 watts which might cause problems with the built-in power supply.
It looks like both the 2GB and 4GB variant of the low profile RX 550 has that TDP of 50W, with a suggested power supply of 250W. Unfortunately the M900 PSU is 210W (at least the 20+ I have worked on). The power connecter is only 10 Pin, so not so easy to swap out with another PSU. You can use cable adapters, but with the caveat of a different, or ATX, power supply fan running at all times unless the PC is completely shut off. However, you might be totally fine with the 210W PSU. I will be testing this out soon with a GTX 1650 and i7-6700 in a M900 with the 210W PSU. Will definitely make a video.

Big help. I just got an m900 sff with an i7 and now am most likely going to get that same GPU.
I want buy lenovo thinkcentre 910s with i7 7700 suggest me gpu to go with
One thing about the RX 6400 is that it supports PCIe gen 4.0 while the Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 Motherboard is PCIe 3.0.

What software do you use and do you have a graphics card installed?
What’s the best used or new graphics card for this PC for a reasonable price today?
If you can find a GTX 1650 low profile for a decent price, that would be the best match. Next one down would be the GTX 1050 Ti, but honestly go for the 1650 if you can. Remember that this motherboard supports PCIe 3.0 speeds, so buying a card like the RX 6400 with 4.0 speeds may not be the best use of money.
@@HaisteComputerRepair what about the GeForce 1080 GTX?
@@setterkim4050 You could use that, you would just need to migrate the system from the SFF tower case into a larger case, get a new power supply suitable for the GTX 1080, then purchase the cable adapter for the power supply connector to the motherboard. This causes the power supply fan to continuously run unless you shut it off or unplug, though. I talk about this here: ua-cam.com/video/D_4K8QW1VbI/v-deo.htmlsi=uYhyP318cdRg409A&t=100
Why do you use the blue dim and not the green one to install the ram memories?
The blue closest to the CPU is single channel, two blue are dual channel. Go to page 78 of the manual and this shows the RAM install order. download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/m800_m900_tower_ug_en.pdf
Is the extra fan a must do?
I don't think so, but it did help with temps a little bit. It's a fun mod with spare parts.

Yep, Windows was installed on to it.
Hello need pc case recommendation for my lenovo thinkcentre m910s which has 1 ssd, 2 hdd, 12 gb ram, and nvidia 1650 gpu. Im very happy with the performance of my pc as I could play modern games and handle really corel and cad for my work but the problem is the pc case as it really is a mess because of the storage and gpu. Could you recommend a pc case to swap to or is it possible to change into any pc case to fit all of it?
First check out this portion of my video covering what you will need for a new power supply in a new case (if you are needing to power a different card or want a power supply that can match an ATX case) ua-cam.com/video/D_4K8QW1VbI/v-deo.htmlsi=j9cRgBRA_NGDzBfr&t=71

@@stahnke_as_pho What CPU do you have installed?
@@HaisteComputerRepair i7-6700
@HaisteComputerRepair Yo.
Yes it would work with no problems at all. It would be better than the AMD card I installed in this video.
@@HaisteComputerRepair Thanks for answering my friend, I was afraid that it would not be enough because I do not change the HDD for a ssd. However I did remove the dvd drive, I hope it makes up for it a bit.
Anyway, thank you very much for the video!
@@luiscolinagonzales8112 You will be fine, you don't need to remove anything. The GT 1030 has a power rating of 30W. Definitely go for the SSD.
@@HaisteComputerRepair Thanks for the response, will wait for that video!

If you want to use a full height graphics card, you will have to migrate the system into a larger PC case. Or, use PCIe extension adapters and have the GPU hanging out the side panel. It's windows 10 . The host for these libraries is cubase and kontakt player. Right now I have about 280gb free on the sdd . It performs ok generally but with the chamber strings library it challenges the CPU more it's 28gb library . I don't have a graphics card to my knowledge. I don't know really . It's basically crunching sound samples rather than visual information
Interesting, I don't have experience with that. I suppose a recommendation would be to upgrade to a new system with a new CPU for better performance. Check out the AM4 platform, it's not super expensive to invest in a B550M motherboard and a Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, which would likely be much more efficient.
