    I am 62 and switched to barefoot shoes about two years ago. I won't go back to putting my feet into constrictive shoes again and many of my minor foot issues have disappeared. This video does a great job of explaining why people wear these shoes as well as some good advice at the end on how to make the switch.

    Love this video! I started wearing barefoot shoes about 2 years ago. It took some time to adjust but I am so happy now. I used to have lower and upper back pain after walking short distances. This is completely gone and I am able to walk as long as I like now without any back pain. And my feet are much, much happier too :-) My favourite brand is "Hike Footwear" as they have a lot of stylish options :-) Nobody ever thinks that I am wearing barefoot shoes.

      Thanks for watching! I’m glad to hear you found this video informative! Transitioning to barefoot shoes is one of the best decisions I’ve made and I could really feel a big difference whenever I try to wear normal shoes again! 🦶 it’s amazing to hear how barefoot shoes have solved your lower and upper back pain! I will definitely have to check out the “Hike Footwear!” Thanks for sharing with us!

    Great informative video because you show the important stuff in a short amount of time. Correct me if you did but I do miss strength training as an essential tip. Interesting because you do show a strength(/flexibility) excersise right after, which I think is an effective way to train strength and flexibility at the same time. I mentioned to someone that my transition to barefoot shoes was instant and without pains and he asked me if I wear shoes indoors. I realized I have been walking on socks indoors all my life but didn't really think about it being good for strength like that.

      Hey Bob thank you so much for stopping by and watching! Its great to hear that you were able to transition smoothly with these shoes because I feel everybody's experience is a little different! No pain or soreness is always nice! Do you mind me asking what brand you ended up choosing? I've been trying out a few different ones of my own! And yes I agree with you even though I didn't highlight strength I do believe that continuing to focus on both flexibility and strength in your feet is crucial. Thats why I show the eccentric calf raise which is one of my favorites for strengthening calf muscles but also getting a good stretch on the ankle joint. I am currently working on a video about foot health and exercises to improve strength and flexibility which I think you will find informative! Take care!

      @@MovewithDrMike Yea sure I can tell you which brand. I'll give you my feedback as well, might be of some use to you. My first pair was the HFS from XERO. I ordered the Prio's from XERO shortly after because I was that much satisfied with them. I've exclusively worn these two pairs for the past 1.5 years. The prio's are my most comfortable shoes and the HFS is my favorite for sporty activities because it's so damn flexible and light. Do bear in mind the toebox on the HFS is less wide than some other brands like Vivobarefoot, but I have small feet in width. One flaw of the Prio's is durability though. The shoe has fallen apart in a major way. I have done a lot of atg split squats in the Prio's, an excersise where the toes flex to full rom every rep. This probably has sped up the decay of the shoe, but IMO it should be able to tolerate that. it's not a cheap shoe too. However, XERO has a pretty big warranty on their shoes, so apparantly they do believe in the quality of their product

      @@xxFR12 Thank you so much for sharing your input and feedback! This is very helpful to know and I've been wanting to try out various brands to hopefully give my feedback and reviews on future videos! The Xero HFS was definitely on my list but I ended up going with FeelGrounds. Feelgrounds have a very wide toe box which I appreciate for my feet ;) I've been wearing them for about 1 week now and I love them. I mainly train in my vivobarfoot Primus. I do agree with you though... most of the minimalist shoes are not cheap lol. here are some other brands that I will eventually look into trying based on the research I've done: Splay Athletics, Icarus, Ahimsa, Wildling, and Belenka. Thanks again for input and for stopping by to watch! It really means lot!

    Great video. I switched to barefoot shoes two years ago because my toes were always scrunched in shoes. I have long size 15 feet, but not super wide except in my toes. When I bought wide shoes, they would be sloppy through the mid foot but be comfortable in the toes. I bought a pair of Vivos, and once I got acclimated to them, I haven’t looked back. All I wear now are Vivos, Lems or Xero shoes.

    The ground at home is cold, so is it fine to wear socks? Although I notice that even socks can be restrictive. What do you suggest?

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  5 днів тому

      Thanks for taking the time to watch! I totally understand this and yes it is fine wearing socks as long as they are not too snug and still allow your toes to spread! Socks will still allow your feet to feel the ground without any extra cushion from the shoes.

    It sounds like since i often walk several miles a day in flip flops during the summers and lift weights barefoot (home gym, don't worry folks) i should be able to transition to barefoot style shoes without too many issues. Is this correct?

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  10 днів тому

      Thanks for taking the time to watch this one! Yes! The fact that you’ve been exercising and moving your body in space while being barefoot puts you at a great advantage. I don’t foresee you having very many issues but longer walks & runs can definitely feel more fatiguing on your feet in the beginning! 🦶

      Hey thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! That’s a terrific question! I would say yes if you’ve spent a great deal of time performing hobbies or activities barefoot then you will likely not encounter many transition problems! A sport like jiujitsu requires extensive amount of mobility in the ankles and in the feet and can be so beneficial for overall foot health! I did jiujitsu for about 3 years and it was a fantastic sport. I’m hoping I can sharpen up my skills again and get back out there!

    would you recommend barefoot shoes for someone that has nephropathy?

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  Рік тому

      Barefoot shoes can be beneficial for all individuals. Everyones feet are different and will respond differently. The key is to slowly transition into them to see how your feet tolerate walking with less support. And give your feet time to adapt! Given your condition it would also be good to monitor and observe for any skin changes (redness or callus development) in your feet especially if you lack any sensation. This could be another way to assess your tolerance. Hope this helps.

    Question:
    Is barefoot shoes actually good for you ? No doubt they are more "natural" but due to the way evolution works we are not designed. We have several dedign flaws. Question is if "normal" shoes, designed by smart people with many years of research and money, are worse than nothing (which is what barefoot essentially is)
    I generally do not know what to think here

    • @MovewithDrMike
      @MovewithDrMike  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for stopping by to watch. That’s a great question. The truth is “normal” shoes were designed for comfort and looks not really considering the anatomy or biomechanics of the foot. And these days barefoot shoes are being researched and there have been studies to show these benefits so it’s not like they are just a trend.
