Amazing. I’ve gotten at least a couple of these comments, and they do get to you a little bit! Glad you’re having fun with the topic. I’m sure if enough of us continue to be creative with whatever we feel like, the viewers that actually matter will only benefit.
Ignore the people who say "3D printing isn't crafting", I got into 3D printing because it is too painful to craft by hand now. If anything, it has taught me a few skills in 3D design.
Digital arts are crafting, but 3D printing don't stop you to craft old school. Both are complementary. You can get real life greebles that would be painful to 3d modeling and printing and sometimes using cardboard/foam can be faster than printing for big pieces.
Hilarious video! Funniest terrainbuilding video I have seen. 3d printing is obviously the future of crafting. I will probably never get one but I totally respect those who have and can make cool things with them. Keep up the great work Knarb and happy new year!
Saying 3d Printing isn’t crafting is like saying kit or trash bashing isn’t crafting. Taking something that’s made and modifying it (whether that be as ‘simple’ as painting it a certain way, or straight up altering the model pre or post printing) will always require the same amount of knowledge and creativity that things like scratch building require, it’s just a different type of knowledge
I consider 3D printing, “crafting”, foraging etc. all ends to a means. Some people prefer a different journey to the finished product, and that is completely okay. Some prefer traditional crafting, some supplement crafting projects with 3D printing, and others prefer to just print and paint. I personally think the way in which you present and edit your hobby journeys to be entertaining and enjoyable. You can’t please everyone so just do what you love and those that love what you do will watch and support you. Keep up the great work 👍
And people think Canadians are polite and stuff - meanwhile here's Knarb throwing next level 'polite shade' through 'Kids in the Hall' style compliance. 3D printing is totally crafting - what makes this channel (and certain others)so awesome is that they 3d print where it makes sense and use 'old school' methods as well so that the viewers always find something of 'value' (seriously, that masking tape roll for the circle idea is brilliant). There is a place for both - I would say that a whole series of videos on making something both 'caveman' style (after all, you can't 3D print a 'pew pew' noise) and highlighting a 3D sculpt of the same thing would be super well received. (For example: I don't have space for 3D printer [funds issue aside], but if that changes, I'll be all over Knarb's (and Trent's) designs for things I can use primarily because they highlighted them in videos)
Loved this video so much! I'm not sure where people think the 3d files we print come from... like they just magically appeared on our computer! I don't see a bottle of resin as being any different to a sheet of EVA foam, or some 3d design progrm being different from a craft knife. Love the satire and love the aesthetic!
That cave air brush technique is next level. Do you load the paint into your nose or directly into your mouth? 🤣🤣Hilarious video! Make what you want using the tools that you can is what I say 👍 Merry Christmas Knarb 🎄⛄
Directly in my mouth. i can mix together multiple paints as well easily if i swish them around. Also please dont do this, it was totally just a gag. Happy holidays!
Enjoyed the humor in this one. And while I do consider 3D Printing an awesome tool in crafting stuff, I don’t own one (small apartment, low wife-acceptance-factor, no time for yet another hobby etc) and thus videos that don’t use one simply appeal to me more.
Weather or not its crafting or not. Its still creative and imaginative. I liked the cave man aspect. It was really entertaining. And is a comedienne crafting jokes. Or a story teller crafting words and sentences. Epic video. 🥰👍 And Thanks. And Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 ❤
Now that's a-spicy thumbnail! It's funny to me that you've got luddites hassling you...on UA-cam. UA-cam isn't real video production, go watch cable television!
Throg like build! Throg remember when Throg start crafting...no chert only sharpened bone. Throg got bone from cousin who too slow to dodge mammoth. Thigh bone best for craft. Knarb craft good. Throg also wonder where dumpster is...Throg asking for friend. :-D
Next, we need the video of you cutting down a tree, with your chert knife, then pulping the lumber with your pronounced cave dweller forehead. That's how the cave folk did it, so we expect no less from you. :D Thoroughly amusing, and a great way to show the value of multiple methods. That "us v them" thing gets so tedious
Unless you mined the pigments yourself with a rock to make your own paint as well as gluing your pubes to a stick to make a brush ITS NOT CRAFTING!!!!!!!
i model pretty much everything that i make with 3D printing but I also don’t get why people make such a fuss over started with a premade digital model. ESPECIALLY with stuff like tabletop gaming where the majority of it is done with resin cast miniatures.
The whole thing with people calling 3D printing "not crafting" is just plain silly to me. It's no less crafting than using plastic kits--the only place I could see it called "not crafting" is if you were just printing out pre-assembled minis/terrain, and even then there's still a considerable hobby element to it. In my opinion, I think the whole thing just stems from disappointment of people who aren't able to 3D print. It can certainly be disheartening to see more and more crafters rely on technology and techniques unavailable to you--I felt the same way seeing traditional crafters use airbrushes and the like. At the end of the day though, every crafter has to use all the tools at their disposal, and rely on the techniques that work for them. Not every crafting video needs to tailor to every kind of crafter. And besides, almost every "advanced technique," be it 3D printing or airbrushing, can be replicated by traditional means--airbrushing effects can be made with drybrushing, 3D printing can be substituted with bits and kitbashing. It just takes more time and effort, which is why lots of creators make the switch to quicker, more advanced methods.
Is 3D printing like Auto-tune for music? Your Nerd humor is fun. I knew I subbed to you for some reason...(reason: seems like there is a joke larking about here) oh well the logic escapes me now.
People who think 3D printing isn't crafting are the same people that think drivers aren't racers. The car is doing all the work, all you're doing is rotating a steering wheel left and right, and pushing 2 pedals up and down. Where's the running? Legs? Keeping track of pace and ensuring you don't get tired? XD
I think your creative and effective use of technology is your greatest strength as a terrain maker🤷♂Its what sets you apart and makes you an innovator in the hobby. Keep up the great work!🦾
Nicely done. As a terrain 3d terrain modeler I tend to disagree with the trolls, but then there is always someone out there who wants to look down the their nose at everything that isn't what they like. You're response is much more polite than my typical response.
I’m glad you used the “primitive cardboard” in your build. Because using that new tangled modern cardboard is NOT real crafting. Also I love the high pitched sound of the “hand blown” zenithal highlighting. Great video!
I have called 3d printing cheating for a long time. These days are over though. You need a specific skillset to print. You have to learn everything about not even talking about sculpting. I am always happy to watch a video by you doesn't matter if you print or craft or even use your fancy laser edger on your foam because you create such amazing things!
Wtf are people even saying with this crap?! Crafting sections have laser cutters and vinyl cutters at flippin WalMart now! I guess using a GPS isn't navigation because I didn't use a sextant.
To be fair, if people are going to throw shade at you, you could blow their minds and sculpt in clay, then paint it. I've seen people create Cave Trolls out of Clay and then paint them, and they looked amazing!
Reminds me of when paper started becoming more common, and there was a professor complaining about how students never go through the effort to learn how to chisel stone without getting it all over themselves anymore.
Loving the video. Top quality. Very well thought out and put together. Ya got me chuckling throughout the whole video with the primitive tools bit. Very well done.
Saying 3D printing is "cheating" is nonsense. It's a tool, like any other. To fail to teach people to use all the tools available is folly. If only to save people work that isn't necessary, if there's a tool that can do the job much easier. That said, I do think there's a virtue in teaching people how to craft terrain that _doesn't_ require hundreds of dollars worth of investment.
You put a working 3D printer in the dumpster, sending it to the landfill? Oh no! Call Mike the Scavenger ASAP! And ANYTHING can be a crafting tool -- whatever you use to express your creativity!
People who claim 3d printing isn't crafting are the same folks who'll tell you that using an airbrush is cheating. Or that real hobbyists don't use contrast/speed paints.
Lol!!! I love your sense of humor. I also love that at least one person out there, I have to imagine, took this semi-seriously. I sincerely hope there's somebody out there trying to do a.zenithal highlight by blowing paint through a straw. Paint they made from grinding up plants of course. You're getting pretty great at 3d modeling Knarb. Do you ever worry about GW sending out a hit squad? Its my understanding that crafting 28mm terrain, using even caveman methods, is copyright infringement. Certainly they own the rights to even rawhide glue and likely cardboard by now. PS - captain caveman was a great cartoon. One of my faves as a kid. Nice classic reference. Merry Christmas Knarb and to the rest of the Knarb clan too...

I know there are other channels that have tried this kind of thing but, frankly, it's super dry stuff and hard to keep your focus. I think you could do a better job of it but (obviously) you'd know better if it would be doable or a good use of your time. I wouldn't want you to put a lot of work into something and not get a decent return for your time. I'd love to be able to model my own but I'm not overly artistic. Haha, thanks Nic. You are probably a prime example of how awesome you can make stuff with 3d printer tech. Keep at it!
Ignore the people who say "3D printing isn't crafting", I got into 3D printing because it is too painful to craft by hand now. If anything, it has taught me a few skills in 3D design.
I think he will ignore them, seeing as the video is one big sarcastic middle finger lol

What a great build, and such a fun video. Both versions of the portal look pretty boss. Season's Greeting to you and family Knarb.

An entire satire video from one comment lol brilliant.
For some reason, that comment really dug deep for me.
haha enjoyed this one Knarb, I think the whispers added a lot to it XD
Do YOU hear the voices too?

What should I do if my tribe hasn't discovered fire? You kids and your damned modern technology!
Loved all of this. Had me laughing the whole time. Good on ya for fighting the trolls.
how tf did you manage to produce that video without laughing every 10 seconds?
10/10 take my upvote Sir!
It was really hard recording the voiceover, haha.
Also I really liked this. Merry Christmas K-Narb!
Merry X-Mas Bill!
3D printing isn't crafting.
I knew it, it was you all along.
Now they are going to say that using primitive tools and materials is not crafting. You can only use your hands and mud. Good luck.

Did you also Craft your brushes!?
My Bristleback Boar Brush? Nah I got it from my friend Stonesmash, lives next cave over.
Nicely done. As a terrain 3d terrain modeler I tend to disagree with the trolls, but then there is always someone out there who wants to look down the their nose at everything that isn't what they like. You're response is much more polite than my typical response.
The accurate level of trolling is an artwork in this video
I'd just ignore the haters. It may not be crafting or might be.. But what you do with the product is awsome
I wish I could like this vid twice!
LMAO. Well done, my friend!
3D printing may not be crafting, but what you do with it is.
That chert looks suspiciously like a 3d print.... 😆
I sit on a throne of lies 😂
All I heard was "little bits" 🤣🤣🤣 awesome video keep up the good work I'm dying to make some or your battle mats 👍👍👍
Adam Driver crafts great terrain.
newspaper to light a fire? what a cheater, a real modeler would have used a fire plough
Look at Mr. Fancy Cave with his paper straw... I guess he's too good for a hollow reed like the rest of us knuckle dragging cave crafters.

I’m glad you used the “primitive cardboard” in your build. Because using that new tangled modern cardboard is NOT real crafting. Also I love the high pitched sound of the “hand blown” zenithal highlighting. Great video!

[in whisper voice] "Fire isn't crafting"
Haha 😄.... amazing video Knarb.
What a video, lol! Had to smirk all the way through
man this was wEiirD haha a parody that became a real video
Getting pretty advanced there with the use of fire
"... multi grain cereal..." This video was hilarious and a great build, Good Job!
Ngl, I was laughing through half this video. "wooden naaaaaaiiiiillllllsssss......"
Basically toothpicks, NGL
Yeah using a tool isn’t crafting
Finally, a Paleo crafting video! I can only assume you experienced increased verility and libido having abandoned your 3D lifestyle?
Yes, feels great.
3D printing is physical piracy and I love it.
Screw GW and any bootlickers who are mad about it.
So using a cricut isn't cutting?

I love it when someone just dunks on commenters that have an obviously mean / antagonistic / gate keepy "opinion".
Reminds me of when paper started becoming more common, and there was a professor complaining about how students never go through the effort to learn how to chisel stone without getting it all over themselves anymore.
Lol 😂 great video
well 3d printing may not be crafting but neither is buying miniatures in a box. as this hilarious video illustrates: do as you feel.
hahaha Brilliant! Ill have to give that glue recipe a try
You're so funny!
Cave sneakers 🤣
f'n love it.
A 3d printer is just one more tool to help you craft, mix it into the rotation like anything else. Great vid, keep it up!
The caveman grunts and ominous whispering make this even better lol - portal looks fantastic!
I would be interested to know that you left the 3D printer so that I could see it 😈
Haha, I went back and got it after the video, just being cheeky.
@@KnarbMakes
it was clear to me but he had to ask here even if I didn't just get there :-D
Knarb. Youre amazing. You do you. Don’t let the assholes get you down. I love watching your content in whatever form you choose to share.

_3D printing is to crafting as printing is to painting_
It is crafting, but with 90% of the fun taken out of it...
Hard flex! Ain'ters gonna ain't 😁👍🏻
Why are people gate keeping a hobby? The hell is wrong with people
People who claim 3d printing isn't crafting are the same folks who'll tell you that using an airbrush is cheating. Or that real hobbyists don't use contrast/speed paints.
Right!
I've never laughed so much during a crafting video! 😆😂🤣
I like model making and I like a quirky sense of humour -you can't get much better than this!
You do realize this vid was magic, pure magic. 💁🏻
I love the way you handled this. I love to see the mix of the two and you made your position clear without being overly serious. Sorry, cave-serious.
Thanks Sam! Just having a bit of fun :D
"Throne of lies..." - ROFL
Super fumy video. Great job.
You can just buy hide glue from the hardware store...'
Oh damn. This would have been good to know a few weeks ago.
Goddamnid I want to use it all !!
As you should!
Funny! Great video and great terrain pieces!
It’s not crafting... crafts by definition are done by hand....
I make everything with my hands. Brain Computer interfaces don't work that well yet.
Hilarious ! Thank you !
Love the portal, is it possible to feed led to light up the ring?
Yeah, I thought about that after I made it. Should be possible to drill a hole through one of the pillars, and run wires along the ring

Can i ask (you may have mentioned already but I don't recall) what software you use to model with? Would it be a decent video to do an intro to using it? There's a bunch of really good blender tutorials on UA-cam if you want to get started, just takes a bit of time set aside to learn.
ty for the video. I have 2 questions: Do u use a respirator when painting with the airbrush? and also when using cement glue?
