I flew across the pond in a C-5. I was the only Navy on board headed to my next command during the Somalia crisis in OCT 93 I think it was. I'll never forget that trip of a life time. They were Rangers they said on a mission. We took off from Dover AF base. I could have any seat I wanted on top of the cargo below that I wanted. A journey of a lifetime. Side note: Half way there we had to land it because of a crack in the windshield, I don't know where or remember how long but we finally landed safely on the beach in Somalia where I met my next command off the coast of Somalia.
I just picture they get through loading, lock up, take off, then the pilot says damn I forgot my wallet.

I could have sworn I read about a young airman that stole a C5. I remember reading it in my CDC Career Development Course in 1981 in the Philippines when I was in upgrade training.

I would love to work with the Airforce cargo planes like the C-17 and the C-5 and others. I don't know why I like the loading so much but it's interesting to me.

I switched to the 2T2 career field in the Air Force which does the loading and its amazing.
@@jwhyte67 Where is most of the weight distributed? Heaviest in the center then as even as possible? Do they have multiple drops where sometimes that kind of loading would prove impractical? Very cool video. Amazing that something that big and heavy actually flies.

Yes and No. The frames are mainly from the 80's, but they were upgraded with new motors, LCD flight deck, new equipment and refurbished. Like taking an old truck to a custom car shop and having them make it more bad ass.

Aircraft should have an attachment either on the lower top or wings of the plane, that attachment should bear the parachutes that can be manually controlled by the pilot so as to avoid plane crash when engine failure occurs on the plane, in that way the affected plane will land slowly by the help of an attached parachute. That's how to prevent loss of lives and it will also be an advantage to prevent damage and fire that can occur during plane crash.

I posed a question on a channel here on UA-cam, can a C-5 Galaxy transport a Cat - D 11 ? As Im looking at it , perhaps it can do it in pieces, but not a 1 piece because of the D11s height. I think the dozers blade may have to come off, and loaded sideways.

Why have C-17s and C-130s when we got the biggest cargo jet in the entire American military? The C-5 can carry even more cargo than any other jet in the world including two tanks and a helicopter

Karuiko i have seen many external fuel tanks but they are long,slim and cylindrical in shape. This one looks like a fat guy
As in the nuke they dropped on Japan? Definitely not, that bomb is a lot shorter and fatter, hence the name. I very much doubt it's any sort of nuclear weapon if they're just loading it onto a C5 without any sort of casing.
