This interview is profound as fuck. They don't just talk about what movies are or what painting is but about life. As someone who started painting a little bit recently this interview and especially Willem's insights had a strong effect on me.
Probably the best movie I have ever seen! I finally saw it this past weekend. It affected me intensely! I followed it up with the Paul Gaugin movie about his trip to Tahiti which is the reason PG leaves his room mate situation with VVG. It was a great, fuller perspective! It also gave perspective to the letter that PG sends VG. If you haven't seen this, it's a must watch! Great interview! The best I've seen yet with Dafoe on his VVG character.
Definately. DaFoe has an element of acting that I find extremely rare in the craft. He is, without question, one of the very greatest and one of whom I seriously admire
'Inhabiting a character'; method acting on steroids! I adore Dafoe's dedication to his craft, and this was a very well thought-out interview with intelligent questions. Now I must see this movie, and maybe paint. Thank you.
I just watched the film, I think it was wonderful. While sailing my boat through the Marquises Islands I visited the site of where Paul Gauguin is buried. And I bought every postcard they had from the little local country store. This was in 1993. I should post pictures of those days sailing, on my Facebook page. Beautiful memories.
Did you ever post those photos from your trip on Facebook? I'd love to see them... They sound wonderful and I've never been there. Would enjoy seeing a few of your favorite post cards too! Hope you're doing well and are happy. Take Care ⛵️🗺 🏝
You didn't manage to watch Loving Vincent? WHY? It's brilliant and the amount of creative work that went into it is astounding. Go back to it - give it a chance.
You're right - I didn't give it enough of a chance. God knows, I'll probably be disappointed with the Dafoe movie too after all the expectations I've put in it!
@@michg8969 I went to the Dafoe film with mixed expectations. I was pleasantly surprised...as was everyone else in the theater. If you go into it realizing that it's a representation of who Vincent was and not 100% historically accurate I think you'll love it. It's a visual wonder.

After I saw the the film I Willem Dafoe gained a whole new respect from me.... After this interview

@@JoeLaRocca It's called, "Journey To Tahiti." Enjoy!
This is quite literally one of the best interviews I’ve ever seen.
Dafoe is a very eloquent and intelligent man. And one of the greatest american actors of all time.

My favorite actor, so talented and real...
Thinking gets in the way of living life fully.
I love him so much ,,,,,,,, what an inelegant man and a talented actor 🙏❤️
Fascinating to listen to Dafoe - a must see.
I can't wait to see this - I only managed 5 minutes of "Loving Vincent" and need to expunge the memory of it!

I know what you mean! The first 10 minutes of the film, I wasn't feeling it but, I kept watching and towards the middle, I was hooked.
This was an inspiring and stimulating chat.
I love that bit at 19.40, to me its a allusion to the famous quote, am i what i think or am i what i do.
i love the way he talks
Loved the movie so happy it was made!
The best thing about the movie was Dafoe's portrayal.
I love that Elena from Billy on the Street was front row 29:34
I like him because this movie
You know, I'm something of a painter myself.
Tonight on inside the actors studio lol the ppl asking questions
Van Gogh did not cut off his ear. It was sheared off by a piece of sheet metal in a fight with Paul Goguin in Goguin's apartment.
If you put them in a cage Willem Dafoe would take out Jeff Goldblum in round 1.
Willem da GOAT lol
Not fond of me lobster are Ye?
