Literally, the most underrated band of my lifetime thus far. Her voice is so special, and I'm super excited for this upcoming album. I do hope that we get some of the darker, haunting, and heavy tracks from them like we've had on the previous albums (for example, The Hate I Won't Commit). Long live Land of Talk, and forever may they continue to make music!
Elizabeth Powell's career as the songwriter and vocalist behind Land of Talk could be aptly characterized as elusive; deeply personal, yet impenetrable at the same time. In every regard, "This Time" is the most direct song she's ever created. The raw emotion was present in "Applause Cheer Boo Hiss," but submerged in a sea of guitars and distortion. "Cloak and Cipher" was a siren's call reminiscent of a Cold War numbers station, as though its lyrics could be decoded if only the listener had obtained the key. Here, Elizabeth's vocals are naked, completely lacking in mystery. Indeed, her singing almost sounds amplified above the level of the music. "This Time" is her mantra, a declaration for all the world to hear. This song is astonishing.
thank you so much for coming back ❤ Edit: On Friday 06/12/19 i was on your show in São Paulo, It was the highlight of my life... I listen to you guys since Quarry Hymns's release... Thank you very much for everything you've done for me Lizzy, fav band ever ❤️
Emotion, sensibilité,mélodie. Un titre splendide tout simplement. Je l'écoute, je le réécoute encore et encore...je ne m'en lasse pas, je le redécouvre à chaque fois. Chapeau l'artiste. Merci.
It was great seeing them last Tues. in Allston Mass. and then Wed. at the Bowery Ballroom. It was great meeting Elizabeth at the Brighton Music Hall way before the show. Nice girl. Got to speak with the drummer too a few times both days. I love their new songs and I love Elizabeths voice! She seems to hit all the right notes and sings in tune perfectly!
I love this song. LoT are one of the few bands who engage me these days. Too many posturing careerists and not enough artists. Hurrah for Land of Talk!
Holy f scored tickets for Wednesday night,! Wooo! Now, to score some Lilly Hyatt tickets at the end of summer....Halifax, I haven’t been this excited since like 92-93 when we had a music scene.
Inner Lover was a pleasant different direction, but this is the Land of Talk I crave. Really good stuff. Not many artists can spin a song that pulls you in so quickly and completely. I'm looking forward to hearing all the new songs.
So glad I decided to switch from Spotify to TIDAL, because I don't think I would have found them so easily as well as some other similar unknown bands.
That was my thought, as well. Back when the first Sundays' album came out, I could listen to it over and over again just because of Harriet Wheeler's voice.
considering the lyrics this video could be seen as really ironic..about 6 mins of someone doing nothing but holding some kind of cool sparkler..and yet it doesn't get boring/uncomfortable because the music holds me.. well played, sirs, well played.

@@donniebobb74 yoooooooooooo thanks for the heads up dude!
Lizzie's voice is so mellow that I think I can listen to her nonstop for the rest of my life!

fishflake1209
i enjoyed reading this, well done
fishflake1209 hey, nicely done!
fishflake1209 love this kind of metaphoric analysis.. especially how u describe Cloak and Cypher which suggests it was a very aptly named title.
Highly appreciate this insight. It added to my understanding of the historical trails of Elizabeth Powell.
Whenever I return to this song I seek out this comment. A lightbulb flashes while I'm listening and I go "Oh yeah, I need to read that again."
Te amo tantoooooooo
that sweet rolling bass tone

first time when I listened I freaking love this! ❤❤❤
The looping guitar reverb after the first chorus is sublime. The song--brilliant, fucking brilliant.

She sounds like the singer from The Sundays. Good stuff
That was my thought, as well. Back when the first Sundays' album came out, I could listen to it over and over again just because of Harriet Wheeler's voice.
