You are better off with a LiTime 12v 100ah LiFePO4 in your forward compartment and carrying it inside to charge during cold weather. Running your graphs on higher volts does not improve the picture you get. Dropping below 12v does. And it can damage your graph permanently. I have a double battery hack with six 20v5ah batteries and six chargers for sale. When we added a 126SV to the bow we started having problems keeping it, the 102SV originally there, and the livescope powered up. A guide friend of ours showed us his setup and recommended the batteries. Only drawback is you have to haul it inside to charge it in winter. BUT it only weighs 22 pounds!! ONE of these Li Time batteries cost a little more than ONE DeWalt 20v10ah.
I saw another hack using a regular gigabit switch instead of the Garmin switch to network you graphs and live scope it is not a waterproofed switch but if you have a dry comparment in your vessel it should stay dry. Network switch are $ 15.99 and up.
I called garman and they told me not to exceed 18 volts on my Ultra units. But the black box I can run the 20 volt battery system as its ratings are 36 volts.
Ok, can I run the CLS-10 black box off of the dewalt 20 volt battery, and run the UHD-93sv off of a deep cycle marine battery all by it self, and be ok with the voltage? Very good video you put out, very informative, just a lot going on with the voltage that I'm not real sure about. thanks .
You have to check the spec sheets. Some are rated 10-18 but others are rated 10-32v. All my units and Blackbox are rated for 10-32v. I do know a bunch of people running 93sv off 20v. Look up kansas angling experience. He's done 2 videos. First one I installed for him. Second one he did and shot detailed footage.
I did a test to see if my setup would work with 20 volts. I run the echomap uhd 73sv. It started up and ran fine at 20 volts. I know garmin says max 18 but it worked fine. Its probably close enough to fall within the fudge room that all specs take into account. I risked it because one i seen others do this on the uhd units and it worked and i am still within my cabelas replace for any reason period lol. I am a diy guy so i used molded pvc to make my own holder for 3 porter cable batteries since thats the tools i have. I put 3 20v 2ah in parallel. Have not had a chance to fish with it yet. But on the trailer everything starts up fine.
Do you have any pictures of how the final setup is in the boat? And what gauge wire did you run from the Seelite to the graph and livescope box. Do you split off the seelite to run to each device? Sorry the wiring side of electronics is totally foreign to me. But I am recognizing now on the water how much draw the livescope is on the cranking battery and want to fix that.
I wanted to run my GLS10 black box alone on a Dewalt battery. I used 10 gauge wire and a 12V rocker switch between the battery and the black box, but when I turned it on, it would always blow the 7.5 inline fuse that came with the Garmin power cable. Should I change the fuse to one with greater amperage or should I do something else?
If you change the fuse to a higher one you will probably damage your unit. I would look at the specifications of the voltage range in the owners manual. If it's like my 75sv it has a range from 9-18 volts. I have 18v Milwaukee batteries and wouldn't dare hook my unit up to one.
I don’t understand stand what you mean when you said that you can run 20 volts with no problem but if you run a lower voltage of 18 volts you would need a voltage regulator. I must be missing something.
I have the Garmin gps1222 with live scope...................which battery set up do you recommend. I went to the Garmin website and could not find any data on voltage . Thanks for you help !
Have you noticed the higher voltage working better with side vu. I have 2 Garmin Eco Map UHD 93sv. When I run the side vu at high frequency I can only set the range to 40' and the depth is only good for about 10 to 30fow. Outside of that everything is black.
So do you run ONLY your Garmin graph on One Dewalt battery, or do you run the graph AND black box together on one Dewalt? I ordered 2 Seelite adapters.
I've got a uhd 93 sv, I've got live scope and the see lite adapter coming tomorrow. I already have some De Walt tools so I have 2 of the 60 flex volt , 6.0 AH battery's. my just wondering how long a 6.0 AH battery will last running the 93 and LS with the display screen at 100% brightness?
Should get about 5-5.5 hours each out of them. I'm running 2 graphs now, and livescope on 2-9ah and last 15 hours or more. Haven't killed them yet. Need to try two consecutive days without charging next. Love the set up though.
@@kansasyouthbass Do you have your 2 graphs and LS connected to 1, 9ah or you have 1, 9ah to the LS and the other 9ah for the two graphs? Does your unit say you can run 20v? Some units do not allow that. My unit is rated for up to 32v for instance and some are way less. Check you specification sheet for prime operating level and voltage max.
I have the garmin echomap plus 73sv. Thats the only thing (no livescope) lookin for a lighter battery option on my kayak. Do u think this is a good option and which battery would u recommend? 20v 6ah?
Your spec sheet says 9v-18v I would call garmin to verify. I've heard of others using them but check with them first about it. My unit says 10-32v. Another good option would be a 25-40ah Lithium from Dakota, Amped, Wholesale Batteries, etc.
Need to purchase as many as you want to hook up. One is plenty if you want to change battery on the water. I'm just lazy so hooked up 2 together so no worries on the water.
You say most Garmin units allow 10-32v. Where are you getting this information. That’s not what Garmin says in their specs. Ultra and 93sv say 9-18v. Have you checked with Garmin about running over 18v? Just asking.
I have the ultra 126sv with live scope. Does the unit get its power through the black box or is it powered separately. The 126 says 9 to 18 volts so I want to make sure before I put 20 vdc to the black box.
Hi, great vid and good info. Apparently Lithium batteries explode in contact with water. Are the Dewalt etc batteries waterproof? I have Kayaks and looking for light power sources. We have FPV Power water proof batteries here but a little pricey. Thank you for any help. Want to get Garmin UHD Echomap when comes out here with new GT56 transducer. Cheers Ian
I dropped a dewalt drill and battery in a pool at a house I was working on and it was in there for a few minutes. 30 minutes of air drying later the drill and battery worked again
Its not cheaping out on batteries. It anything it is more costly unless you all ready have the batteries lying around. My striker 4 needs .4 amps to run at 12v. With my 18v 5.0 ah battery it should run for days before needing a recharge. People fishing out of a Kayak will benefit the most.
That battery is only 120wh. will run a basic Livescope setup for 3.5hrs. lol. Not very cost effective if you need 4 batteries for a full fishing day, not to mention the hassle of having to switch them out. Another plus for running graph 18.6 v the display is crisp and brighter than a 12 v system.

Lowrance need 12v, there are adapters out there for the Milwaukee and Dewalt 12v batteries. The only downside is capacity.

Won't the 20v be too high for a max 18v garmin? Thanks!
If your Garmin is only rated for that. Mine however are rated for higher..as stated in the video
