Looking good! Couldn't help but wonder if you should cut out the inside of that gasket you made. I know it will work fine the way it is but over time I was thinking it may start too flake apart and leave little pieces of cork inside the gear box. Just a thought.
Good point, since the original gasket was cut out in the middle too... Shall we put it down to "haste makes waste"? Thanks for thinking for me. I may have to go back now and cut it out, just for the reason you mentioned.
This right angle drive box was a gift from one of my subscribers, who told me that this came off of a vintage mower deck. You can buy them on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/174788591728?hash=item28b2364070:g:WnYAAOSw-0xYTtRG&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAAsDZCfXU9JS%2BUWYm%2B1rAs7DeoV5qhQj00B0mBPeOzgfgZw5E5ws8qxvAAqQIIC6o0CwVvL9yIzuu8TjJZ76CMEQXfa%2B0qHXT30P1lnbUhwRk6XFfFCIkXmVlgOmGThT8bWBUABIa7o4fGorOaJjlATJCyNMxNR7qGDOqPd3GFqAGeyjBnSSA9mEHzdO%2BCWLuWDXmteSLRB7BnAHqR1SwdFJo35sWEr5Qujon67h0n9HNh%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR7Dk1eqZYQ Thanks for stopping in and taking a look with me.
George talking about shaky hands...I only shake when someone is watching over my shoulder...LOL I guess you should shake also as you have hundreds of us watching over your shoulder...LOL The gearbox looks great. Have a great evening.
I believe so, it seems to be taking the gaff of the Goofy Cart so far. I know they use them in racing lawn mowers too. It was originally a right angle drive off of a vintage lawn mower deck. Thanks for stopping by.
Nice job George, can't wait to see it all built. On a separate note I have a question. Since you one of my friends whom is a mechanical genius I have a request for you. Any ideas of how to add power steering to a lawn tractor? It's getting to the point I have a bit of a problem driving min, between my back and heart.
Wow, that is a horse of a different color for sure. Let me think on that one, Rusty. Anything can be done, but will it be less expensive than buying a tractor with it already in place??? Some lawn mowers already have power assist on them, like larger John Deere and Kobota, etc.
Thanks George I am fairly certain you'll come up with an idea. Buying a new tractor is not an option the one I have is only three years old. But I can see this being a real issue for me in the next few years. Someone mentioned a 12 volt power steering setup from the juck yard as a possible way to do it.
I was thinking the same thing, many of the newer cars use electronic steering so that the whole unit is encapsulated into one relatively small unit. You would only need to adapt it to the steering column itself that way, maybe as simple as mounting just above the dash? I'm still researching.
Does anyone know where i can find one? I need some help i just graduated from highschool. I took a small engines class loved it and have taken the challenge to turn a mower into a race mower but i have a vertical shaft engine and would like to get a gokart axle for that i need a right angle gear box and a torque converter.
If you have a vertical shaft engine you don't need a right angle gear box, just install a transmission from an older lawnmower, like I have on my Goofy Cart. The only reason for the angle gear box is because I have a horizontal shaft engine. A Peerless 700 transmission will give you 5 speeds forward as well as a reverse gear. I have another video on rebuilding and installing one on my cart. Thanks for stopping by.
It was from an old lawn mower deck, They are used a lot by riding mower racing guys and you can find them on eBay as well. They are pretty pricey on there, but this one was donated to the cause by a subscriber. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2060353.m570.l1311.R11.TR12.TRC2.A0.H0.Xright+angle.TRS0&_nkw=right+angle+gearbox&_sacat=0 Thanks for stopping by.
Good eye Greg. I got too many sparks on it from welding one day and ruined my vintage UA-cam Garage Gang sweatshirt. No pain for me, thankfully. Blessings
