I kind of miss these type of products: kid-friendly companies taking an existing device and revamping the whole thing for kids to use. 6 year old me would've *adore* this device, and I wasn't even that deep into Disney at that time. Now we got phones and tablets designed for kids, but I wish another company steps up and take over PCs and Chromebooks.
I remember an entire video game system that had little kid friendly games, controllers built for tiny hands, and was sold more as an educational toy for toddlers and preschoolers than a game system for older kids or the whole family... kind of ahead of its time, my family didn't know anyone else who owned one, and finding proof it even existed besides my own memories of playing on it was harder than I expected it to be. It was interesting because it was a cartridge based system well after disc based became the standard, and because the home console that needed a TV and the portables took the exact same cartridges, and in addition to the standard controllers built for rather small hands, they also sold an even more "little kid sized"/accessible controller that had the small buttons bigger and laid out differently and requiring less force to press. I'm pretty sure the only reason we bought one was because it had a much better selection of official Winnie the Pooh games than any proper adult/family console (and Mum and Dad knew from the computer games they bought me, only Pooh Bear video games were really worth buying as far as money spent to hours enjoyed ratio), and the way the cartridges worked meant not needing to buy the games twice to have them both on the home unit and on the portables we eventually got. Also, it was for me and my brother to share, and he was kinda the target age of the kid friendly controllers, so anything else with more complex controls would be a bit unfair to him...
Well, the desktop really was a proper Disney PC with a physically customized case, monitor and keyboard. That is, dedicated injection molds had to be made for the product. This netbook, by contrast, just has special printing on the lid and palm rest, and a slightly modified install of XP.

Disney had their version of a mp3 player called Disney mix (I think) where you had to buy a sd card sized cartridge of disney music that you put into the "mix" and you could also plug it into your computer.
Sample Pictures was actually stored in the "All Users" Pictures folder, and only had a shortcut linking it from your personal My Pictures. That'd happen with any tree file selector in XP, I believe.

I think the problem with Pix might be related to the fact example pictures are placed in public pictures instead of user's pictures. While Windows Explorer handles "my pictures" location by combining user's pictures with public ones, the Pix app is not able to properly handle "my pictures" location this way.

7:10 Oh the memories... I landed my first job repairing exclusively netbooks as nobody else wanted to deal with them. What a pain it was...especially when the netbook had something as a 3150 with 8mb of memory, and the owner wanted to play Halo.
I have also used a 2009 Sony VAIO netbook which came pre-installed with Windows XP Home Edition until it broke in 2018. I also thought why it came with Windows XP if it was released in 2009. It could also run Windows 7 and Vista. I couldn't manage to install Windows 10 on it due to NX support required. It had an Intel Atom processor
Netbooks with the first gen N270 Atom definitely have the NX bit, I've ran Windows 10 on mine. If yours didn't work it was probably disabled by a BIOS setting.
I had the regular same spec Eee PC 900HA. In terms of performance it was ok for the time. Only letdown was they used a first gen single core Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz CPU that was in terms of performance very slow. Only real update you could do on these was upgrade the ram from 1gb to 3gb by installing an additional 2gb DDR2 module and install a larger HDD.
Oh man, eeePCs! I remember those so much. I had one of the very first ones, the 2GB capacity (yes, capacity, not RAM!) 700 series, and a later model a few years on from that. Would be interesting to get hold of a 700 series again for a laugh...

There's not really anything ironic about that though... The System Scanner just tells you what RAM is compatible with your system if you were interested in upgrading your memory. It's completely different from stuff like Super Optimizer, which pretty much scares you into buying software that you don't need.
Yep, you can revive an old netbook with Raspberry Pi OS x86 or another lightweight 32-bit Linux distro, or even upgrade XP to a full Windows 7 install. I have Win 7 on a Dell netbook and even with 1GB of RAM it runs pretty well. With Raspi OS it's like having a dinky Pi laptop, and is great for coding in Python on the go thanks to the machine's super portability.

That “DO NOT PLAY” got Me
You are the reason I am obsessed with the Disney laptop and its version of XP! Thanks Micheal :)
„Blue Magic” is for boys that are 7-12+ but „Princess Pink” is for girls that are 4-8
"The happinest channel on Earth" is not an innacurate description, watching your videos is indeed fun
imagine if these companies actually kept their servers for these products
7:10 Oh the memories... I landed my first job repairing exclusively netbooks as nobody else wanted to deal with them. What a pain it was...especially when the netbook had something as a 3150 with 8mb of memory, and the owner wanted to play Halo.
Raspberry Pi OS works well on crappy old atoms, i have it on a old msi notebook.
I might try it out of curiosity
Could it have been one of those raspberry pi holes for domains and ads
When I was 7, I had my own desktop PC! A dell optiplex. Those office tasks were not boring to me!
I had the princess laptop as a kid!! I think I still have it somewhere
Omg I had one of these laptops when I was like 8! I’m still obsessed with laptops to this day, so this is where it started lol
The text at 0:09 says “disney pls dont sue”
This was a great overview of the disney netpal netbooks. You missed a few programs that was probably missing such as the webcam program.
Is it just nostalgia glasses or is that taskbar and music player slick af visual wise? That glossy finish is soooooooo nice
Hahaha we still have this laptop back home! We bought it for my sister decades ago. Need to dig it up.
Woah Disney and PC 😲
I used Magic Desktop a ton as a kind. That program was legendary.
disney, a company that makes MOVIES and TV SHOWS, proceeds to make a laptop.
Those OG robloc icons brought back so many memories.
I Miss The Old Roblox Studio Icon
I wonder if the laptop still has the old Roblox installer somewhere on it, since most of the old Roblox launchers are "lost to time"
@@zye. definitely
Oh man, eeePCs! I remember those so much. I had one of the very first ones, the 2GB capacity (yes, capacity, not RAM!) 700 series, and a later model a few years on from that. Would be interesting to get hold of a 700 series again for a laugh...
Disney: Let's Make A Disney Laptop
Asus: ok. (now we have to put princesses on a laptop)
this made me realise that the old tiny family laptop i remember being so fond of was an Eee PC. Not a disney one, but an Eee PC nonetheless
Kinda cool if Disney Made Special ASUS Laptops that are Kid Friendly. Not to mess with the mouse!
A family friendly laptop? Perfect for *ME!*
@@ShadowGD_OfficialYT ah yes, it's perfect for Unknown From *M.E.*
@@generallyunimportant What?
@@ShadowGD_OfficialYT It's a reference to Knuckles's theme in Sonic Adventure. Kinda random, but I approve.
(No, seriously though. It really is the perfect theme for Knuckles. The Adventure 2 remix is awsome too. I'm gonna go listen to it again now... 😂)
@@kidwolf0015 Oh, ok.
6:52 How interesting. Very old version of Roblox Player but very recent version of Roblox Studio.
imagine bringing a disney laptop at work or school
magic
Very kool imo
I did back in the day!
Joel Vargskelethor obviously did his best on the first princess pc.
Yes🙃
see this wouldn’t be so strange to me if the netbooks had like, disney CHARACTERS on them. but it’s just a disney logo?? idk i find that sort of strange
was literally talking to my boyfriend about how i'd play runescape on the standard pink asus eee and this has brought back memories
we have the eeeee peecee
XP was my fav windows and I miss it. I thought it was the easiest to use (even to this day) and I just loved it. Also it could still play older pc games :/
Can you try to make a .iso file of the operating system? (With all the Disney stuff.)
If he does that then he probably won't be able to post it online. Disney could sue him for copyright infringement. He'll have to keep it as private copy.
@@9Tailsfan but why would they Sue him if this is OLD??
@@Toys-R-Awesome98 They still own the copyrights. Big companies like Disney can get very aggressive when it comes to protecting their intellectual properties
@@9Tailsfanon part two he puts the restore media in the description
@@9Tailsfan Looking back at this now, I agree with you 100%. Although he did upload the restore ISO.
For sure I want to see the factory reset of the other laptop! I'm curious to see if the installation has any differences
I like the irony of Michael ridiculing "Super Optimizer" at 6:16 and then himself advertising "Crucial System Scanner" at 13:35 - I know they are pretty different but both aim to make you buy something you don't necessarily need haha
With Raspi OS it's like having a dinky Pi laptop, and is great for coding in Python on the go thanks to the machine's super portability.
i used raspi debian os on my old laptop and it was serviceable up to 360p stream on mpv, also offfers security and ended up as a great temporary ebook, since i had nothing else as small , quie and portablet, though the disk is dead now and has a PPa connection so yeah no more of it lel.
No Brasil ele foi lancado sem o apoio da Disney, e beeeem depois de 2004, acho que esse modelo chegou aqui em 2012-14
1 thing you got to enjoy from netbooks is that you can run some old 3D open world games and get the same framerates as a console
