- Опубліковано 27 кві 2023
- Let's Talk Bass Fishing In May! The bass are in transition and we're going to show you how to catch them! Most lakes have bass in every phase of the spawn by now, there are still lingering spawners but there are also a lot of post spawn fish. Some fish go deep while others stay around shallow cover. No matter how you like to fish, we've got tips to help you do it better!
There are a lot of great baits for targeting fish during the post spawn to early Summer transition, but we have some very clear favorites. Whether you're going deep or shallow, these are baits you can rely on to catch fish throughout the entire transition.
Below you'll find links to the baits discussed in the video. We've listed them in the order they appeared and included our favorite sizes and colors for each. We've also included a couple budget combos to help you consistently land the fish that bite. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Your dogs so well behaved. My new pup would be up there chewing screens, pacing like caged tiger and snapping poles.
Exactly mine would be in the water lol I wish I could take my dog with
That puppy energy is something different 😂
Weimaraner? Great dog. Had one save my bacon when I was a kid. Neighbors German Shepard was chasing me and the Weimaraner came across in a grey flash and took him out. Bought one when I got older.
Even though this video isn't about Dropshot...i was too excited and had to thank you guys!! After watching and studying all your Dropshot info all winter long, I finally went out today and for my very first ever Dropshotting, caught 4 largemouth!! I'm still grinning ear to ear. Yall are seriously the best!!!
Your dog 🐕 on his best behavior when the camera is on 😂
1️⃣🥇🏆It's Friday morning, it's spring, and here's a TB video! It doesn't get much better!!!🎉🎣
As usual, great video. Now you've got my dog hooked, she was glued to the TV watching your beautiful dog. ❤
You guys are always so educational! This is my favorite channel to learn something or if I have questions on something! ❤
Thank you for a sensational presentation. So thrilled to have Matt and Tim as my fishing consultants.
I love the Megabass popper. its got those water channels in it. caught a lot of fish on that. Great Vid as always. See you out there on the chic 👍
love the content and the depth in detail yall go into i love fishing i live on clearlake in California and the tips have dramatically increased the amout of bits i get
Great info as usual. You guys are the best.
Berkley money badger worked great couple weeks ago. Caught 12 one morning. Texas rigged brushhog been working also.
Thanks for the tips 🎣
Great job 👍🏾 all the baits you mentioned I do very well with them at this of year.
You make me miss having a Weimaraner. I’ve had four of them in my life and each one of them were wonderful.
These videos are very helpful. I’m going from bay redfish and trout to bass and stripers having to figure it out all over again.
Great video! Thanks as always
Beautiful dog brother!
Always look forward to new videos
I LOVE how Tim’s dog is off the leash…SOO SWAG!😉💯
thanks for the tips!
Always appreciate the 3 videos a week
Great video guys!
Great video as usual, I think a video showing the best baits for May for northern lakes would be cool and helpful
😅
Great Video! Anybody else see the ghost bird at 1:39? 😂😂
Sure did HA!
Great information thanks tighter ones always!!!
Great job thanks!!
Thank you Tim,great video ❤👊
I was enjoying the info. But watching your dog eyeballing the trolling motor on spot lock was priceless.
Crazy I have the same baits tied on!!! Hope to catch some this weekend!!
I’ve got a lot of the same tied on right now. Chatterbait, TR for finesse, Megabass Pop Max, S-Waver 120, and a square bill. Bought a few of the Damiki TOT, can’t wait to put it to work!
Good stuff, I've really given up on crankbaits and chatterbaits but i'm gonna give them a shot this weekend!
Nor cal guy here. We have been doing really well on a white keytech!
Just caught my first bass of the year on a nose hooked fluke. I really like senkos or yum dingers wacky rigged as far as finesse baits on my spinning rod. I really enjoy either a lipless or square bill on my baitcaster. I usually don't throw much top water until around June warm weather, but when I do, it's the occasional popper, or one of my favorites is the Berkeley Choppo.
I got on a crazy topwater bite with shad all over the banks down here in Texas last year! I’m hoping i Can stumble on it again this year 🤘🏽
LET'S GO!!!!
thanks man I gotta bass tournament tmrw and this helps
I have been crushing this year on a bluegill swim jig with green pumpkin blue flake keitec 3.3”
Been swimming it through sparse lily pads and probably caught 100-120 bass on that this year already!
I am just letting you know I caught my first bass on a jig with a big bites 4.5 bfe Tilapia Magic as a trailer. it wasn't huge but Hey! As many times I have been skunked at that lake. Thanks for your tips and teachings.
A crawler is also fantastic post spawn and I love the deps zero 120-150 it’s a floating Buzzbait basically and man do they smash it!!!
Love yer dog !
underspins and chatterbaits have been working well. I like a Neko setup a little better than a straight up wacky rig. Shakey head was working earlier in April but seems to have slowed a lot here in the Southeast at least where I'm at. Texas rig with a stick bait has started to work too.
TB FAMILY GREAT MORNING. LET'S GOOO!!
Nice Gray Ghost, I have one as well.
Always love the videos! Here is an off topic idea. Maybe you can do a video on how you made your dog your fishing buddy. I have a 5 month old puppy that I would love to get so I can take him fishing.
Love it
I have a brand new 7’4 Heavy fast daiwa tatula casting frog rod and a tatula CT, been waiting for y’all to mention topwater!
I had a good popper day this last Tues. Finally had a somewhat calm day with lower winds, I noticed they were hitting my squarebill while it was floating so I switched to a little Yo-Zuri micro popper I have and threw it on the ultralight. They tore it up.
Cool 🐶 😎🐟😎
Great dog breed. Was our best dog type.
👍💖 Beautiful dog
Good morning fellas!
Friday vibes and a fresh TB video full of information. Beautiful dog brother! Tight lines and like minds 🤘🎣😎
Weimaraner on board!
Nothing like a Tactical Bassin video to start the morning!
Tim, please introduce your fishin buddy. Beautiful pup.
Awesome tips Tim! I will be trying all these techniques here in Florida in May! I'm so glad my favorite bait (underspin) made the cut! Maybe one of these will help me break my PB! Thanks for the awesome video! 👏🎣🙌💯😎

Great video as usual, Tim! Any additional feedback on the Shimano Swagy Strong spinnerbaits or the new Shimano Rush crankbait to share with us?
Greeting from Indonesia brother
Been crushing it with a chatter bait and 5 inch grub trailer
Cool dog
A 7" power worm or a zoom lizard are also good choices
Tim, you gotta throw in a brush hog and speed craw on that list!! I wish sometime you guys would do a video on the midwest, as in the "ohio valley" where a 5lber is a jacket fish.
I know u guys boat flips 5lbers all day, we don't lol tight lines!
I've landed three 5+ lb'ers, and lost 2 bigger in the last 3 weeks in ohio.....been a good spring so far in ohio...hope tomorrow continues, as a big 9" Slug-go will be my 1st bait of choice once again
Spinner has been doing me well all through April, so I’m expecting it to carry thru May as well. Love me some Jackhammer this time of year tho!
I almost never get bit on a spinner bait. What's the secret?
@@amorton94 for me, its running a colorado blade and willow blade combo. With the cold temps we’ve had here, I bring it back with a slow retrieve.
It also helps for me to add a trailer. Fluke or creature bait works really well and can get a bigger bite.
@@live2fishofficial Do you play with blade color at all? I feel like my spinners are just way too flashy for how clear the water is.
@@amorton94 yes. I like a blend of silver and gold for muddy water. For clear I like the painted ones, so the have less flash. I also tend to go without a trailer in clear water. The BooYah Pond Magic ones have worked well for me in those conditions. The dirtier the water the larger I tend to present.
@@live2fishofficial Well thanks. I'm going to go buy $20 in spinnerbaits next time I'm at walmart now. 😂
Up here in Montana still on winter/eeeearly spring patterns! At least I’m ahead of the fish this year.
Tim, you've been around Matt too much. "Here's my 5 baits for May"
Proceed to list 17 baits. 😂
Great video!
Morning, you kinda touched on something that has left me scratching my head more then once... water temps and what type of cranbait to tie on whether a flat side or something with more wobble and what temps to really make the switch? ✌🐟💪
Im in north texas been killing it on white chatter bait
Let's go frend
I know it’s posted on literally every other video but I can’t believe you didn’t put rod and reel suggestions!
This question is for the entire tactical bassin group. I love throwing a chatterbait, I'm in Virginia where the water temps are rising. Should i change from the red fire crawl and hog farmer flame thrower trailer to a blue gill or shad color?
What’s ur opinion on googan lures? Just out of curiosity. Great video btw.
Excellent. It's illegal in Ga. to not fish a Fluke during the shad spawn.
The pre spawn has been kicking off up north here full swing. Great info Tim, hows the finger healing up?
I like your fishing partner!
Question, here in NorCal winter has lasted forever. Because of that and how it’s just now warming up, would you focus more on the areas leading into the spawning areas? Thanks
Alternative Title. "I like fishing everything in May."
I want that doggo
Between a curado 301 and a Tranx 201 which reel would you recommend to pair with a 8ft heavy rod to throw a 6 inch magdraft and baitsanity antidote?
Threw a Rainbow Trout S Waver last week on a lake that is constantly high pressure. They stock trout seasonally and it's hard to catch bass out there. I had two bumps and follows by two huge bass that I couldn't believe even lived in that lake but no takers. How do you trigger them at that point? Hell, I even did the Musky figured 8 on em just because they wouldn't stop following it!
Tim what is that spinnerbait rod/reel setup you got going on there?
Thanks Tim ! What’s the pups name ?
I keep waiting for you pup to take a swim.
Please explain the colors you are using. Thank you.
Thanks for this video Tim! I love poppers and have had a lot of success with the River2Sea bubble popper 88 in bluegill. Got my pb (~5 lbs) a couple of years ago and hope to slay them again with it this year
Try the big size of that popper.. you'd be surprised how they eat it! Small bass won't shy away either
100% agree @@andybales7318!
What rod would you use for a 6oz weedless lure?
Your dog is so cute Tim. Is your dog a male or female?
who's the dog?
Try a xzone deception worm on a shaky head
Hey Matt and Tim, I can’t seem to find an 8-9 inch shad profile glide, any recommendations? I’ve watched all of your swim bait videos and can’t seem to find one
Savage gear magnum shine glide...big, shad glide baits
I’m surprised jerk baits like Rapalas aren’t in your arsenal. I’ve got most of my biggest bass on them, especially in Spring.
The good news is we may have ice off tomorrow lol
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved
Did you go slightly Canadian there, eh?!
Top 5. Um, well...Top 7!
This is my version of the "morning news" 😂
More weim please
Thanks Tim, I'm gonna be doing something a little different today and providing YOU with my top 5 baits for the month of May.
1.) Popper
2.) Popper
3.) Popper
4.) Small Popper
5.) Big Popper
If you get out there in May and tie one of these 5 baits on, I guarantee you will catch fish!
Always been my best topwater style! That and a black buzzbait
@@clay7514 Black plopper for me :) and black popper to be fair...
No Fluke?
Is that a weimaraner?
Yes, you could have built a boat, bit look at what you would have missed out on and not learned... This is the AYO version of the Abandoned Mansion... 🍺🎣
So, what are the chances that AFTCO will ever make their shirts in a tall size?
No matter the month....jigs are always a top 5 bait
