  • Ann receives several questions about how to mix, paint, and create with underglaze. This video shows basic mixing, painting, and even spraying underglazes to get you more comfortable with them. Invite the kids over, have an underglaze party and enjoy this video!
    Answers to questions we get all the time:
    We typically bisque to Cone 04 and fire to Cone 5-6
    Ann uses Standard English Porcelain no. 365 unless specified otherwise in the video

    This is such a fantastic outcome. I enjoy the speckle look of the atomizer.
    I like that you call it your nail-art brush. 🤭 I use make-up brushes for a lot of my glaze painting. I've found that they tend to be very flexible, soft, and dense so they pick up and lay down a good amount of glaze and leave less streaks than my fine art brushes.

      Hey Em. Yes, yes. Also the bristles last longer when using such harsh materials plus the bristles stay put in a point longer than fine art brushes. Im with you 🙂

    OMGosh, TY for showing your prep of UG, banding wheel for Atomizer & Your common sense set up for a "Box Theater"as a simple "spraying Booth". I have some Tri- Fold foam board, as you might use for a presentation.( I use that stuff for soo many different purposes- invaluable stuff! for once, I have most of the tools! I have the banding wheel, atomizer, & both green ware & bisque fired pieces to play with. Just need under glazes & vinyl. I'm really excited! just have to make THE TIME

    I was so delighted with this video because I actually purchased an atomizer just like the one you have there. Now I just have to get some appropriate vinyl and buy some under glazes, etc. -- it's always somethin, lol. I'm really looking forward to it. Well and I have to set up my small gas kiln and learn how to do a bisque and a glaze firing but that's another story. Thanks again!

    Such a nice project! I am going to try it! Why do you do a 4 minute hold on the kiln? Thanks for sharing.

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Рік тому +2

      Hi Jan. thanks. Im glad you liked it. You will have fun with this project 🙂. Good questoin about the 4 minute hold. The reason I fire to cone 5 with a 4 minute hold is just from experience with my kiln and the glazes that I use. All of the glazes on the pieces that I ran in that high firing like to be fired higher than cone 5 but there were a couple of glazes that dont quite like cone 6 so I find that programming the kiln to cone 5 and then giving it an extra 4 minute hold seems to be the sweet spot for all the glazes. It is hot enough for all the glazes to do a good melt without any of them running.

    What size atomizer do you have Ann? Looking on Amazon and I found a 300ml which I believe is about 1 cup. Any thoughts?

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Рік тому

      Hey! Great to hear from you. Actually, Jim put a link in the description section under the video....to the atomizer that I used in the video. I cant remember how many mml it holds, but 1 cup seems right. It is not very big. I only spray a few puffs at a time right 🙂

    How do you fire these underglazed pots without the color burning out?

    • @LittleStreetPottery
      @LittleStreetPottery  Рік тому

      Cone 5 - never had a problem with the Amaco colors used burning out. Many of them intensify after firing.

    • @annruel1982
      @annruel1982 Рік тому

      I will add one more thing to that. I advise you to test underglazes at the temperature that you are firing to.Some are better at keeping their colors the higher you go and some are not. Some of the bottles will say that the underglazes can be fired to higher temps. Check the bottles,,,,then test test test. :-). Have fun.
