I can not express how valuable your channel is for me. There are many reasons but, currently, the most helpful content seems to be pattern adjustments regarding the waist/hip proportions. Like you, I am very straight from waist to hips and when my weight fluctuates, I need to add volume in seat area first. My hip measurement is always 1-2 sizes smaller (sometimes more) on a pattern compared to my waist measurement which seems to be atypical. It’s such a small area to have to make significant adjustments. Long rant just to say thank you for the detailed vlogs addressing such pattern adjustments ☺️
Thank you so much for sharing your swelling issues. I also swell up during the day ( I wake up thinner and go to bed super fat). Your hack is so welcome for the elastic in the back.
The nettie pot has changed my life! It can even cure the migraines I get from low barometric pressure. Working on the farm and exposure to so many allergens, it has been my savior! I have mu Celeste dress cut out, need to get that done! Thamks for all the toos for those of is with fluctuating tummy size!
One of the things I do to elastic waists on the back, is to steam the daylights out of it, and make it into mini creases, that lie flatter. Love the shorts, and had forgotten I had the pattern! Time to make some :)
Okay. I'm getting both patterns! Got about 2 yards of black floral woven fabric from a mystery fabric box. Got a blouse pattern picked out. However, right before I cut into the fabric last night, I decided it should be a v-neck dress. And here's my pattern! Got 2 yards orange white plaid cotton/linen blend from hobby lobby during my stress shopping. Thinking about making a couple of outfits for my 2-year-old, but feel the color might be too dark. Got some white sweater knit from a mystery fabric box (yes, I love mystery fabric boxes), and think a pair of orange plaid pants with fitted short sleeve white sweater looks cute. And here's my pants pattern! Sorry for the long comment... I'm just so excited right now!
I have this pattern but haven’t made it yet as I was unsure about the button front. I’m keen to watch your video and make them a zipper front. I use a sinus rinse. Keep your head tipped low over the sink, it’s fine, you’ll get used to it. It’s not pleasant but it helps I think.Mine is a squeeze bottle, it’s over and done with quickly. It’s annoying, I never had problems with sinuses until I moved to NZ.
I hope you enjoy the zipper tutorial! I bought a machine that looks like a water pick for your nose (a newer nettie pot). It was a bit shocking to use it, but I think it’s going to really help!
I love that your sewing makes you so happy, and when you talk about what you’ve done, and talk about your thoughts of your future sewing plans your enthusiasm and happiness bubble out.
That dress looks adorable on you! I really like the fine vertical lines on the fabric too. Naturopath has a soft 'a', like 'cat'.I have a sister-in-law that swears by hers and has really done well. She was the one who told me about the neti pot as I would get all stuffed up from allergies in the early Summer and again in the Fall. Make sure you always add the salt to the warm water as I didn't once and that is an experience I don't want anyone else to have. Burned like hell from the chlorine in our water! It feels very odd, but you will get used to it and I feel very fresh once I've finished. It works for me, just make sure your sinuses are not clogged when you do it. You can trap water in there and that can cause problems. I do it each evening and that way my sinuses don't have time to clog. I wanted to give you a hug when you said the regular Drs. end up telling you it's in your head. You know your body better than anyone else. Just because the Dr. couldn't come up with an answer doesn't mean there isn't one. It just means that Dr. doesn't know the answer. It took me 16 Drs before I found one who did know the answer about my gyn problems. Once the answer was known, my reg. gyn took action and I was better in no-time. Took 10 very long years and alot of pain, to get to the answer. Don't give up. If you need a cheerleader, let me know. SlickandPeggy@sbcglobal.net Hugs OOO
the glissandos fit me nearly perfectly with just a small adjust to the thighs. I have a 10 inch difference between my waist and hip. I love love love love them.
Best part about creating your own clothes is fitting them to your own body! I too am 5’2” and often petite RTW just doesn’t fit. Especially as I age. You’ve convinced me I have to have the Glissando pattern! And I used your affiliate link😊
Loved the dress and the shorts. I’ve been making some changes to a pants pattern I had made. I’m doing better but my energy level just hasn’t bounced back yet. So it’s been slow going. I finally after about 3 days got it finished but then didn’t have enough cheap fabric to make a muslin. So of course hubby has to work and I can’t drive yet. So hopefully tomorrow we are going to go find some cheap fabric so I can test my pattern. I’m 5’2” also and have to shorten things. I’m looking forward to how you do the elastic.
Yes, that first time with the Neti pot can be scary. I swear by mine. I used to have chronic 2x a year bad sinus infections. NOT anymore!! If I even think I'm getting sick I use it. Great idea about the zipper. Now I have to go & watch on LN.
Fab makes, I'm loving my nellie joggers for that flat front with fly elastic back! I think the Glissandos are very like the landers ,but if ididnt have that pattern I'd get them ! Thank you for sharing !
Thanks for talking us through the Glissando pattern (fully belly adjustment may be the thing I need). I got the pattern last year but it sounds like something I should revisit and prioritize making. Great to know there is now info on adding a zipper/elastic, definitely plan to give it a watch ... thx!!
I love the look of the Glissando pants and skirt. I haven't made it up yet. My adjustment are a daunting task. I'm tall and I usually need length adjustments everywhere they can be made. Not knowing what kind of "Nettie pot" you're using, I use the Neilmed bottle and love it. Easy to use, better control and there are premixed saline packets available. Make sure you're using distilled water too. Praying for your good health.🙏
Until you mentioned it, I’d completely forgot how disconcerting it was when I first started using the neti pot. It gets so much easier after you’ve been doing it for a while. As another poster mentioned, it helps if your water is close to body temperature. I hope your doctor appointment went well; having a doctor who you feel is on your side is soooo important! I got a kick out of your comment that pants feel like real pants with a zipper. Until I started sewing the Summer Caye pants recently, I hadn’t worn pants without a zipper for eons, so I totally get where you’re coming from. I’ve made peace with having no zipper, but I also still prefer one.
I bought the Glissando pattern, mainly because of the tutorial on changing the buttons to a zipper. I also have a full belly, so that pattern piece being included was a factor. Thanks for the referral. I did use your link.
Netipot has helped me in the past, too. My tip - sanitize it well between uses - and use warmed water it feels less intense if the temperature is similar to body temp. Hope you feel better soon

I bought a pair of denim bermuda shorts after getting the summer capsule(that I learned about from you, thank you!) and I really like them. Unfortunately after wearing them several times I discovered that they make my lower tummy bloat and get upset. It’s bad enough that I found myself unbuttoning them in the car, so bummed about it!!!! They are not too small but they fit well, I listened to Jennifer on that also.So i’m thinking I will have to stay with all cotton jeans which can be hard to find. So I totally identify with these issues we have and sad that I can only wear them for short errands. Look forward to seeing your next video ❤️
I ordered the pattern! I think button flies are cute, but I always change to zip front because I don't want to try and get unbuttoned when I need to use the restroom!! LOL So, sometimes I put "faux buttonholes on the top flap and just sew some cute buttons on top so it gives that illusion. :+) I am dying to see the shoes that your son made-that is something I've always wanted to try!! :+) I love the "Neti Pot"!! Imagine it in a buffalo plaid over black leggings! I've not made my Glissando pattern yet, if you have larger hips (pear shape) do you do a full belly and a full butt adjustment? Dare I say your sewing mojo is back in full force?
I thought of you as soon as I saw the Celeste being rereleased. I’m so glad you grabbed it. It would make a darling top over leggings! I think doing a full butt adjustment with the full belly could be just the ticket!

Hi again Whitney - I am soooo sorry to bother you about this but I am really at a loss. Like you, I am short (5-2") and my upper hip is larger than my lower hip. I would like to do exactly as you're talking about but not sure what size to choose for my measurements. I definitely want to do the full tummy piece and elastic back. My measurements (like yours) are way different from how LN grades from hip to waist. Can you please tell me which size to cut based on my measurements? Full hip: 36" (size 4) Upper hip: 37" (full belly piece) Waist: 31" (size 12) YIKES!!!! Either lots of grading or doing as you did. I'm happy to do the elastic back and larger band. Can you please tell me which size to cut?
The darts on the back piece are really big which is why I was able to cut a straight 10. Print out the size 4 and measure to see if you can just omit or greatly reduce the darts to fit your waist. I completely omitted my darts and the elastic in the back works like a charm!
@@TomKatStitchery Thank you Whitney. I'm picking up pattern at printer today. I'll measure to see the waist width with and without darts to make sure I can get it over my hips if using this method. I appreciate you so much!
if you ever take the elastic out, take the extra out of the waistband at the center back, the waistband will curve with the darts and it will be comfortable. But I wouldn't bother with it. I have at times just added elastic to the sides and not all the way across the back. Depends how much "give" you need.
I am getting ready to try the glissandos. How high up did the waistband go on you? I usually wear mid rise because fluff where higher waisted pants go. I feel better with non-roll elastic and wearing a belt. I plan on trying without the dart, to start. I just read a review on youtube from a lady about them, and it bothered me. I will also do a zipper fly.
Has it been real hot where you are? It hs been in the 90's and my allergies are going haywire. Some days I feel like I don't want to do anything even though I have some sewing, knitting and crocheting to do. Oh well, I will get them done. I don't have a butt, It's flat as a board.
Thank you so much for sharing the boo boo w your zip guard! NOTE TO SELF > Check that I do it right ... I totally would have made the same mistake. ❤️❤️
Bless you! My sister’s first two were 10# (they were her boys and her third was a petite girl at 9.3# 😂). I was in the delivery room for both boys and it is SO amazing what our bodies can do! Mine were c-section because my son was breach 🙄 so I felt like I missed out on how a awesome these bodies of ours are!
@@TomKatStitchery “Petite girl” made me laugh, because after I tell people that my first was 10 lbs., I refer to my 8 pounder as my petite flower 😂 My first was a C-section, too, but I was able to deliver my second as a VBAC. Yes! The humidity and heat have been awful and it’s been setting my allergies and everything haywire!
@@TomKatStitchery I know what you mean. I am so ready for fall.
Thank you so much for sharing the boo boo w your zip guard! NOTE TO SELF > Check that I do it right ... I totally would have made the same mistake. ❤️❤️
😂 it happens!
Baby #1 was 10 lbs. Baby #2 was 8 lbs. My body did that. My stomach will never be totally flat either, and that’s okay. ❤️
It was different, of course - recovery was quicker - but I had healthy babies in my arms each time, and that’s the goal. I wholeheartedly agree that our bodies are amazing! Much love to you ❤️
Do the glissandos have a straight or contoured waistband?
It’s a contoured waistband.
😀
