Hope you're doing alright over there mate, hopefully won't be too much longer before we can all get out of the house and make some noises in public with these!
While I'm certainly not going to trade in my FM3 for one of these, this is definitely what I will be recommending to people who want to get started with modeling units. I'm glad they finally made something at this price point. It sounds like a clearer, tighter version of the old Line 6 POD units. Celestion IRs are by far my favorites so the fact that comes stock with those is awesome. Looks like it's well built too.
Watching this video again brother. God, it's already been a year.. Amazing.. I love the idea of using this on a pedal board with maybe a few pedals such as delay, etc, and a micropitch by eventide and then going direct.. I really like Boss stuff.. I'm driving myself crazy trying to decide how to put together an ampless board.. 😛. I'm usually not so indecisive. 😛 Option paralysis. Just so much sounds soooo good.. Love that les paul brother! Be well sir!
I use just the IR section of this pedal. I use different preamps and a delay after the unit. I really dig it. The amps in the box are ok, but it really is a high resolution IR machine.
I've had a lot of Boss products over the years. They all seem to translate the tones to the strings really well, better in my opinion than the other modellers. If you get the tones set up correctly they actually feel like playing a tube amp. I just bought a Headrush MX5 but I can see getting this IR200 also. Seems really handy, and sounds great.
@@thenextkurt I jumped in after trying to decide between the Boss Core 1000 and the Pod Go for the last year and a half. This is the perfect in between choice. It does the dual amps and cabs like the Boss, has a good looper and comes with lots of already loaded IR's, and you can load into a patch way more effects than what the Pod Go allows. I was really worried when I first purchased it (the standard presets do not do it justice) and there seems to be no decent reviews out there that make this unit sound good , which is quite disappointing. I'm making my own presets and am constantly surprised at the tones I am getting. On some of the clean tones I'm actually using 2 compressors to get the feel right, but the box has plenty of power to do so and when you get the compression and gains right it feels great under the fingers. As good or better than my Katana 100 Mk2 or my tube amps (which I don't use anymore.) And ... I have not had to crack the manual (that's saying quite a bit because I'm an idiot.) ...if you buy one of these, don't give up on it, it's capable of really great tones with spectacular effects too. It just takes some time. Ask me anything about it, I'll tell you.
@@davidwoods358 wow. Seriously, thank you for taking the time to give a super thoughtful response. I especially like that note of "don't try the presets" because that's what I tell people about the Boss GT-1 and I can save the step of trying a preset when I'm able to demo one. I will for sure think of you if I have any other questions about the MX5, thanks again! Have a good night
Nice demo. I just ordered one. I'm a bit of a Boss / Roland fanatic and love JC amp sounds. I wish someone would post a longer demo of the JC amp sound dialed in with stereo chorus, reverb, and perhaps delay.
Was waiting for another company to do something similar to the Mooer Preamp Live. This seems like it. Compact amp modelers without all the extra effects are great for people that already have a full rig but want some extra amp sounds.
Well, basically for a couple of hundred bucks more you can get the GT1000 core with tons of boss quality effects, many more simulated amps, routing options and also IR loading-all under substantial DSP processing power. Worth taking this into account.
in the amp section I discovered the 'Thru' selection. does that mean I can run lets say a UA pedal thru the 200 and access the cabinets and reverb in it?
Excellent, informative and objective demo as always. Came very close to purchasing either the Iridium or the Walrus alternative (both of which sound good, to be fair), but was really hoping that someone would do a less vintage-centric version. Shame about the lack of sag control from the GT1000, as you say, but it does sound really good in your demo.
3 years have passed since the Boss IR-200 arrived on the market. How does this hold up to newer alternatives like the Neural DSP Nano Cortex? From a gut feeling, I still like the Boss product more. It just works without cell phone app. In a live situation, on a gig, it would be so awkward to fiddle around with the phone to change some settings on the amp.
Great job demoing this!! Like you said it's more then a cab amp modeler. Your a great player too! Also nice guitar collection!! Sometime I want to get a Epiphone explorer like the one you have in the background with the natural finish👍🎸🤘

Oh man! So many reviews fail to demo warm sounds at the edge of breakup! They're either clean af or high gain. Such a bummer. It's such great way to evaluate the nuances of a preamp/gain pedal. Ok, I'm preaching to the converted here. Rant over.
Mid-gain Diamond amp is my go-to sound on the GT. Tons of dynamic range, and I love the way it plays with my (fairly bright) guitars. Cuts through a mix like a knife!
Debating between this and the two notes cab M, does the Boss have a tuner and noise gate? Need an all in one IR loader box to run preamp pedals into. Loved the GT-1000 I had but just had way more than i'd ever need.

I gotta tell ya brotha. I have been using your IR's since I found them a very long time ago and I rarely, if EVER......change them. They just ....."WORK" and I have no other reason to change other than a times when I just want to mess around. Push that record button though, and the IR is always yours.
Is it possible to use it really as a usb soundcard... I mean to playback and record on logic for exemple (and listen everything via the headphone jack)... how is the latency? ... or we can only use it to record from the input jack?
That and the Paul Landers FlyRig is making me more curious about setting up a diy flyrig. My thoughts behind it are analog circuits of what I like, and an IR loader that is switchable so that it can also be used either in front of an amp or in the effects loop.
How well does it take pedals? If you put a fuzz, an overdrive, a distortion, delay, reverb, tremolo... How does it sound? My experience is that at least the fuzz, but also the overdrive and distorsion (such as the RAT) don't sound as good through modellers as through my amp, even recorded.
Really dig this new pedal. My only gripe is a petty one, I hate the ascetic looks of it. I wish it had a color screen like a helix and different paint job. 🤷🏽♂️
Can the amps be bypassed ? Curious is I can run this after a Bulgarian, handmade jcm800 tube preamp pedal I have…..(thinking a direct pedalboard rig using its ir’s)…..?
My only complaint is that it only has a mono input. What about stereo affects pedalboards? You'd need two of them to record, one for each channel. That's a nope from me. Otherwise, great.
US $400 on Reverb on 9/19/2021. Line 6 HX Stomp is roughly $600. Considering the HX Stomp gives you tons more amps and effects, I'm not sure why anyone would buy the Boss over the HX Stomp. YMMV.
Are the 8 amps based on the X model amps from the GT? I like the simplicity... Sadly Boss is not known to release updates for their products.. so what you see is what you get
hey bud, do you teach lessons? You're in Perth, right? I been playing for like 17 years or something but I want to take my game to the next level and you seem like the kinda guy who could help.
one question.. I got a keyboard with midi connections, and want to get an interface to play some vst's with it.. but also want something mainly for recording guitar directly. I've been looking at the Axe I/O with the Amplitude Max but with this being able to be an interface, and having midi connections... Could I connect my keyboard through those and use it as an interface for that as well?
Can you limit the amount of presets to access throughthe switches?? Like, if I found the 2 or 3 sounds I like I can only go through these while gigging?
Great review and some very tasty playing. Now, if I could just get something that would make me play and sound like that? Oh..it's practice isn't it!! How much can I buy a shortcut practice IR, for this Boss IR200 for? Joking aside it sounds fantastic, thanks.
This thing sounds great! Kinda torn between something like this and the POD Go for my live solo gigs. I like the idea of having an all-in-one (less gear to setup and pack up). But this may provide a better sound with some additional effects.
I guess it's just okay but I'd throw down another 600 and get the FM3 but that's just me. After using FAS for so long pretty hard to dig anything else.
I did. LOL. I was still thinking of picking up an OD-200 to have the quick selection of guitar tones separately from the FX. But, it may just be GAS. I've had a lot of GAS lately. LOL
A. Not everyone wants to drop a grand on a modeler. B. Not everyone wants all the built in effects. I personally have looking for something that does modeling, IR loading and has an effects loop so I can use my own external effects and this ticks all the boxes.
Well obviously if you spend a lot more, you can usually get better, but that's missing the point, isn't it? This is a great out-the-box modeler solution in a box. One with less tweaking than most units. It definitely fits a use case. I love my Pod Go, but it takes work to really get to know it and get the most from it.

Yeah they're the GT-1000 amps - no X-Mod is a shame though!
@@LeonTodd why would boss exclude the only thing good about their GT Modellers? :)
hey bud, do you teach lessons? You're in Perth, right? I been playing for like 17 years or something but I want to take my game to the next level and you seem like the kinda guy who could help.
Yep, flick me an email Leontod@gmail.com and we can go from there
Love it
one question..
Maybe if you plug it into the stereo "Return" TRS input to bypass the preamp and then also turning off the IR cab simulation.
You prefer iridium or boss ir 200?
Can you limit the amount of presets to access throughthe switches?? Like, if I found the 2 or 3 sounds I like I can only go through these while gigging?
May I ask how can I switch it off?
New sub. Maybe if you do another IR200 video, could you showcase/demo the FX Loop? Thanks, very nice presentation!
Thanks for the sub!
How is this pedal for going straight to the FOH for ampless stage use?
Should work great!
What is the difference between this and the boss gt100?
Beautiful playing Sir!..Are you tuned down?
Great review and some very tasty playing. Now, if I could just get something that would make me play and sound like that? Oh..it's practice isn't it!!
How much can I buy a shortcut practice IR, for this Boss IR200 for? Joking aside it sounds fantastic, thanks.
This thing sounds great! Kinda torn between something like this and the POD Go for my live solo gigs. I like the idea of having an all-in-one (less gear to setup and pack up). But this may provide a better sound with some additional effects.
Does it take well other pedals in front?
Great demo!
Now... let me go get myself one.
@@JohnPaulSheets if you read my post it said what I would do. I could care less what others want. It's my opinion.
@@r.llynch4124 you mean you couldn't care less. If you're gonna be a douche at least do it right
Well obviously if you spend a lot more, you can usually get better, but that's missing the point, isn't it? This is a great out-the-box modeler solution in a box. One with less tweaking than most units. It definitely fits a use case. I love my Pod Go, but it takes work to really get to know it and get the most from it.
As long as Boss don't release an IR 500 version just after this is available for purchase I will be getting one.
They did already. It’s called a Boss GT-1000 Core.
@@larsc888 No! I forgot about the Gt 1000 Core!
