7:03 For the Waluigi Spitballs, the term spitball is a illegal baseball pitch in which the ball has been changed by applying a foreign substance such as saliva or a type of jell to make ball be pitched in unorthodox way. So essentially it’s a name to play up to Waluigi’s cheating persona with an actual baseball term which is pretty neat.
In Japan, the game released in the west as "Super Mario Bros. 2" was rereleased as "Super Mario USA", so that's probably what the American flag design on the Birdo Bows logo came from, since that team name is given when Birdo has Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad as teammates.
Should’ve been the Bowser Bombshells if they were gonna go with that logo design I think- sounds about the same, has a double meaning, *and* fits with the logo!
From what I understand, the reason why the bowser blue shells logo has a bomb on it is because in the Japanese version, the team name was called the koopa big bangs. I'm guessing the artist was willing to change the name on the logo but too lazy to change the logo to a blue shell instead of a bomb.
It could be a combo of the word "meathead" and a play on "stakeholders". Stakeheads might not have gotten across the meathead part so they pivoted more to something more kids would know what it is(given that unless you know Archie Bunker you probably don't hear meathead thrown around) and made Steakheads which phonetically keeps their joke.
0:20 Wario Greats is to reference to Wario's story mode team being absolutely cracked. Like seriously, all characters on Wario's team are seeing every game in Competitive SMB.
my friends and I used to come up with our own team names (minus the logo of course) for various combos; some of the more notable ones was Yoshi Dino's with dino adjacent characters like Yoshi(s), Birdo, Bowser, Bowser Jr. King K. Rool, the Kritters, etc. Mario Mixers, having a 50/50 mix of hero and villain characters, Jr.s Jokers with characters who like to cause mischief like Bowser Jr, Bowser, Wario, Waluigi, Boo, King Boo, Petey Pirahna and Magikoopas and Luigis Nightmare pairing up Luigi with all the spooky characters like Boo, King Boo, the Dry Bones, and Dark Bones; Less notable was a team just named Mario Bros with Mario, Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, and the Fire, Hammer and Boomerang Bros.
A couple of these look odd because they had to be localized to keep the e for everyone. Luigi Leapers was originally Luigi Partisans, hence the tattered flag Daisy Petals was originally Daisy Venus, hence the clam shells
My favorite team name per captain between Superstar Baseball and Super Sluggers: Mario All-Stars Luigi Knights Peach Dynasties Daisy Queen Bees Yoshi Speed Stars Birdo Models Wario Muscles Waluigi Mystiques DK Wild Ones/Wilds Diddy Red Caps Bowser Flames Jr. Fangs
a lot of the weird name/logo mismatches are a result of the names being changed in the localization! (shoutout to Dinger City for making me aware of a bunch of these) 2:44 - "DK Kongs" is weird because in JP it's literally just "Donkey Kongs." all of DK's team names are just "Donkey [word]" assumedly because just seeing "Donkey" on its own doesn't evoke anything else over there, but would look REALLY weird if they kept it here. 4:18 - "Birdo Bows" in JP is "Catherin USA" as a reference to her debut game being called "Super Mario Bros. USA" in Japan. 4:42 - "Luigi Leapers" was originally the "Luigi Resistance" as a parallel to "Mario All-Stars", being composed of all of the secondary characters and having a second-rate flag to match. honestly a top-5 name, sucks that they changed it. 5:32 - "Peach Roses" in JP is "Peach Rose" which seems like an innocuous change, but it could potentially be a reference to baseball player Pete Rose. 8:22 - "Daisy Petals" logo doesn't really make sense cuz the original name was "Daisy Venus" and was a reference to the Birth of Venus. which i imagine was changed for family-friendly reasons. 8:47 - "Luigi Vacuums" was "Luigi Melodies" which explains the musical theming. not sure what it had to do with Luigi in the first place though. 15:29 - "Peach Dynasties" was even more blatant with its valkyrie theming, being "Peach Valkyries." 18:15 - "Bowser Blue Shells" has no correlation with its logo cuz the original name was "Koopa Big Bangs" which i'm sure plenty of people would want, and also it might be a reference to Bowser's Big Blast from Mario Party? which would be really funny if they changed the reference completely to a different Mario spin-off. there are a few more changes, but these ones are the most notable IMO. great video!
7:20 Waluigi is known for cheating in all of the Mario sports games. In baseball, the infamous pitch pitchers would throw would be the spitball that gave them more grip on the ball while they threw.
While not the most stellar name, the Wario Greats is a reference to how people refer to legends of the game. "Babe Ruth was one of the greats, a legend of the game-" is usually how I hear particularly baseball people describe iconic players. I only ever really hear "one of the greats" in other sports from commentators in clips. Then again, I'm not deep into sports but for a Nintendo emoloyee making these names without a deep wealth of sports knowledge, they would probably land on "Wario Greats" as a play on how Wario views himself and a baseball legends tie in.
Luigi gets the today! But yeah honestly, Luigi has some great team names, wasn't expecting that Luigi Knights and Luigi Mansionees have gotta be my favorite! video!
All but 6 of them are from Superstar Baseball. Each of the 12 captains have 4 unique team names: A common name, a name when most of the team shares the same stats as the captain, a story mode team name, and a rare team name that requires specific characters to make. Only 6 team names from Sluggers were used since the other 6 were names taken from Superstar Baseball.
While I enjoyed how you ranked each team, you should've check out the Superstar Baseball team names in the JAPANESE version first. Some of the team names from Sluggers originated in the Japanese GC version and were changed in the American version. Plus, some team names with weird logo choices (Luigi Vacuums, Daisy Petals, Birdo Bows, etc.) made more sense in Japan (Luigi Harmonies, Daisy Venus, Catherine USA, etc.)
👑Peach Dynasties👑 deserved to be in the Top 3, imo: The color palette is perfect, the wings in combination with the sword and the crown works really well and most importantly: The logo looks cohesive 💞🪽🗡
Diddy Survivors is crazy considering nowadays 💀
I guess that Chapelle show skit came true.
8:02
Diddy Survivors might be the wildest name of them all
.
8:02

It may also be a play on Waluigi Pinball, the Mario Kart track.
Diddy Survivors 💀
The reason why the Yoshi Islanders sounds like a real baseball team name is probably because the New York Islanders are a hockey team.
That makes sense, haha! Thanks for watching!
In Japan, the game released in the west as "Super Mario Bros. 2" was rereleased as "Super Mario USA", so that's probably what the American flag design on the Birdo Bows logo came from, since that team name is given when Birdo has Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Toad as teammates.
Team name creator at Nintendo: I will name the team “Bowser Blue Shells.”
Logo creator at Nintendo: Im gonna pretend like I didn’t hear that.
Should’ve been the Bowser Bombshells if they were gonna go with that logo design I think- sounds about the same, has a double meaning, *and* fits with the logo!

9:50 I’m gonna guess steakheads is something that was lost in translation from Japanese to English. Probably going for meatheads
No, it was originally Wario Muscles in Japan. The overseas versions changed it entirely.

A spitball in baseball refers to when a pitcher would spit on a ball to make it faster. Basically associating Waluigi with cheating

Daisy Team Name in the Top 3 🎉
Daisy had some good names for sure!
spitballs totally makes sense, waluigi would cheat and do anything to win, spitballs are an illegal pitch in baseball
I didn't know most of these existed. I've only played Super Sluggers.
Yeah Superstar Baseball has SO many team names, it was great!
A couple of these look odd because they had to be localized to keep the e for everyone.
Luigi Leapers was originally Luigi Partisans, hence the tattered flag
Daisy Petals was originally Daisy Venus, hence the clam shells
video ! Amazing takes gabe
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video!
great video! One thing I'd be interested in is going into is what players on the team make them have certain names and trying to determine why
You know your baseball career is over when you get transferred to a team called the Jr. Rookies.
Diddy monkeys is wild💀
My favorite team name per captain between Superstar Baseball and Super Sluggers:
Mario All-Stars
Luigi Knights
Peach Dynasties
Daisy Queen Bees
Yoshi Speed Stars
Birdo Models
Wario Muscles
Waluigi Mystiques
DK Wild Ones/Wilds
Diddy Red Caps
Bowser Flames
Jr. Fangs
DK Animals is a reference to the Animal Buddies from DKC
(Diddy) Survivors Ready?... *GO!*
3:06 There's also an explosion- seems to be a reference to Warioware.
Diddy survivors 😳
4:46 Definitely a reference
a lot of the weird name/logo mismatches are a result of the names being changed in the localization! (shoutout to Dinger City for making me aware of a bunch of these)

there are a few more changes, but these ones are the most notable IMO. great video!
8:01 this did not age well
Can you rank mario party games by there rosters
He said he would do it when Jamboree releases
Would love some Mario Strikers Content like sidekicks ranked or something about the team emblems in Charged or specials
7:20 Waluigi is known for cheating in all of the Mario sports games. In baseball, the infamous pitch pitchers would throw would be the spitball that gave them more grip on the ball while they threw.

You did not rank DK Wilds lower than Diddy tails
Diddy got some interesting team names 💀
8:01 HOLY S#!+ ! 😂
Luigi gets the today!
But yeah honestly, Luigi has some great team names, wasn't expecting that
Luigi Knights and Luigi Mansionees have gotta be my favorite!
video!
Thanks for watching, Sparky! I really appreciate it! Luigi came through with some legendary team names!
Didnt even know half these existed
The word “Wario” looks like the logo for Wario Land 2 and 3
Mario All Stars logo goes insane and is prob my favorite. Luigi Mansioneers is super based tho
a lot of teams had different names in the jp version
So these team names are from Mario Superstar baseball, Super Sluggers, the story mode from Superstar baseball and Special lineup teams?
All but 6 of them are from Superstar Baseball. Rank Mario Game Names! Like Dream Team vs Bowsers Inside Story maybe just mainline and non sports spinoffs. Sunshine vs Galaxy and such

I’m sorry, but how do you not get that Waluigi’s Spitball is in correlation with Waluigi’s pinball?
Diddy Survivors 🫠🙃
Hello GWallPro how are you doing today?
Doing well, thank you!
4:25 she
7:21 he
I don't know either, Gabe. It's okay.
Bowser Jr. Rookies are number 1.
7:03 Hawk TuWAH!
Wario Number Ones.
👑Peach Dynasties👑 deserved to be in the Top 3, imo: The color palette is perfect, the wings in combination with the sword and the crown works really well and most importantly: The logo looks cohesive 💞🪽🗡
I mean Top 8 isn't bad either 😂. But I respect it! It is a very strong logo. Thanks for watching!
