I have all of them except for the 30-378. None of them are bad. My 300 Wby Mag pushes a 180 Partition just under 3,300 FPS with Reloader 26 from a 24” barrel. 7mm I have sub 3/4” 3 shot groups at 250 yards shooting factory 175 grain loads. I like the 270 Weatherby Mag a lot. Factory 150’s from a 24” barrel just over 3,200 FPS. Outstanding accuracy. I had Bill Wiseman build my son a 6.5X300 for a USMC retirement present. It is a 26” bull barrel out of 416R SS. The rifle will shoot 130 Swift Scirocco II 5 shot groups into a 1/10” MOA. Pushed these over 3,400 knocking on the door of 3,500.

I wavered between the 6.5 RPM and 6.5-300 for a long time before settling on the RPM. I so loved my 6.5×284 Norma that stepping it up a notch or two seemed a more practical choice. If I need more (not Creedmoor) foot, the 28 Nosler is always at the ready.

Looking at comparable loads, Weatherby has the 140 gr Accubond in the 6.5-300 at 3300 FPS, Nosler has the 140 gr Accubond in the 26 Nosler at 3300 FPS.

@joshlower1 most people don't put more than 30 rounds through their hunting rifle per year. If you use this cartridge for a specific purpose I think it will do the job just fine with no burnt barrels. I hunt with it and it's the most satisfying cartridge I've used. It's like shooting lighting. To each their own 🤷♂️

I like Weatherby, I have a 300 wm and a 340 wm and a 460 wm but that being said I think they are Overrated, I think the Christensen Arms 338 Lapua Magnum is much better after a lot of testing and my 500 Jeffrey is better than my 460 wm and my 300 RUM out does my 300wm and my Lapua Magnum out does them both and my 375 ruger does too.
The same way a 340 Weatherby shoots the same weight bullets as a 300 Weatherby faster. The case is more efficient on larger diameter bullets. A 140 gr 270 bullet is going to be longer than a 140 gr 7mm. The 270 bullet will go into the case farther than a 7mm.

For Mule deer, Antelope, Whitetail Western hunts the 7mm Weatherby Mag is outstanding. I wish Weatherby would step up the ammo options and availability for this round.

Nate, Weatherby should tighten the twist rate on the 7mm Wby rifles and saturate the hell out of the market advertising this round with longer, higher BC bullets and we'll see its popularity skyrocket. Long range, high BC bullets are here to stay.

too hard to get 6.5-300 WBY ammo, what can be done with the gun other than selling it? Dumb question, can a gun smith convert it to a 300 WBY? Not sure 6.5-300WBY has anything over a 300 WBY.
I walked into a small used gun shop in Arkansas and they had several boxes right there. I asked the guy how it got them, and he replied by ordering straight from Weatherby. Said he had no problem keeping it in stock for the last full year! So, I'd call the busier small shops and see if they can order. I nearly ran and bought a 6.5x300, but I just purchased my second 300 in the meat-eaters edition, so next year will the goal.

If you shoot elr get a 28 or 30 inch barrel if you hunt get a 26 with muzzle brake some beautiful if you ridge hunt

If dimensions and case capacities for the .270 and 7mm are essentially the same, why does the 7mm shoot the same weight bullet so much faster?
The same way a 340 Weatherby shoots the same weight bullets as a 300 Weatherby faster. The case is more efficient on larger diameter bullets. A 140 gr 270 bullet is going to be longer than a 140 gr 7mm. The 270 bullet will go into the case farther than a 7mm.
270 WBY IMR handloading guide 130 gr bullet 76 grs of 7828 = 3500 fps . It shoots great in my Ruger no 1. 26 in barrel .

I’ve only really shot the 338-378 WBY, not sure if that really qualifies for “favorite”.
