    True Weatherby aficianados handload. You can increase velocity and improve accuracy for a fraction of the cost of commercially produced ammo. Keep in mind, Weatherby calibers were created as wildcats, not garden variety cartridges. That means they were developed through handloads, testing, and research. That's the true beauty of these rifles and their cartridges. You tailor them to your satisfaction for whatever shooting situation you want to participate in. They aren't for everyone. But those of us who own them, most invested in them years ago. They are the pride of my collection.

      I just bought a Mark V Accumark in .300, just waiting on it. I like the legacy of it, plus I saw it as the perfect caliber for hunting here in California. Unfortunately I don’t reload, hopefully in the next years I’ll get into it… hopefully I can get by with Weatherby ammo….

      @@bustabass9025 definitely… 80 bucks a box 😬 but I’ll use it strictly for hunting so not too bad. And yes, know a guy who reloads his .257 and .300 Weatherby, says one of the hardest part is the investment in equipment… gotta start saving my pennies and learning more about it.

      I’ve got a lefty Mark V 378 Wby Mag with the light barrels they put on them in 1989. The barrel is Magna-Ported but the recoil is insane. It can’t be fired from a bench position unless you have medical insurance lol. It tossed my lead sled around with no weights on it and actually hurt my aching 50+ year old bones.

      Yes I have the synthetic Dangerous game 378:with muzzle brake. Authors and the like say out of all the calibers to review and shoot the 378 is the one they dred. I have a 416. 458:Lott 458 win 375 HH. 475 Linebaugh and 500 Linebaugh and have NO PROBLEMS. THE 454 CASULL I can’t hit the broad side of a barn. So I bought a new 4” because it’s not gonna win. Ha even if I have to shoot only a round a day and I’m 51. To me the 378 is like having that 1970 Chevell with a 454 in the garage nice 👍. My two deer 🦌 guns 22-250 and 378. Yes I’m confused but that’s the beauty of it. Anyway look up Weatherby 378 reviews and you won’t find much and I wonder why. Ha. Enjoy and go pick yours up and say a few words to it and you’ll feel better about everything. So cool have a great day.

He was pretty happy because he’s ok hunting when the adrenaline is going to shoot but off a bench, not so much lol. Wish I had a brake on mine but it’s so pretty and the bluing is like nothing we’ll ever see produced again so threading it is a tough decision.

    Weatherby rifles are the cat's meow. Only people with money own and shoot them. Not just your every day Joe is going to own one. Without that break , you'd sell it quick like. I bought a 10 ga. shotgun , fired it twice and sold it the very next day. At a much reduced price. I miss my Mark 5 257 Weatherby , it has very low recoil and will kill anything that walks. Ammo from Weatherby is like $56.00 You can get one in a Weatherby Vanguard for like $499 anywhere. Mark 5's are like $1500 . I'm eyeballing a 6.5-300 in the First lite , it comes factory Camouflaged and with a factory brake on it. $899. 1000 yard gun. But I may get the 257 again she was a sweet gun. Peace.

      The beauty of having the reach of a great little round like your old 257 Wby is that you can buy the shiniest, glossiest beautiful walnut and blue steel Mark V because you can be so far away the animal will never see you when it drops. If you’re close enough that you need a camo rifle then a 270 Win or 30-06 will kill it.

      Most people like me who also own other rifles, probably won't shoot it more than 400 times. That includes barrel break-in, load development, sight-in, and hunting. Lemme see...if I shoot twenty-five rounds annually (which I don't with any one rifle in my collection) I'm good for sixteen years. Point being, in this configuration it is a hunting round, not a benchrest or competition rifle.
      Incidentally, with proper cleaning, maintenance, and storage, most Weatherby rifles shooting Weatherby calibers yield something closer to 800 rounds, before accuracy loss becomes a noticeable issue. Doing the math that equates to thirty-two years, as described...making your barrel burner argument a non-starter. I bought my first Weatherby Mark V, a .340 Wby in 1992. It still prints one inch groups, zeroed at 200 yards.

    • @14goldmedals
      @14goldmedals 2 роки тому

      Busta Bass I agree. Pure powerhouse hunting rifles get used for one thing which in a stable platform like an Accumark means one to five shots to foul the barrel, check the zero and a couple long shots to be sure. This is only if you spent the time when you first got the rifle to get the proper clicks or holdovers worked out. I’ve been using a 300 RUM since around 2000 or 2001. Basically like hunting with 30-378 and these big 30’s hammer big game. In my collection I have a 378 Wby Mag and believe it or not someone warned me about its’ barrel life lol. Let’s see now, the ammo boxes I have still have elephants printed on them from 1989 pre-tree hugger days when being a man was a good thing. The rifle is also from 1989 with the thinner barrel from that era and the bluing is so incredible it’s art. It hasn’t seen 150 rounds yet.

    • @UI_Shaggy05
      @UI_Shaggy05 3 роки тому

      It's the best sniper round, but it's not very efficient. Don't get me wrong, it's one of the best rounds ever made, but personally, I like 22-250 better. 22-250 is moving about 1,000 feet per second faster than 30-378 Weatherby on average!

    • @14goldmedals
      @14goldmedals 2 роки тому

      Adrien McIntire compare them again, this time use the heavy 22-250 loads for modern fast twist barrels like 80 grain bullets. And use 200-220 grain bullets or choose a 30 cal bullet with a matching BC and compare which holds velocity out to 500-1000 yards. The 30-378 would be a poor sniper round other than in games. Way more efficient rounds exist in 30 cal and if you need that kind of power you’ll step up to a 338 Lapua. I have a 300 RUM and a 338 Lapua. I like the RUM 1200 yards after that I go with the 338 with 300 grain Bergers and it carries power way beyond my skill set. Also $7 a shot means I gotta really want to hit whatever at a mile!
