EP 094 - HAM International Multimode II - C11 Failure ? - VCO Problems.
I bought this radio a while ago, it was listed as faulty with a strange fault , stuck on one frequency.I tested the radio for a long time and did not find a fault.
After a while on the shelf i was using this radio for a different task and a fault appeared. Was this the fault the seller had mentioned ?

C11 prone to failure so I change these on every radio I get in
VCO’s are now the cybernet’s biggest failure so now I swap them out for a microchipz one
Other than those two faults I find them reliable
Monitoring the 10.240 with a counter will show it up when C11 fails

@@MicroChipz I’ve never caught one failing whenever I’ve come across it there either working or suddenly stop nice little video showing how it starts failing

Interesting video, what type of cap did you change it with was polyester?

I had a similar problem with my Jumbo so I completely disabled the PLL reference crystal and oscillator circuit as it was causing interference with the rest of the receiver so I used DDS for the 10.240MHz instead. (Note: mine is a heavily moded Jumbo that does not need the PLL ) I will replace the cap 11 and reinstate it if it works. Thanks for making the video.

Hi mate interesting video, I'm currently trying to get a mk 1 jumbo going waiting for parts but it lost almost all received audio and tx output I suspected audio ic , any advice if the Jumbo will loose tx power if the audio ic is knackered ? Cheers mate.

Audio ic should just cause no audio output . Come join my Facebook group and ask there , many knowledgeable people there .

It is the fault trust me on that, I've had a few fail but the once I had the intermittent fault like yours on a hygain 5.

Its rock solid now .As Andy says changing as a matter of servicing , was nice to catch one failing .
