Thank you!
Ahh, The nostalgia! I remember riding these trains into Philly all the time when I was little! RIP SILVERLINER II AND III 1963-2012
I also rode them when i was a kid! I miss them alot including the old Reading Blueliners. Nowadays i just have my HO scale models of these, the blueliners and the SL-IV's running around my train layout to fondly remember those bygone days. :)
I remember these old cars were called the green rattlers and rattle they did! You bounced around in them and they were noisy as well.
@@WWIIREBEL at the time SEPTA back then the blue lineiners weren't that good back then because there were running late though and after that they have to be retired
I rode the old rail cars before the silver liners!!
Wow, Lydia! That's so cool, I would've loved to experience them myself. Those must be such interesting memories! Thank you for sharing your comment and for checking out my video! 😁
@@TrainiacProductions I rode cars referred to as the green rattlers and rattle they did! They were noisy and bumpy-you really bounced around with in them. I was so glad to see them go and ride the Silverliners.
@@lydiadugan8368 Me too. I remember riding the Rolling Red Wonders in the summer with no A/C and having to wear suits to the office. My dry-cleaning bill could come close to the cost of my train tickets.
Great nostalgia watching these cars run their last!!! RIP Silverliners
Thank you for watching and for the comment, Scott! 😁
@@TrainiacProductions my pleasure😀😀😀♥️♥️♥️
The nice thing about AA-2 horns was how far their note would carry, as in Conshohocken to Springfield, DELCO, on a still summer's night.
I personally attest to this.
I can totally believe that! That's a wonderful memory to have of them. Thanks for checking out my video and for sharing your thoughts!
Excellent video.
Thank you so much, my friend! I sincerely appreciate you checking it out.

RIP Silverliner II: 1963-2012
RIP Silverliner III: 1967-2012
2012 was the Year I was born
Thank you so much for watching! I appreciate it! 😁
Yes, rode them many times over the years. The new silverliner V cars kind of remind me of subway or el cars.
But the best ones were the MP54’s and blueliners - electric railroading at it finest! Transformer vibrating the car during acceleration, contactors clunking, gear whine, and electrical smells through the open winows (no A/C on them, just natural ventilation)
Great production!
Thank you very very much, Earle! I really appreciate it. I hope you're doing well!
When these cars were introduced on the Reading line, passengers could not believe it. Air conditioning, smooth starts and stops, modern interiors…..jaw dropping. Back then, on the Reading, the end cars leaving Philly were non smoking, lead cars smoking. Going into town the first car was non smoking (red card at the ends of the car) or green smoking ok). Bring a non smoker, when you looked in the smoking cars all you could see was a blue fog! Great video.
It's sad to see the sliverliners gone
Fantastic video bro! I miss those old shits, you've got awesome footage of them and that ride down into Woodbourne through the old interlocking at CP Wood is as much a piece of history as those Silverliners are! The Q706 with that GP15-1 and the push pull set with the Comet Is serve as awesome cameos too, good shit all around homie!
2:00 Two types of deceased SEPTA rolling stock alongside each other. Hard to believe how much has changed with SEPTA over the years. You know, the Blueliners and Silverliner IIs and IIIs were retired around the same month 22 years apart. Sad coincidence.
Excellent!!!
Thank you so much, James! I'm glad you liked it!
I want to see scale models of these historic railcars produced.
I have a few of the Silverliners in HO scale. Metal, not plastic. Found them on ebay. Haven't seen any for a couple of years now.
Miss the Wabco AA2 :(
Very cool!
I'm so grateful that I was able to experience these historic trains before they took their final ride, I only wish there was a full unit preserved. I remember the bumpy ride, the "ketchup and mustard" seats, a lot of the cars still had "Pennsylvania" lettering on them, and that horn became such a familiar sound to me, I was sad when one day, I didn't hear it anymore. Simpler times, they were, but I'm glad I still experienced them.
I love wabco aa2
Wonder what it would have cost to buy one in retirement and before the scrap yard.
That's a great question... I wonder, too. Thank you for watching, Paul!
My guess would be they'd probably want something for it and likely a plan for how you would take it. I really think these trains would serve as a good scenic rail car with a company that does train trips. A second might be someone whose creative enough to make a unique home out of it, or if one has a few acres they could preserve it, put it on some tracks and just admire it.
Its really ashame to see these once great MUs just taken to the junkyard to be dismantled.
Do one on the AEM-7!
Did they even plan on saving a set of these
The Silverliner 2's were a last throwback to the real railroads. They actually had 'Reading' and 'Pennsylvania' written on the cars above the windows. And in the Reading at least, they shared the road with the diesel RDC's, also by Budd!
Great video, but you said the Silverliner II’s and III’s were replaced by the V’s. What about the IV’s?
The IVs joined the IIs and IIIs and operated together for decades. The new Vs arrived and replaced the IIs and IIIs. In my opinion, it wouldn't have made sense to say the IVs also replaced the IIs and IIIs.
I see. Ok. BTW, I love your channel!
1xx & 2xx = Ex-PRR
9xxx = Ex-RDG.
What do they have now instead
Ugly
A mixture of Silverliner IV and V cars. The IVs look nice but are pushing 50 years old and becoming maintenance nightmares. The Vs are quiet and comfortable, but they look like overgrown subway cars.
Are there any Silverliner 2/3s still around as preserved units? Great video!
To the best of my knowledge, there's one or two pairs sitting in a SEPTA yard in the Philadelphia vicinity awaiting a home at a museum. I can't remember what museum they're for, or if it's even a done deal or not -- but I do recall seeing that someone laid eyes on the equipment as recently as last month (01/2018). Aside from these cars in question, the remainder (as far as I know) have been scrapped. Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words! Really appreciate it, my friend! :D
Nice video and sound quality! The sound of the horn was distinctive.....
and the units were the last to wear the
Reading and PRR names.....
The Silverliner V's looks like something from the late 70's or 80's though. (Seriously why were they designed that way?) Also the design of Woodbourne station? Like why have those weird concrete slaps on the tracks for people to walk over? Did they seriously not have room for just another platform? American design decisions man. They just don't make sense at all
Hey, you're not wrong! Definitely not the most advanced piece of railroad out there, lol. Thanks for watching, my friend! Hope you enjoyed!
Those slabs are crossings
