Filmed in 1967. The Opera House was opened in 1973. Someday, one day indeed!

"People say you're a Dreamer...what do they know of, what you're thinking"? Perfect lyric at 1:05 with Judith singing solo those words with the visionary Joern Utzon sail design backdrop!!! This song one of my many favourite Seeker songs. Bravo to them!

In the US I didn't realize how many hits they really had. I recall American radio playing Georgie Girl and maybe two others. I am stunned by all this great music.

Judith had the most spectacular female voice I’ve ever heard! I’m 66 years of age! Bernie Western Australia

Absolutely brilliant sound! Thanks for posting. Glad The Seekers survived their walk around a major building site in 1967!

I don't know whose idea it was to shoot this while the Sydney Opera House was still under construction, but what a brilliant and memorable video!
This song is absolutely splendid and I don't remember hearing it over the airwaves.
If only The Seekers had accepted the invitation to perform Georgie Girl at the 39th Academy Awards on April 10, 1967.
Countless millions would have seen them for the first time and definitely wanted more.
The timing was perfect because the song had peaked on the charts on February 1st at #1, but Americans hadn't yet got the chance to see this group on their televisions.
Nobody in America knew what they looked like.
Thousands of American men would have been captivated by the beauty of Judith Durham and many would have pursued her romantically.
And the other missed opportunity was when the Bee Gees wrote the song Massachusetts expressly for The Seekers and their manager turned down the offer without ever telling the group about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The members of the group found this out only years later.
So many songwriters would have written songs for them once they got exposure in the American market.

The Seekers were not able to perform Georgy Girl at the 39th Annual Academy Awards ceremony on April 10, 1967 because the group were contracted to perform a pantomime in Bristol England on that date.
Lousy instincts were playing themselves out at the time by their manager Eddie Jarrett.
He was too UK-centric in his approach to managing The Seekers.
This was one of the big breaks they were sorely in need of at the time.
Recording the song Massachusetts at that time would have been another tremendous shot in the arm.

    • @softclay4thought
      @softclay4thought 10 років тому +2

It is not clear who may have been approached by the Bee Gees to have the Seekers record Massachusetts.
We may never know the exact details as to why the Seekers themselves didn't find out about this until years later.
In retrospect, their manager has been acknowledged as being far too "U.K. centric" when promoting the group and arranging tours for them.
The U.S. market was just waiting for an early and proper introduction.
God knows there were countless millions of Americans who wanted a clean alternative to the mostly psychedelic rubbish that was being shoved down their throats at the time.

In the 60s the Seekers were considered uncool but despite this they notched up many chart successes including a couple of number ones. They transcended cool and Judith's vocals have an effortless quality. I wish her a full recovery from her recent illness.

Song written by Paul Simon. Sounds nothing like his typical of the time, but maybe it's just because the Seekers were performing it. And wonderfully, I might add.

LOL at 0:16 The director really needed to offer more direction than "Try to, uh, look like you're...doing something, I guess. Put your leg up, that always looks self-assured. We'll stitch it together in post, don't worry."

I would agree with you ...... the incredible voice of Judith Durham made her the undoubted star of the group, but the guys played their part too .... the superb blend of voices made this group so popular with their millions of adoring fans.

"what we have lost in the last fifty years" : a perfect comment - I totally agree with you. We've definitively lost style, class and harmony - this all after the '68 revolution!
