I'm glad I was a young boy growing up and had this great music to listen too, three great looking people, Mike Hurst, Dusty, and Tom and great voices, this was quality entertainment not some of the garbage that's offered today
Yes, I feel fortunate to have lived through the 60s, 70s and even 80s when people could sing, compose AND play and not need "autotune" etc. I do feel sorry for kids today.
Well said the garbage that is rolled out today can not even be called music . The magic of this performance comes from 3 x singers, 2 x guitars , 1 x microphone & a heap of talent. No skimpy clothing, dubbing , lip sync , voice over or other mumbo jumbo.. Makes you kinda think doesn't it ?.. Kind thoughts Peggy Wood (Aotearoa)
This is a beautiful song - I have varied tastes, so it's hard to pick a favourite, but Dusty's superb vocals and the superb music make this a winner - it's an absolute gem!
The very first time I heard Dusty take the lead and actually sing solo in parts. Just exquisite how her voice effortlessly reaches those notes. Spine-tingling. A few short years later, she was a solo star in her own right. Ladies and gentlemen, it's Dusty Springfield!
Love this song. After seeing Pulp Fiction and hearing son of a preacher man for the first time I went to The Colony in Times Square and bought a Dusty Springfield greatest hits CD. This was the first song on the CD ( it went in chronological order). It’s important to include great music in a film so people can learn about songs they may not have known otherwise.
During his induction at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cat Stevens said "Island Of Dreams" by the Springfields was one of his favorite songs. So, I came to UA-cam to check it out. Excellent song! Thanks for posting!
It was a very popular song in its day , pleasant and everyone could enjoy it , think on the b side was the Johnson boys , maybe Fontana blue and silver record label ,
'... no need for computers to do voice pitch correction with these guys.' - Though if you look carefully you can see they were miming the studio production.
This song brings back so many memories of when I was still in school and I would go on a once a year trip to Thorpe Park and they would play this by the Tidal Waves and the Stealth ride. Such great times. 😄😄😀😀
The Springfields put Irish singers on the map along with the Batchelor’s although most people thought they were American due to the stage name Springfields. Dusty and brother Tom, real names Mary and Tom O’Brien had fantastic natural singing voices. RIP guys.
Dusty doesn’t look too comfortable during this performance with male voices in each ear. It can be difficult to pitch when in the middle, and we all know how ‘pitch perfect’ she was, and always will be. I loved this song when it was released and still return to it every now and then.
@@ModshackMerlin ... ta ... I knew there was an 'O' in there somewhere. Keep on listening to her songs ... she's one of my absolute favorites singers of all time. P.s. ... do you ride a vespa, or a lambretta ??
Always makes me cry 😢 reminds me so much of my beautiful mummy she died 1965...and as a young kid I remember this beautiful song 🦋🙏🦋
me too...........
So sorry to hear that. I lost my mother when I was only 19 and she was just 50 in 1979.
So sorry for your loss ❤❤❤
Such a young age to lose your Mum, stay strong! 🙏 ❤
Makes me sad too. Reminds me of my gran who sadly passed away years ago.
No autotune, just talent. We were so lucky to live during these times.
This song is beautiful and one of many composed by the very talented Tom Springfield. Rest in peace Tom with your sister.

One of my first faves at age 7 . Dustys solo on the middle eight made my heart melt…

RIP Tom Springfield, thanks for all the great hits!
Didn't know he had died. I'm so sorry. But he would be in his mid 80s. He has left such a legacy of beautiful songs.
Dusty wonderful as always ❤️ ❤❤
Genuinely one of my all time favourite songs. So utterly perfect, a gem of itself that needs no further polish.
I totally agree. This song is beautiful and up there as one of my favorites too.

A young Dusty Springfield in fine voice ...and the harmonies are very pleasing to the ear.
They all harmonized so well. But one can tell that Dusty was evolving, and her voice was so powerful.
This was the biggest selling UK single she ever sang on
So many wonderful songs, Tom Springfield. Remembered today.
The fifth Seeker.
Heard this on the radio the other day and was struck by it's beauty what a tune .
What a beautiful song dont make songs like this anymore brilliant.❤❤
Taking me back to a better time. I think we all knew Dusty was destined for greater things. Lovely song. Thanks for posting
Can you believe it was 60 years ago…unbelievable!

Thanks for sharing Louis! Such a great song!

That's why I'm here!
The Seekers version is amazing. Listen, you won't be disappointed. Judith's voice was sublime.

What an amazing song by such amazing singers with voices of angels
exquisite first bridge. Beautiful melodies. And that drum part just swings 0:50
This was the era of pure talent, no need for computers to do voice pitch correction with these guys.

Marvelous arrangement and an astounding tune.

great song. what a amazing voice she had
Beautiful ❤
Such a beautifull song. Love the harmony singing from Dusty, her brother and the other guy. Hearing it gives me goosebumps. ❤
When I was a child in the early 60s this song for me had a magical feeling. It's still there!

The Springfields were an English group not Irish, and 'Tom' Springfields real name was Dion O'Brien. At least you were right about the Batchelors.
@@Derry_Aire Correct - Dusty was born in Hampstead, not Co Cork!
My favourite song when i was a mere child! ❤
Superb version, no doubt about that.
Beautiful!
What a great track, so melancholy when i was a 16 year old 'innocent' ❤
Dusty was unique even then.
Thanks for the magic polka dots Dusty Springfield.
Video and audio different, but this is the audio I prefer.
Sublime song and harmonies
Never heard this before…..great song
You can tell by the way that she looked at them that she loved and admired her brothers
Kudos also to the Producer/s. Ethereal.
Stay free, Dusty et al. Rab 🍻 😎 🕊
Early Dusty loved her MY ORIGINAL BABY
What a song
Massive song and group singing it
The original singers
Though do listen to The Seekers' version (which Tom approved of - he wrote several songs specifically for them).
FIVE STARS !!!
RIP Tom Springfield
Back when harmonies were heard. It’s virtually nonexistent now.
It's 1963, Dusty is just a kid (minus the heavy eye make-up later) but their talent is superior!
Why did them days have to go so fast.

How is it that the sound systems today are crap compered to this.
Wow
LUVLI Yo TIMELESS
Heaven
She is good
Does anyone know what TV show this was performed on?
What enormous talent and what a horrible time then to be a lesbian. Thanks to them all for such beautiful music left for us all.
she wasnt a lesbian dummy she was married to tom her husband what a dumb thing to say idiot
😊😮🎉❤😢
Ulie O'Connell Massive singer
My Original Baby
Cat Stevens brought me here!
You mean the now deranged one who turned to Islam and supported the Fatwa against Salman Rushdie? Yuck.
back in the day.when people looked NORMAL...
LOL. You made my night. Good looking trio for sure 😊
Nice song. But i prefer the version from the seekers with judith.
that guy behind dusty is goosing her all they way through the song! , bare in mind that the show was live lol
I doubt it would have got him very far anyway.Pretty sure he wasn't her type! haha
What does 'goosing' mean?
@@edward6960 Quite right - Dusty prefered girls!
@Al Kerr You have a heart. I left a comment as well.
Was Rolf Harris even there?
Mary O"Hara at her best. Micheal Parkinson would call this " proper music " in his Barnsley FC accent.
Mary O' Brien actually. She worked in C&A originally and Tom Springfield was her brother Dion.

mitchell definitely no auto running just brilliant voice bags of talent my childhood l was born 1961
Tunningeven sorry unfortunately it cut your first name off l apologise
Mary O'Hara? Oh dear.
Probably the best female singer to ever come from the UK…. Adele doesn’t come close to her
Is mike hurst pinching Dusty,s bottom? I bet he is😂❤
I was 9 when I first heard this. I would sing the chorus when I went to bed.
Dusty, iconic.
😘👍✌👏👏😥💝
