I like both versions. Steven's is a young man's voice, too young for lines in the face, so he's leaning on an almost teen-angst emotion to support the words. Ken's a mature man who's at the age where maybe he's really seen some shit, and the maturity and power come out strong. Both A+.
Ken sings incredibly difficult highs for about 4 minutes, then immediately reverts to his calm and soothing speaking voice, to spend a few minutes teaching. Incredible technical performer and amazing educator!

I've been singing this song for probably like 40 years, high notes and all. To me, the hardest part has always been coming back and singing the two choruses after those high notes. I really wish you would've done that. To me, the control and note placement required to do that is more impressive. But, to each their own. Great job either way.

This is so great! For a few months now, alongside my guitar playing I’ve been trying to pick up singing again after leaving it behind for guitar. In those few months I’ve managed to have performing opportunities at school and outside of school where I sang songs for people. Most of those times people really enjoyed it, but anyways. I’ve been watching your videos recently, and so far you seem like the most reliable person on the internet. Before watching your video on increasing range, I don’t remember being able to go higher than F4 (I had to lower the key to a song which had G4 in it). But now I’m starting to get comfortable with G4, and I’m anticipating to go higher as the time goes on. Thanks so much Ken!

I would have commented sooner than 4 years after you done the song but I just heard it within the last 6 months I just got out of prison in 2019 or December 27th I did a 15 years which I did 5 full in and I was blessed to keep playing drums while I was in there I got to play in three different prison band drums it was awesome to gospel bands in a rock band play rock and blues and then the gospel we played Rockin Blues Gospel we played Ken Tamplin sounds because I hit the band to your music and I said you have to play don't let the sky fall down on me I love that we played for 5 Years song a different band that was handed granite and it's Lexington I'm from Oklahoma by the way well I'm from Nebraska but I live in Oklahoma at the point now I would love to play in a band right now but I don't drink or do drugs so it's kind of hard to play with people that do I've been sober since 1993 all right buddy you're awesome Ken Tamplin in the house

One (like myself), can spend a lifetime building strength, stamina and range.
One thing that is not mechanically trained is soul.
I find the most difficult pieces to sing (and be legit) are things like: Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Al Green and many others.
One can physically train hard and "learn" to sing high.
But one cannot do vocal push-ups and "learn" soul.
This must come from life experiences and the heart.
