I don’t think people realise what it’s like having a baby. You can’t go off for adventures, you aren’t really sleeping and you are supporting your partner, so yeah the channel might feel a bit different. We need to give support, not tear the channel down. Cmon guys.

I think some of it is teasing more than bullying. For the rest, I am assuming it's because the idea of an expensive hairdressers car is not relatable compared to doing up an MX5 or driving a £140 car smelling of dog
I dont think it's necessarily hate, just that the ethos of the channel has been lost slightly.
The channel to many was a breath of fresh air from the expensive and lavish car scene all over youtube and showed that you could enjoy cars without spending 10s of 1,000s of pounds.
It also seemed to reject the idea of the current attitude towards cars (at least in the uk) of "I need to finance a brand new SUV every 3 years", and showed that you could keep older, interesting cars on the road for a similar amount of money.
I appreciate that Alex driving his baby around in an E30 isn't particularly safe and I wouldn't want to do it either.
However, I think that the choice of car clashes with the vibe of rhe channel. There are cars that are cheaper and more practical. Instead, the porche seems to be just another small hatchback on stilts, with the owner giving poor justification to why they need it over the equivalent hatchback.
Ultimately, it's Alex's daily driver that he needs to be suitable for a family. He's no longer in his late 20s and able to piss about with cheap shitboxes. If he feels this was his best choice then it doesn't really matter to anyone except him.
I do however think that it's very naive to upload a video that essentially consists of a "I'm going to a dealers to buy a new flashy car for £30k" to an audience that expect the polar opposite.
I also appreciate that Alex has a lot on his plate right now, and it's harder to do big scale content, but why not do a video on the 8 series he bought from Taylor? Even a video on Rory's Aston Martin? Taylor did a cracking video on his Alpina on the v2 channel, if it was slightly longer and fleshed out it could have been a great v1 video.
Oh common... it's his personal car and he just made a video about it. Ultimately I think, that the so called "ethos" of this channel was carguys having fun and taking us with them on the journey and we love them for their personalities and not because every single car they buy is something that we want to see. Go watch other videos then.

Nothing wrong with your Porsche Duster, a second hand 30k car is way below the sort of things on most car channels. Ignore the slobs hating on it, let them squirm, the 10-30k range is the interesting price point attainable for most people.

I was not aware of any hate towards your daily Macan. But It doesn't surprise me. I really don't have a good opinion about people who drive this kind of cars. To say the least.

a big car makes sense if it's practical in the conditions you're using it:
A Ford Ranger is practical in Texas, not in urban Europe.
An Octavia is practical in Europe.
A Fiat Panda is practical in town.
A Skoda Superb is practical in "country side" europe.
A Macan is not practical anywhere: it's big outside, but small inside, the boot is small, the headroom is small, the legroom and baby-seat-room is small. Buying it because you want it - all fine, but the dad excuse - nah.

Your Skoda superb doesn’t handle like a Porsche though. So much the from people that are clueless
Several Skoda Superb Estate - with 4WD - models have a max towing capacity of 2.2t, and has in fact won 'Towcar of the Year' many times with many different publications (from Practical Caravan to The Caravan & Motorhome Club'). Only Porsche Macans BEFORE 2021 have a 2.4t towing capacity, since then (and current models), have a maximum TC of only 2t. (Incidentally, I drive a 3 litre diesel Audi A6 estate which has a max TC of 2.5t, but then again, Porsche/Audi/Skoda - I don't think VAG care which one we all buy!).

Its very common for people to get salty over someone buying a nice car on UA-cam.
I can get tired of the excess as well in some cases, but you guys are buying up used cars, fixed them up, often sell them on, meaning they dont end up scrapped and wasted, as do many UA-cam channels, I think thats positive. And the Macan should be a pretty good car and you need a safe and reliable car for your little family, thats a nobrainer.

I'm stumped too. I love a Porsche but I live in a place where I'd be worried about scraping the bottom of a 911 or a 718. Panamera is fugly, I don't have the situation to charge a Taycan and the Cayenne looks like Pavarotti on wheels so a Macan makes perfect sense to me.
Agree although the Macan shares the same Cursed Transfer Box as the Cayenne. If you're out of warranty that's £5000+ job and it's been known to fail again even after replacement. Due to the shit design it's subframe down and engine loosened to get the parts free. I speak from First hand experience
In Switzerland, we have "smart motorway" for years and it usually functions really well. Closing lane when there are broken down cars with no problem. It is mstly monitor through cameras. Although, there are SOS zone every few km that is a curve out of the main road.

Fair play I'm thoroughly convinced Alex and Rory actually have work experience in local services.
Although it isn't in Alex's particular style and the whole need a safe daily is abit of an excuse because you can get what you needed with less money but at the end of the day its your money, its your choice and with how hard you'll all work, you deserve a nice daily. Surprised you say there was hate actually, all the comments I've seen are really positive. You've earned it and enjoy to splurge a little on you and your family, it really doesn't matter what anyone else says or thinks. You've also given plenty to the community and your friends coming into the fold, its not as if you've just pocketed it, you've used it to expand and gainfully employ others. Don't see it as bragging or anything, some people just can't be happy for others in their success independent of their own- you can be happy for someone without comparing it to your own standing and being bitter about it. You've brought a lot of laughter and entertainment to many people, I think people are just sour or jealous tbh.

Should be no hate, I daily an C7 RS6 that was bought to tow my MR2 race car. It is big and comfy and most importantly has room for my dog and my family feels safe in it. If you can afford it then why not you have earned it with all the hard work.

To echo what a few others have said, I think the backlash came not so much from the choice of car itself, but the justification for it. Alex chose the Macan far more as a luxury purchase than because it ticked all the boxes the best out of any car, which is perfectly fine, but I think the issue then comes from trying to justify the purchase more as a safe family car, when a modern VW Group Diesel Estate would've fulfilled the family and even towing brief just as well, if not better.

The VW group estates only tow 2 tonnes compared to the 2.4 tonnes of the Porsche which may not sound like much but makes a huge difference. He wanted an SUV for it to be safe to put his family in and he also wanted something fun and fast. Short of a bmw X3/5 M40/50d what else is there that does tick the boxes of fun to drives towed over 2 tonnes and will be safe and reliable for his family. I really really don’t get any of the hate at all, regardless of the reason. He’s worked his ass of for 2+ years building this channel and it’s payed off and he’s been able to afford a lovely car. Smart motorways are the way forward for a country that is running out of money, the UK is bankrupt, and we have a box of plasters trying to keep a sinking ship afloat.
On the topic of smart motorways, they no longer put a Red Cross on lane 1 when there’s a broken down vehicle in an emergency lay-by, instead they put a speed limit such as 40 and the signs tell people to move over but don’t close the lane. This relies on people actually moving over so a recover truck can rejoin the motorway with said broken down vehicle. 🤯
Should have bought a mk1 r5 manual touareg, perfect for towing/offroad and reliabile, decent mpg and great saftey and luxury. and still falls in the shitbox category. but the porche is a great car, just gonna be costly on repairs and maintinance 😅

I’m not a hater of the new car, I did the same when my little one came along. Bit different from a 23 year old Vw t4 transporter to a new t6… it gives me confidence to do more great adventures across the continent… but it isn’t so much fun lol still got the old one though, not giving up on it totally… just like Alex and the T25… enjoy it, Alex, you don’t need to justify it 👍

The cheapest and easiest option for Alex would have been to get an electric car on the business. Instead he has bought an interesting turbo car that should be reliable yet a bit of fun. Please tell Benji to check the engine oil on the MX5 regularly. Higher mileage ones tend to eat oil. I have to do that with my 06 mk3.

Alex, forget the haters and naysayers. As long as someone is buying what they can afford to buy and maintain, then NO-ONE should have to justify the car they want. The whole point of it is it's the car YOU want, not what viewers want. To me, what makes the channel great is it's about buying cars you like, or cars that excite you. Are they cars I want? Not necessarily, but being a petrol head is about the shared love of cars.
Plus, those haters have now slagged you off for finding bargains, for buying cars that are too shit, buying dream cars, doing too much workshop content, not doing enough workshop content and now buying cars that are too new. You'll never win, so make the content that you all enjoy making.

Well suvs tend to have a bit more grunt and obviously 4wd makes it easier plus sq5 has 313hp as minimum so would be the perfect daily for someone that can afford it.

Man, let em be seriously. For 30k there's worse cars that you could've bought, you got something fun, stylish, can tow, extremely safe and for the whole family.
I've been driving an F11 535 for a few years. Let's say you got me to do the timing chain, the car is at 130k. I also have an issue with the Macan but not because I'm jealous. My dissatisfaction comes from is this being a shitbox channel but we now have a Ferrari, a 993 and god knows what else in here (ok, slightly jealous of those two). As you grow it's natural to go in the exotic shitbox direction but that's what Tyler and Tavarish already do. This isn't why I watch this channel though and I don't follow the two aforementioned ones. I want to discover interesting vehicles which I would have taken an interest in my youth. THIS. They don't have to be cheap, I'd have no problem with an NSX, S2000, CRX 1-2nd gen, E39 M5, another E36 M3 (love the Larry Chen series on this), a GTR. All expensive cars but it's not about the price.
To add on this, I feel like Alex's ego has grown a bit out of proportion which is understandable given the success. Nowadays I watch this channel for Tailor mostly, Rory is growing on me. I wish they were given more room to speak. The episode with Taylor and Rory getting a Fiesta ST or Opel OPC (don't remember which one, it was black) was fantastic and felt like the old channel.
Love the podcast today , news for you they're not making anymore smart motorways ! Had the pleasure of being stuck in traffic because of those bollox new "Emergency " bays on the M1 and M5 total bollox just put the Hard shoulder back !

To all the haters out there this channel is here for all of our entertainment, all these guys Alex, Rory, Taylor and the rest of the crew have took a gamble on UA-cam give up their jobs and fair play after all the hard work they are entitled to look after themselves and their families.
First and foremost this is entertainment and these guys have done a tremendous jobs in a short space of time, they have opened up their lives to us the public for our entertainment and for the majority of us subscribers they have become part of our weekly lives.

The problem with McLaren F1 is that it is an icon... and only an icon. I love it but it is 30 years old and is not even in the top 10 fastest production cars nowadays. Another thing is that with modern tunning possibilities, you can make a regular spors car as fast as McLaren F1 for a fraction of its price.

I feel like with the motorway thing there is also blame on just people who use these. Im a delivery driver so motorways are my daily commute. There is always someone doing 60 in the fast lane which then makes you have to speed and undertake. Anyways what im saying is people should be more educated on motorway driving which from experience instructors dont touch on very much.

The Hyuara R is not street legal. It can only be two of these three things and it doesn't feel right scrapping it. They made tons of Porsches and turning one into a Singer is "just" a matter of money. In this context not even that much money. As much as I like Singers work I like the F1 more and I actually think it'd be a better and more practical daily driver and I don't feel like the Singer would be as amazing as the Hyuara R as a weekend toy so the Singer is scrap.

We understand than you want to keep your family safe, and for that a newer car is a good investment, but keep it away of the channel, and do content about old cars, which is what most of your followers want to see. And if you reduce the german car content, which is now way more than 50% of the two channels, would also be greatly appreciated.
