    I saw this movie with my dad when I was 12. It has stayed with me all these years. What wonderful lessons to be learned here. thank you

    I had the opportunity to visit the New York Presbyterian Church in Washington DC, where Dr Marshall was the pastor, what a sacred space it is. This is a fantastic movie!

    Astounding Movie. I would love to a member in a Church, with a pipe organ music, hymns and preaching like this.

      Yes, me too! I cannot stand the current form of worship in churches with rock bands and concert lights. I sing the old hymns at home daily. They mean so much to me.

    Richard said of this scene he had to memorise the whole of this as I think it was done pretty much in one and no one was more relieved when he finished it than him as it was very lengthy but also quite pleased of how it turned out, wonderful actor and such a handsome man.

      I read in Catherine Marshall's book A Man Called Peter that Richard's portrayal of Peter was so intense that the crew on the set had him give full sermons of Peter Marshall because of how "spot on" he was with the real Peter Marshall.

    I came here to hear the hymn at the beginning of the scene (before the clip), but stayed for sermon.
    I loved this actor in Robin Hood and Sword and the Rose.

      Interesting note. Richard Todd served in WWII. Richard Todd actually participated in the real assault on Pegasus Bridge. When he starred in The Longest Day, he played the man who had been his commanding officer and another actor played his younger self.

    Thanks you for this clip. My dad's mom, Ruth VANCE Durham, stayed up until 12:30 am one night to watch the movie years ago. "I cried watching it." she told me.

    I was always looking for an answer to my question. How can I accept death? The day I watched this movie & this part put my mind to rest. I coped with the passing of my parents & brother. Thanks to this movie. Unforgettable.

    As he looked at those fresh young boys being sent across the ocean the next day. The explanations death to those young men was one that I still take solace in.

      I was so impressed with it, l bought 6 DVDs of it online as Christmas presents awhile back.
      Everyone l gave it to enjoyed it.

    I guess I have mixed feelings about this scene. As a child, I saw this movie 68 years ago and was immensely moved by it. As a 75-year-old gay man, I am STILL moved by it, particularly Richard Todd's superb Oscar-worthy performance. As a believer in Jesus' teachings from the Four Gospels, I believe of Christ as a man who walked with all men and women as long as they were good and sincere people...even the ''namby-mambies.''

      Repent of homosexuality for the Bible is very clear that those who practice such sin will not enter the kingdom of heaven. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 KJV

      @@beaglerescue5281 Jesus never mentioned homosexuality in the Four Gospels. Not ONCE. However, he did say, ''Judge not, lest ye be judged'' (Matthew 7:1) so I'd watch it if I were you, Doggie.

      @@williamsnyder5616 Pagans always twist scripture like their father of lies. Jesus is God in the flesh. The Bible is God’s word therefore any scripture condemning homosexuality is from Jesus. I am not judging anyone only revealing what God himself has said. You’re arguing with God not me. You’re in rebellion against God not me. He wants us to have the best possible life and he knows that drunkeness, covetousness, homosexuality, lying, cheating, adultery are harmful lifestyles. These guidelines are for our good and our protection. These negative attributes are from the devil.
      The kindness words Jesus ever spoke were”…unless you repent you will all likewise perish…” This warning is to every person. None are good and deserving. Not one.

      Have you asked Jesus to be your personal Saviour? If so, you'd go to Heaven. That dude quoting Scripture forgot to mention the following verse, which clearly states that Jesus Christ has already washed us of our sins.
      ‭1 Corinthians 6:9-11 KJV‬
      [9] Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, [10] nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
      That being said, your fellowship with God may not be right, if you still live in sin( there are consequences for such behaviour, as I'm sure you're well aware of it), but it has nothing to do with your salvation. If you have yet to ask, I pray that you do so right now.

I am far from a perfect person, especially when my favorite baseball team fails to win in the clutch or when my computer mis-spells a word. But I try to give to those poorer than I and I try to say kind words and smile to other people. And, I try to follow the words Jesus spoke in St.Matthew's Gospel.

      A wonderful movie there's a preacher today by the name of a l s t a i r Begg pronounce alstare not bag beg with the double G he's also Scotsman and let me tell you his sermons are not sugar-coated he packs a wallop in his sermons they are powerful and truthful this man of the cloth is indeed a wonderful pastor most admirable I listen to him every morning at 9:00 on K-Wave this man was born to be a preacher amen

      A marvellous film. Saw it during my college days. Todd's dialogue delivery is impeccable. Please make it available for old timers like us. I am not a Christian. But it is a joy to watch that old classic.

      Read the book only, just now. It has been in the family for yonks. Fascinating, in light of subsequent developments in climate change, what with electric lights blazing. Peter Marshall would be diagnosed with a personality disorder nowadays, what with obsession with color blue and fully cut meat. Leads to his early demise no doubt, but if only he could have lived longer. (Could have given this S.O.B. President Trump a piece of his mind! Lol) Moreover, the postwar years were coming to a close and the 1950s would have sorely missed his messages.

      @@rastrats l'm sure Marshall would've been critical of more in DC than just Trump had he lived. I could list some reasons for Obama and the Dems.
      Look up his sermon, Trial By Fire, it's here on UA-cam, it was in the movie, see if it doesn't fit our country today.
