Cameroon beats Nigeria in the penalty shootouts - Спорт
I remember this day. It was a Sunday. I was 9 years old. I wanted to watch it so bad but had to attend house fellowship. I kept track of how Nigeria was doing by the screams I heard . When Nigeria scored the neighborhood was ecstatic. I knew Nigeria had lost when it was really quiet after house fellowship. It was a great day
That mean your were born 1991
This was a stellar match, great generation of African footballers..
I loved this generation of players from both teams.
As an algerian and a big fan of football I consider this match as the best final of all times. Well done to both nations for this exceptional performance.
The good old days!!!
Life comes at us so fast!
Each year brings us farther from our joyful and innocent youth and closer to the stressful and responsability-burdened adulthood. Only moments like this let us wander away from the harsh realities of this world...
I can't imagine I watched this game 20 years ago..and cried like a baby
Me too .. I watched this in the stadium with my dad ... I was kind of furious with that olodo Tunisian referee Mourad Daami ...
CAMEROON!!!!! I will never forget that day! Good times!!
Nigeria 🇳🇬 won this match but the referee messed things up for us. Thank God for Goal-line technology. I was in Kaduna that year and it was sad to see us lose on our home soil. God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬 God bless Africa 💖
Ikpepa's goal should have been validated ,it was an error due to the lack of VAR
How can you say that
@BasgaHoutoing-th4hv You're right but inexperience also played out on the part of Ikpeba. His reaction shows that he missed the penalty. If he had celebrated it maybe the referee could have awarded the goal after all the ball crossed the line. That was the kind of penalty Zidane scored against Italy in Germany 2006 final and it was awarded as a goal and there was no VAR then but you could see the reaction in Zidane. He was sure he scored the goal.
I was in the stadium live that day watching this game. Lagos fans were devastated that day after the game. It was a great loss. I saw Etoo live then. It was a miracle 😀😀😀😀😀😀😀
cameroon will forever be de best in Africa and will be de first African nation to play de fifa world cup final
Dream On!
05-02-2020 do you want to reconsider what you typed sir?
Not with your current political situation
Not today
despite losing to cameroun, i was so proud of them. those boys were d.best. they had the hunger n desire for the game. unlike the super chickens of.nowadays.
Still remember both teams squads with love from Egypt ❤
Eto‘o, Okocha, Kanu, Geremi, Song, Mboma, Oliseh etc. This game was full of great players
The best African teams ever!...each of those teams could win the world Cup...unfortunately they did not believe in themselves!...
this generation footballers played with passion, zeal and love for their country, its not nowadays football who think football has become a fashion game, jay jay okocha is one xtra ordinary player that worth to be among the ten best players of football history cos he gave all his best weda at clu level or national level. he's just a fantastic african maradonna
Ejike Emmanuel. now it's more about money. there are a lot of players who wouldn't play for their home country team.
You need talent outside all you mentioned.. There has been a nose dive since..
That is true... I agree with you
what about Samuel Etoo fils who is the king of African football
My brother Money is controlling everything now.
I remember being so upset as a kid that Victor Ikpeba's penalty was not counted as a goal. I even cried, lol. I don't think I understood at the time that the keeper should not have moved how he did for Kanu's penalty.
IT WAS PAINFUL FOR EVERY ONE IN UGANDA ESPECIALLY IN THE CAPITAL KAMPALA. biggest supporters for nigeria was uganda because we never saw our team play in the tournament
Meilleure finale de Coupe d'Afrique
MEKKANIMAT MEK31 évidemment
La meilleur était pas en 2002?
Rigobert Song=Legend
I want to sincerely thank Nigeria for gifting us 3 Afcon cups. Love from Cameroon.
@Reply 24Hrs yh Nigeria is a developed country, the last time I checked...

that blind referee didn't see Nigeria penalty shot that crossed the line !! such a mistake !!
I tell u. I watcher this match.. It was shameful officiating. The ball clearly crossed the line.
Even Kanu's penalty should have been retaken because the keeper was off his line.
That decision still infuriates me to this day ... Especially even when I could see that it had clearly crossed the line from where I was sitting in the stadium ...
😢very useless referee indeed
I remember it was one of the best finals ever in nations cup,,though i felt for nigeria,,did the VAR introduced by then VICTOR IKPEBA GOAL Could be okey,,❤❤❤❤ am still a nigerian fan,,all the best nigeria team off all time .
هذا النهائي هو بدون تعقيد اقوى نهائي لكأس أمم إفريقيا على الاطلاق بين أفضل جيلين الكاميرون و نيجيريا. نهائي اسطوري بأتم معنى الكلمة.
Unbelievable match!!!
Best final of all african nation cup.
This game still fills me with raw emotion. Cameroon came to rob us in broad daylight at the National stadium.
The goalie was yards of the line for Kanu miss and Ikpeba's clearly crossed the line.
The closest I came to crying because of football.
Nigeria goal keeper cost nigeria this match outside penalty crossing the line..
I am from Cameroon I confirm this match was not easy.
I cried actually
Dos grandes equipos!!! okocha, oliseh, mboma, etto... great players
i remember this game, i was a little boy back then...remember taxis running riot down the street blaring their horns after we won...good old days these were
Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana etc are all good teams. Their players have done well in Europe and had great careers, but still no African team has won the World Cup. That's what i want to see, an African team win the world cup (especially a Sub-Saharan team) There is no point of the teams fans arguing among themselves.
2019 and I don't know how I found myself here. Good good players.
victor ikpeba penalty kick was A CAPITAL LETTER GOAL
But the nigga should have celebrated his goal not denying himself
On ne parle pas souvent dalioum boukar. Jusqua present nous n'avons pas trouver son remplaçant
Bonfrere's selection was faulty for the match
The attack had no pace. Babangida and/or Aghahowa should have started, considering their exceptional performance in the semis
Imagine the Okocha chance early on, there was no fast striker to back him up.
I agree with you.
While agree with you but I want you to know some games are like that. Those players were introduced in the second half, weren't they. They actually lost because of the controversial penalty decision of the referee. To come back from two goals down against a very formidable Cameroonian side was not easy. When same feature was repeated in 2004, they lost to Nigeria.
@Geobrume.
Thanks for the response.
I remember the match and it's background all too well.
Raphaël Chukwu scored à brillant goal à min to the end of the first half but wasn't even allowed to start the 2nd, showing even Bonfrere knew he got it wrong.
Yes, those 2 players were introduced in the 2nd half and the Eagles were much better, more dynamic.
Case in point, Cameroon played a 3-5-2 formation with Étamé Mayer (later known as Lauren in Arsenal) and Geremi attacking/defending from the right.
When Babangida came in, his pace troubled the Cameroonians so much, Étamé Mayer had to be drafted to the left track him which nullified the Lions as an attacking threat in the right midfield
This was one of the most controversial finals. In the penalty shoot out, the ball was well off the line when Victor Ikpeba took his own but the referee failed to accept it. Super Eagles were robbed
Ikpeba himself messed up by putting his Hands on his head as to say ooh I missed, this singular act also made the officials make their decisions easily. A wise n smart player would have protested to the officials but he didn't.
@@iwunzechukwunonso4898 yes, he mess up, we would have won that cup and even his fellow players didn't protest
@@iwunzechukwunonso4898 it doesn't mean it's the work of the referee to make sure things go in order. Even if they protested the ref won't have given it. Isa hayatou made sure it came to Cameroon. That man is one of the reasons African football is not growing and now we have another stupid South Caf president who is just like Isa Hayatou
Isa hayatou
Always complaining when defeated. CAF is not corrupt like you leaders
Patrick mboma 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cameroon is bigger than Nigeria football wise
Love Cameroun
omo mehn this game brings back so many good memories ... i remember the day i watched this game. it was on a sunday afternoon ... i was in boarding school in ibadan at the time. i almost cried after we were effectively robbed of the shootout.
Robbed? Cameroun won fair and square dominated that game.
If it’s today with VAR, Cameroon definitely won’t win.
Why
It was my first ever afcon i watched
I was 9 and i suppored my nation which is Morocco
But i was a big fan of the Cameroon team
What a lovely days 😢
Men I remembered watching this game at the stadium, it was wonderful game and I remembered Kanu losing a penalty and Daniel Amokachi cursing him out. The guy was so pissed.
Please. Can you remember the female artist that performed at either the opening or closing ceremony? I know Chaka Chaka Performed
The best squad for both teams in Africa football history.
the most beautiful thing about Africa football is the lovely crowds in the stadium
That Ikpeba’s penalty was a goal !
what a goal from Jay jay..damn that guy was the best while he played
Great final :)
Cameroon was one scary team back then, i hated this game so much
The year 2000 CAN's final remains the toughest and the best!
Who's here before Nigeria vs Cameroon in the AFCON last 16
Sean ochaigha . Me
Me 😂
Came in from the future😂… It’s nice beating y’all today
Do realize when we won Nigeria in 2000 we got a title? 😂 😂. Three times. You won cameroon and have no title. Even in the past when Nigeria eliminates Cameroon, Nigeria eventually gets eliminated and leave the tournament with no title. 😂. It feels good to win your strong rival tho. I feel you.
🌚🌚🌚
I’ll be back on Sunday 🙄
Hope you are back.😂😂😂. Only God knows when you will have another title. Congrats tho. It was a tough tournament..
@@yannickndouanla586I’m back 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
It was so sadddd 😅
It shall be well brother. You already have a good team, just a little adjustments. Next afcon no far.
Greatest win in Cameroon football defeating our biggest African rival on home soil, second only to Cameroon vs Argentina
Will never forget this game.
I can still recall. It was on a Sunday.Nigeria leveled back from 2 goals down. The Super Eagles didn't start well and the Nigerian defence struggled with the skills & pace of Mboma & Eto'o.And the Tunisia referee added salt to injury by disallowing Ikpeba's Penalty goal. All these resulted in Nigeria's defeat. It was so painful
من اروع المباريات التي شاهدتها ...تحية من المغرب
I have this full match on VHS, would anyone like me to upload this onto youtube?
jibstar upload please
Thanks sir
Africa foot ball league was something else. Africa 🌍 had to be defined as a football continent at this era
That Okocha's goal was ...., Nigerian football can't get this far again, not the way we are running it, painful, so painful, after that Year Nigeria football was murdered, never to be seen again gloriously
And here we are in 2024!! At the finals again!!!!!!
I miss those days
ذكريات لاتنسى
مباراة مثيرة
انا من محبي منتخب الكاميرون

Even though Cameroon has won the title more times than Nigeria (4 vs 2), Nigeria has shown somewhat of a better performance, reaching the semis every single time since 92, the exception being 96 when they boycotted South Africa.
nice video...big ups nw
watched dis game when i was 7.....still that okocha goal is great
jay jay okocha -- god of football.
If var was around on this match, cameron may not have won coz that penalty by victor ikpaba was a goal
Even Kanu's penalty should have been retaken. The keeper was miles off his line
True I am a Cameroonian and Ikpaba's penalty was a goal. But he deliberately denied himself the goal afyer holding his head he too wasn't sure. Had it been he jubilated, the referee would have had a change of mind. However it was a beautiful game regardless that's the reason why there is VAR today
Cameroon 'supremacy in AFCON
2 out of the 3 games that Cameroon beat Nigeria in the finals were controversial. Ikpebas denied penalty in the above video was clearly a goal. Also in the final of 84, Nigeria opened the score and the clear goal was ruled an offside. I'm paysant but I'm just being objective.
We didn't lose without a fight up Nigeria, congratulations to our brothers Cameroon the game was great♥️
You have said all!...Nigeria and Cameroon eat the same fufu...the same bananas...fried fish...
Wow!Final played by amazing stars.
Ikpeba scored and the linesman said itbwas nit a goal. Too sad! WHAT A CLEAR GOAL.
we need goal line technology and we can also borrow some rules from the NBA but i wonder if fifa is ready for it, cameroon had no business winning that tournament the way they did cos the nigerian ball crossed the goal line but the ref turned a blind eye very unfortunate.
MajorrBison brilliant comment... excellent vision ma guy..even from that time; you saw VAR coming... brilliant...👍🏻
In 1984 it was 3 - 1 for Cameroon. Even if the goal was accepted it would have been 3- 2 for Cameroon. Then in 2000 it was a mistake from the referee and anyone could have won in penalty kicks
Why are Nigerians getting mad for .? Cameroon had more victories over Nigerian and has always dominated them. Cameroon has more world and african titles than Nigeria. Nigeria has never reach World Cup quarter finals which Cameroon was the first african nation to do so . Cameroon as the best strikers of the history of African football like roger milla and Samuel eto'o
Landry Balbin George weah is the greatest African striker ever
And yekini.. Is not
Well said brother. Respect to Nigerian team as well.
@@obinnawilliams9627 no brother... Eto’o presently is
Even without VAR,Ikpeba obviously scored his penalty. That day was Hayatou's birthday and he already demanded for a birthday gift. So,the robbery doesn't come as a surprise but it's so sad for African football.
Naija Okocha goal was the highlight of the final
I remember how I wept like a little baby after Nigeria lost this match
We got robbed.
I had to watch this today we are playing tunisia in 3rd place game in AFCON 2019
Yes please
Best of okocha
@ Landry Balbin well you have to do a little fact checking. Nigeria did beat Cameroon as recently as 2004 in Tunisia at the quarter final. Also back in 92 in Senegal at the third position game. Granted Cameroon has beaten Nigeria at more important games, you can't deny Nigeria their moments. And btw I'm Cameroonian.
Jay jay okocha, is the best👌
Who is here in 2022...i rem as a kid crying for nigeria and mostly wen victor ikpeba's penalty wasnt awarded us in uganda where behind nija that day
le cameroun a tous gagné
allez les lions
Ikpeba himself messed up by putting his Hands on his head as to say ooh I missed, this singular act also made the officials make their decisions easily. A wise n smart player would have protested to the officials but he didn't.
Talents natural talents
this was the last great african cup
@purple883:Are u a Cameroonia?
Ikpeba penalty was a goal, I wish VAR was available then
@Bolzovfire
you're so right
where was the goal line technology to confirm ikpeba's penalty,
By the way Nigeria was the first African team to win the Olympic Football gold in 1996,followed by Cameroun in 2000
U r right but u hve got to giv respect to Cameroon to be the first african team to ever get qualified for quarter finals before Senegal did and Ghana in 2010.
Landry Balbin is that a trophy, this is why Africans are still behind, you advance to quarter finals and semi finals and yet come home without a medal, do you know super eagles played most semi finals in Advance, but sincerely is that a trophy? What is there to boast about, you won't hear countries in the Europe or Americans claiming shits like this
@Jerome Louis don’t worry bro, he’s just trying to digest his jealousy in silence. Don’t worry he will settle once we’ll get that World Cup for the continent
Top level football in Africa
these 2 teamz r da only 2 african teams tht can beat world chapions
Over the years I'm a Cameroon fan from Kenya but Nigeria was robbed in this match.
Un des plus match
Goalkeeper Shuromo was worst than Akpeyi of today. He killed Nigeria in that match, coupled with Ikpeba who was professional in the game but doesn't know when ball passes goal line.
@deepbg1 Nigeria did beat Cameroon in the quarter final of 2004. Also way back in 92 in Senegal, Nigeria beat Cameroon at the 3rd position game.
I really don't know why the coach did not change Kanu Nwankwo, after the first half. He was out of the match, made no impact at all to the match.
What kind of horrible officiating was that?
More like horrible keeping from the Nigerian keeper.. Through his legs..
@bigwilly2k10
lol sweet talk. Meet in you in 2012. ;-)
A bientot le lion.
Love CSI - 7:30
Yeah Yeah good but still we won ...
