Kanu remains the most intelligent player and the player with the most accurate assist in the history of the super eagles. I am not ashamed or afraid to say he remains one of the most intelligent and technical players in the history of football. I took almost an entire day to watch his highlights from his different career clubs , his passes and the way he used to humiliate defenders and goalkeepers more especially goalkeepers was top notch. The only regret l have about Kanu is that prime Kanu could not play with prime Ronaldo R 9 at Inter Milan because of his heart problem. These 2 players in their prime could destroy any World class defender and render a world class goalkeeper to a baby goalkeeper. Kanu had one gift l hardly see in today's players , in a very difficult game he could create a penalty , he did that on numerous occasions with the eagles and his different clubs. Long live Papilo.
Okocha was the engine room of the Super Eagles. Today's cars however have a brain box...that's what Papilo was to the Eagles and all teams he played for. The most skilful and technically gifted striker who ever donned the green n white for Naija. His masterful control and dictation of the rhythm of the attack and dangerous creativity in the bo x is unrivalled in Nigerian soccer history. Up Papillo👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Very apt bro, he caused a lot of penalties when we were young. This caused our elder ones to lie to us that he was “FIFA pikin” and any touch against him in the box was a penalty because of his heart problem. What a shame we believed it hook, line and sinker.😂😂

Kai God!!! Do you know how many times i have searched for this match on UA-cam??? Thank you for uploading it. Mehn so many memories from this match. I just had a flashback to my secondary school days. When Aghahowa tackled that player after the Senegalese player got red carded, we all thought that he was going to be sent off too but luckily he remained on the pitch. We had even lost hope and were about to start trooping out of the school hall when Aghahowa equalized and gave us hope. We almost brought the roof down with our rejoicing only to go behind again in extra time and everyone was angry that 10 men Senegal will knock us out until Kanu won the penalty. When Oruma missed the penalty, everywhere scattered. I think one Snr actually switched off the TV and told everyone to go back to their hostels in annoyance. Mehn... What a day. It's great to relive it. Cheers Sir. God bless you as you keep bringing back these memories for us avid Super Eagles fans. ❤
I have searched for this game for more than 15 years without success happy for the highlights . I was happy for Senegal's victory because I didn't want the super eagles to experience another trauma , nightmare , or even heartbreak from Cameroon that year because they were not fully recovered from what happened to them 2 years earlier at the national stadium in Lagos (2000). I was a huge fan of Jay Jay , Kanu , and Aghahowa. I was surprised not see most of these players at the Korea / Japan 2002 World Cup. Three players were outstanding for the eagles during that 2002 afcon tournament , Kanu , Lawal , and Aghahowa.
I've searched for the highlight of this game countless times.... Apart from the penalty miss, Oruma was fantastic...He came in for Jay Jay and the game changed completely. What a player.
As in, I actually wish Oruma came in this era.. Nigerians apparently didn’t understand the value of his magic back then because of Jay Jay’ skills which had already carried them away..
It was a joy to have 2 central midfielders in national team with almost the same talent , Jay Jay and Oruma u were great teachers in the midfield. Today's squad lacks such players.
I have searched for this game several times. I’m from Ghana but this match has been on my mind for a very long time. Thank God I have the video now to watch

😅you're the reason I sought it out. I planned to buy it much later after seeing it on that website but I probably would've just done Okocha or Kanu highlights. watching the match again was still kinda painful. I'd blocked out that trauma so much I didn't remember the missed penalty until you mentioned it😅
Thanks for uploading this video. We sneaked out of tutorial to watch this game mehn. Very heartbreaking when Oruma missed the pen. Didn’t even know we played most of the game with a man up. Crazy game
This was the match that ended the career of most of the Super Eagles Golden generation at the National Team. What a way to lost the game! Senagal eventually lost the final to Cameroon in a penalty shootout but same year 2002, they (Senagal) made Africans proud at the world cup in Korea/Japan
Wrongly though, because of the shenanigans of FA & poor oversight of the sport ministry. Nigeria didn't have proper replacements for those established players yet dropped them from the team to Korea/Japan world cup...
Im senegalese but this generation of super eagles is without doubt the best generation in the history of african football. Sunday Oliseh, Babaginda, Babayaro, Yekini (rip), Kanu and of the best of best " Sa majesté" Jay jay Augustin Okocha.

This Senegalese team outplayed the Super Eagle's team in that match. It was obvious from the first minute. The team was just playing in the tournament without focus which showed with their various 1-0 unconvincing wins until they melted a formidable team in Senegal., thereby ending Nigeria super golden generation and giving birth to new sets of golden generation for the senegal team.
Rest on Bouba Papa Diop ...he played at craven cottage for a long period and his goal against France at South Korea Japan world cup still resonates my mind. Love from Nigeria🇳🇬
We should have won that game. Senegal was 1 dimensional and a man down and we had the better players. Still pains me that we lost till today. Agahower was that dude back in the early 2000s.
This was the game NFF used as a basis of sacking Shuaibu Amodu even though he had qualified the team for the WC. The same Senegalese team went on to the Qfinals of the same year WC to prove they were a really big team. NFF would not learn from history they keep on getting the timing of coach sacking wrong stating that they are trying to avoid calamity. They repeated the same mistake in 2010 after Ghana knocked Nigeria in the Semifinals of AFCON. The same Ghanaian team almost got to the WC Sfinal. The timing for the sacking of Gernot Rohr follows similar pattern.
Weldon bro kudos, please can you help us find the highlights of Nigeria vs Liberia in both legs of 2002 world cup qualifiers and afcon group game against Nigeria, they were great matches, then Nigeria vs Sierra Leone 2002 world cup qualifiers both legs ,then Nigeria vs Ghana world cup qualifiers both legs for 2002 world cup
@@owoeyeayodeji4654 thanks man. I'm more of a 'Jay-Jay and Kanu' fan than I am a Nigerian football fan. I haven't really watched the Eagles since those 2 retired.
God bless who ever uploaded this. Iv searched for years for it. I almost sent a mail to supersoorts for it .pls can we get the English version. I love the commentary. Its still burned in my memory . " won't you believe it. Won't you belive it.an absolute determined Nigerian Julius Aghahowa. Has done it again. Outrageous. Simply Outrageous. Misunderstanding between keeper and defender......
Omo i am now convinced say na juju /jazz Senegal use win us for this match . This was our best match in the tournament and see how little mistakes cost us .
I cried this day...Nigeria played Senegal hands down. Shorunmu failed us in this match especially that cheap second goal. Okocha didn't play anything that day was substituted for Oruma that day. Oruma's penalty was very good, but Ill luck didn't make it enter. NFF destroyed this good team by disbanding the team which made us have a woeful performance at Kore/Japan World cup.
I must've cried too after hurling much insults. watching the match again now, I think that team was limited by the knowledge of the bench. they were just hurling long balls at Kanu and Julius even after Senegal went a man down.
@@kayvaldo Go watch the full match, Aghahowa got good chances but wasn't clinical enough. Senegal got red card from the first half, one of the reasons why we dominated them. We believed so much in Okocha, who greatly disappointed that day. And also remember, the team had issues with NFF as at then. They disbanded the team after the nations cup
Nigeria only dominated because of the red card we had. But we showed character, scored and held the lead until that silly defending gesture of L. Diatta that let Agaoua level it. Had we been 11 the whole game, you would’ve been thrashed with at least a 2-goal difference. We were on a mission to take our revenge on you after the filthy thing you did to us 2 years before at yours when we were on the verge of beating and eliminating you at home and you (organisers, on purpose for sure) allowed a pitch invasion...I remember there was even a man riding a horse on the pitch. Our captain then, did not want the team to resume the game because of how scandalous the situation was. But as planned, we can guess, the game was continued and the host country could not be eliminated by that "troublesome outsider" ! Well, 2 years later, this did happen in neutral place : merit prevailed !
Sorry for you but this was just a revenche from what you did to us in afcon2000...when the horses were brought inside the pitch bcoz senegal scored. What goes around comes around bro
Nigeria 🇳🇬didn't have a good goalkeeper in 2000 and 2002 ,this shoronmu guy was so confident and thought highly of himself but he was average. The way Nigeria struggle 11 vs 10 against senegal 🇸🇳 makes me wonder if they had gotten over that final lost vs 🇨🇲 2️⃣ yrs before 🤔
With the chances i'm seeing here, Nigeria could have beaten sengal 6-3 in this game. The gulf in class was just too much just that mother luck was not on our side. However, fairplay to senegal too, i would say they hung on for it and probably wanted it more.
😅🤣 You might wanna read this article I came across last week where he explained his side of the story: www.footballlive.ng/how-concussed-goalkeeper-political-interference-crisis-marred-nigerias-afcon-2002-campaign/
Aghahowa nah better striker. We don't value this team then. They are so so good but unlucky to win African nations cup. Agahowa gave it all, the strength is unmatched.
Senegalese were purposeful, but Nigeria never felt the Senegalese could shock them. The game was so intense. That second goal by Senegalese shows Nigeria never really had a world class goalkeeper, poor judgement, positioning and lack of composure. I wept that day , so emotional, my mom begged me to eat i couldn't.
The shot from diao was a scoffed effort..in fairness to ike he was expecting a cleaner hit shot as opposed the bobbled effort that crept into the near post...Garba lawal who was sleeping on the ball & got robbed should be blamed more
Oruma was way better than Jay Jay. Those passes were unbelievable. He understand Aghahowa movement better than Jay Jay and his more forward thinking player who doesn't waste time and movement of his strikers. But so unlucky to bury that penalty.
If Nigeria would have invited in local and football academics they will have many players each years like Brazil do. They have the money and the numbers population wise.
Senegal was playing 10 against 11 since first half. This Senegalese team was beast!

I haven't seen the world cup qualifiers but I recently got hold of the AFCON 2002 game so I'll probably share the highlights soon.
@@kayvaldo thanks so much God bless you I've seen it wow I am impressed boss,I'd love to chat with you on phone as a Nigerian football fan
@@owoeyeayodeji4654 thanks man. I'm more of a 'Jay-Jay and Kanu' fan than I am a Nigerian football fan. I haven't really watched the Eagles since those 2 retired.
I was a kid then..and I still remember all the major event lol...
God bless who ever uploaded this. Iv searched for years for it. I almost sent a mail to supersoorts for it
.pls can we get the English version. I love the commentary. Its still burned in my memory . " won't you believe it. Won't you belive it.an absolute determined Nigerian Julius Aghahowa. Has done it again. Outrageous. Simply Outrageous. Misunderstanding between keeper and defender......
I got the video from someone that collects videos with Italian commentary only
Repose en paix Pape Bouba Diop❤
Senegal will never forget Aghahowa in their football history.
Talk about Passion this is passion!!!
Omo i am now convinced say na juju /jazz Senegal use win us for this match .
This was our best match in the tournament and see how little mistakes cost us .
wilson oruma was highly unlucky
after those 2 wonderful passes(9:09, 9:45) he ended up missing the penalty
My Super Eagles Trauma started with this game. It has never been the same since then
Ike Sorumu made me cry that day 😢
Nigeria 🇳🇬didn't have a good goalkeeper in 2000 and 2002 ,this shoronmu guy was so confident and thought highly of himself but he was average.
No they played 10 against 11 since first half... that Senegalese team totally deserves the win, this Nigeria team was no joke man
Shorunmu wasn’t at his best in 2000 and 2002 AFCON. It cost us so much.
Pape Bouba Diop yalla noko yalla yeureum
Ce jour là nous avons repris notre revanche de la Can de 2000 sur le Nigéria
Nostalgique ❤senegal 🙏♥️
Bilahi 2002 kene monouco fater sounou gayder yi❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Senegal was better than Nigeria because they were 10 against 11 men Nigerias, still they beat Nigeria. Shame!
Shame on you! The same team beat the world champion. That's how good Senegal was
Pregunta el clásico africano es Nigeria -camerun?
Tony Sylva impérial 🥰🥰
Un joueur bon de la tête comme pape bouba Diop le Sénégal n'en aura plus jamais je pense
R .I. P❤DIOP PAPA BOUBA
Anytime i remember this match,i dey swear for shoromu
😅🤣
You might wanna read this article I came across last week where he explained his side of the story: www.footballlive.ng/how-concussed-goalkeeper-political-interference-crisis-marred-nigerias-afcon-2002-campaign/
Silvia was solid in this match
Aghahowa nah better striker. We don't value this team then. They are so so good but unlucky to win African nations cup. Agahowa gave it all, the strength is unmatched.
Senegalese are more tactical than US. We believe more on long range ball than making passes.
I watched this game live. I cried immediately Wilson lost the penalty.
I almost wept my eyes out on this day
I feel sorry for aroma Nigeria player 😢😢😢 16:00
Senegalese were purposeful, but Nigeria never felt the Senegalese could shock them. The game was so intense. That second goal by Senegalese shows Nigeria never really had a world class goalkeeper, poor judgement, positioning and lack of composure. I wept that day , so emotional, my mom begged me to eat i couldn't.
The shot from diao was a scoffed effort..in fairness to ike he was expecting a cleaner hit shot as opposed the bobbled effort that crept into the near post...Garba lawal who was sleeping on the ball & got robbed should be blamed more
@@azunnaashiwe.7479exactly ❤
And this game saw the end of Oliseh at the National team
he actually played in the 3rd place match against Mali: ua-cam.com/video/nXIJAfcIBS4/v-deo.html
I'll never forget this match, my mother 😂😂 anointed our box TV directly when Wilson Oruma was about to take the penalty
😂😂😂😂
Rip Pape Bouba Diop
It was a sad day for me
Do you have full match please?

@@kayvaldo thanks alot my friend
Diatta etait contre nous ce jour là
Bouba has scored all important senegalese goals. Rip Gaïndé
I still don't understand why coach Amodu was sacked and likes of Oliseh and Finidi axed from the team after this match.
When football was still football
Oruma was way better than Jay Jay. Those passes were unbelievable. He understand Aghahowa movement better than Jay Jay and his more forward thinking player who doesn't waste time and movement of his strikers. But so unlucky to bury that penalty.
It was a painful match for Nigerians😂
If Nigeria would have invited in local and football academics they will have many players each years like Brazil do. They have the money and the numbers population wise.
Think you Sénégal
Nah that's funny Okocha and I both hit the post when we used our right foot
Senegal is always a pain to Nigeria.
Quel match de tony sylva
I think the 2002 generation got the highest mental than any other generation in Senegal
Lamine Diatta a été catastrophique sur ce match. Un but encaissé et un penalty concédé totalement de sa faute.
On avait battu le Nigeria à 10 contre 11
Wilson Oruma missed that penalty kick, really disappointed.
That Aghahowa challenge should’ve been a red card
Nigerians should leave Yakubu Ayigbeni alone and rather focus their fire on Oruma 😂😂😂😂😂
