As a South African ,even I can admit that Nigeria totally outplayed South Africa. And this waa when South Africa was at its peak . But this Naija team had sick talent for sure.
This win was special because the South Africans were meeting Nigeria for the first or second time ever and there was a talk for the struggle for the heart of Africa. Nigeria established its dominance in African football many years ago.

I love the swagger and exhuberance and all out attacking of the African teams. No feeling each other out by passing a millions times in midfield and passing to the keeper to pad out passing percentage statistics. Playing off the cuff and improvisations, just like the old classic Brazilian teams. Now watching Brazil bores everyone to sleep. I think its time that an African team wins the World Cup. Nigeria(1994-1998) and Ivory Coast(2006-2010) certainly had the teams to do it but fell short unfortunately. I think Cameroun and Senegal, Ghana teams were a step below. Maybe a good Semi final teams.
For me, 2 teams in africa could have won the world cup. Nigeria in 1994 (in 1998 they were strong but not as serious as in 1994) and Cameroon of 2002 (FECAFOOT finished them with a lot of stopover, money not given to players. When they arrived, they were so tired and angry against FECAFOOT). The 2 best African teams in history. I missed them so much. Cameroon of 1990 was very strong too but referee gave a lot of yellow cards and finished this team in 1/4 final against England (2nd penalty was a mistake by referee).
I wish, I wish time can be reversed am a Kenyan but look at the Nigerian fans they had so much hope with the squad. It's the team I was so much proud of Okocha my man, and whole team I will always live to remember you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
@@thembelanimngcutsha4168 Only Dumisa Ngobe and Shoes Moshoeu and Mkhalele were trying . As for Bartlett and Nomvethe ,lets face it ; the Nigerian defence was just damn good. ...small boys Bafana Bafana. The only time South Africa managed to win the AFCON title was when Nigeria decided not to show up in SA to defend its title. Go figure. Oh, and when we finally did decide to show up on your turf in 2013, guess what happened? Yes, we promptly won another AFCON trophy. Did I mention it was on your turf? As usual, South Africa got dumped out long before things got serious. Small boys trying to walk like men.
The current Nigerian team can surpass what these great players achieved if they are not interrupted by football politics. All the best to the Super Eagles in the 2018 World Cup. South Africa wont qualify as usual.
Also South Africa using the 3-5-2 formation against Nigeria was admirable but foolish especially when you consider the fact that Nigeria had deadly wingers like Babangida and Finidi George. Look at the amount of room Babangida had when he scored the first goal . Simply because Helman didnt track back .
The tactic that finished the South Africans in that game was their fixation on Chukwu Ndukwe, not a regular in the Nigerian team then, but the deadliest striker in the South African League as at then. It was the opening that overmanning of Chukwu Ndukwu by the Southies provided that Tijani Babangida, a full right winger just like Finidi, was brought in to explore with his better pace. And it worked as planned, making the rest a sweet history. I miss all of these heroes.

This was wen evil politicians have not brought about tribe and religion to divide us. We all just wanted to enjoy good football as a Nigerian not as a Yoruba, Igbo, bini etc
I like watching this teams. However, I believe 3.5.2 wasn't favorable to SA team. ISSA was not pushing forward, and it was creating the Gap between defense and defensive middlefilders. Yet KANU was leaving them alone to collect.

England shines when playing unrated teams such as Moldova or some unknown quantity in one of their numerous friendlies and their football is not technical compared to Nigeria's so let's not make unnecessary comparison. You can tell the level of international soccer exposure in Babaginda with those goals

placement vs just kicking the ball
Our man of the match is Celestine Babayaro
