    That shot is spectacular but I really wish they spent more time showing more great photos instead of pictures of people looking up, we get it, that's where you look to see the eclipse now lets have some other photos like you lead into the story with.
    That said I saw the one in 2017 because it was a driveable distance away (and I didn't have to work), and while it was one of those coolest things I've seen, I didn't exactly feel the sense of connection to everyone else who saw it.

    can one explain why the moon is not visible before and after the eclipse?. One should be able to see at least a white shadow.

    • @MariaMartinez-researcher
      @MariaMartinez-researcher Місяць тому +2

      You cannot see it *every month* when it is in its "new Moon" phase, and every eclipse happens in that phase, always. Try this: you just go out and look at the sky every night until you locate the moon. Keep doing it. In the course of a month, you'll notice that every time it will be out about one hour later than the previous one, that its shape changes according to how much of it is illuminated by the Sun - and that you cannot see the part in shadows, ever. You'll notice that at some points of the month the Moon is out by day, but only a sliver of it is barely visible.
      When the Moon is in its full "new Moon" phase, it is out by day. We cannot see it at all because its shadowed side, the one pointing at our side in that moment, is invisible for us in the flood of light the Sun gives. The only times we can see the Moon is there at that time is precisely when there are eclipses (partial or total), because it gets in the way of the Sun's light.
      Moreover, the Moon's movement we see every night and every eclipse is mostly Earth's rotation, our movement rotating around ourselves, because we take just 24 hours turning to have days and nights, whereas the Moon takes about 29 days for giving a turn around us - that's why a full Moon or a crescent/gibbous, etc., lasts the whole night.
      I highly recommend you to check "phases of the Moon" and everything about how the Moon moves in Wikipedia and videos. Indeed, 3D pictures and models are way easier to understand than a text. Good luck. ✌🌚
