04:02 Nice. That's the gray color that I look for. Too bad it wasn't a bigger branch. Do us a favor next time and scratch into it with your knife so we can see the color. 👍🔪 Great to see you found another awesome specimen to take home. You must have prayed to the fatwood Gods once again. I'm going to try that on my next fatwood hunt.
Excellent advice, also if it were cut down a long time ago the trunk left above ground would also be infused with tons of sap/ terpene/ fatwood. Thanks for the adventure my friend
that's a nice piece. im gonna have to remember that root system tip. ive found fatwood in roots but never thought to look for a smaller tree sharing roots like that. thanks. personally id have left the bark on till i was ready to use it so it doesn't get all sticky and the bark with the resinous bits attached would probably make good tinder anyway. thanks again
I live in the norther part of the us.(mn).not many natural pine forests but state forests some have super large.like 2700 acre pine plantations.what would be some tips for find the right kind of dead trees and the riggt amount of dead lol.really want to find some but not many pine trees around but large state forest/plantations
Looks like you have a good amount of pines in that state forest area. Hopefully its not to far from you. Red Pine Trees seem to have the best fatwood. The trick is to be able to identify a red pine tree both dead, and alive. Check out this link for identifying plants.usda.gov/DocumentLibrary/factsheet/pdf/fs_pire.pdf I would recommend getting yourself a hatchet and just chop around at the dead branches from those red pines. I hope this helps! Thanks for watching!!!
Honestly it depends where you are. Even though I’m cutting a dead tree, I wouldn’t do something like this at a public park, or highly regulated state park for that matter. Be sure to check local rules and regulations
@@mountainbond1743 Navy was my first guess, but you looked like you could hold your own well with the Army, too, so wasn't certain between the two. I was Navy (Nuc ET), same for my father and step-father too (MS and BT/MM), with several family in other branches. Found your video while looking for videos about fatwood. Good video. Planning to come back later to see what other videos you have. :)
@@busimagen Ive gotten that a lot haha. Nice!!! It's always great to meet fellow veterans. Im glad you found my video and I hope you found it helpful Thanks for stopping by!!🙌

Thank you for your advice! I'll most certainly do that next time! I always pay respects to the fatwood gods lol. Thank you for watching!!
The piece you found is better than any piece of fatwood I can find in and around Québec city!
Great looking piece of fatwood. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!!

I live in the Great Plains. Not a lot of pine forests around. 😶😶😶
Hey...my neighbor has a pine tree in their yard....😮
Ahhh bummer! Hopefully your cool with your neighbor lol
Try searching at rest stops if your neighbor doesn't want to share. Sometimes the landscapers leave little nubs on the pines.
Good info brother.😝👊
Is this legal?

That looked public to me.
Definitely well traveled.
This guy looks very Army or Navy.
I was Navy (at the time of this video!) Great eyes!! Thank you for watching 🙌
