Hey, that pipe was making gurgling sounds but I didn't see any bubbles coming out. There's only one kind of pipe I know of that does that! Happy to hear the news. When I backed the project I was fully prepared for all the delays that can occur when taking on something like this. I'd rather have a better product later than an inferior product sooner.
No, it's cost. It's about the return vs investment. CBS threw 12 million dollars at remastering TNG, and it wasn't a financial success (or successful enough) when sold on blu ray. This is why DS9 never went into production on a remaster. Robert Meyer Burnett discussed this at length in an interview.
Its a shame. I didnt even know about this. I missed out on something that would have been so great to see. I am so dissapointed that I was not able to see this. And even though, I wasnt able too, I would like to thank you for putting it all together for the fans that were in the know. Who contributed. I would have. But you know how the saying goes. All good things....
I totally understand about the delays and I'm willing to wait longer...but what about the other perks? I have a poster and stuff coming and this completed funding ages ago. When will those backer rewards ship out?
@@jivebunny3765 I don't know what exactly you've seen, because only 2 samples have been released - One very short clip from "Badda Bing, Badda Bang", in an update video to backers, and a single clip from [title redacted] at one of the live premieres. So stop spreading FUD. Their last update said that they had requested ~400 reels of the existing film to up-scale, but had only received ~300. Then after they get them, they take time to process. This stuff is not "internet fast", you know. That, and actual distribution agreements take time, though thankfully it sounds like they have that part done.
@@jivebunny3765 From the clips they have released, as mentioned by @SweetBearCub, it certainly is an improvement but is not TNG Blu-Ray Remaster quality....yet.
@@batkinson001 DS9 was all shot using the same soft focus that plagued TNG from about season 4 onwards. DS9 was always far murkier and darker than TNG in terms of its colour palette, and at the moment, that seems to be counting against a decent quality remaster, unless of course what we've seen so far is being done by amateurs and not the sort of professional outfit that did TNG (season 2 excluded which remains an appalling mess as that was done by an outside contractor and not CBS in house). The Badda Bing Badda Bang clip is just plain nasty, and while there's improvement, it's nowhere near the required quality. But this is all moot, since the show will never get a full remaster.
Convince CBS to do a 4K HDR remaster. Suggest them a crowdfunding as well. Even though not as convenient, I still prefer physical media. Nobody can terminates licenses on that and I can use them whenever I've got the around
"Can't say anything about it yet", which is code for "we have no fucking idea when the people who paid for this the best part of 2 years ago are actually going to see it".
Nah, it's code for "we have a pretty good idea but don't want to break a promise if we run into unexpected issues" In an age where unfinished games are released then patched over the course of a year to bring them to where they should have been on day one, I appreciate them taking their time, no matter how much of my money they have.
So I've been a low-level assistant with a couple of crowdfunded indie docs, and probably there's a lot of negotiating with the distributor right now as to how they can fulfill a promise that the distributor doesn't feel comfortable actually fulfilling. I saw a doc that promised "you will have a digital download" get the compromise of "here is your code to add 'ownership' of the title to your account on a major streaming platform. You can even install their desktop app and download and play the movie through it." It's a pretty locked-down form of DRM, but it was the most accessible option the distributor was willing to allow that technically fulfilled the promise. Then there's the other doc that got a distributor, but the distributor doesn't seem to be able to sell it because its subject matter was already past its freshness date when the movie was completed, and as long as it's unreleased, the backers can't have it... But that's clearly not going to be the case here.
@Groove Mistress - I've seen it - twice - both times on a huge screen. Believe me - the remastered clips look stunning. There are clips that exist on youtube already that show the CGI remastering - damn it looks fine. Have faith - that Blu-Ray will come and you will enjoy.

Good luck to you guys! Looking forward for anything DS9. All the best from Germany.
DS9 as a whole remastered... it may as well get done now, or at least most of it... the rest is just formality

Yeah, he said DS9 would cost way more as a lot of VFX would have to be remade from scratch. Hope it does happen though.

There's always hope. DS9 deserves it.

Agree. DS9 is my fave show and has been since it aired in the 90's. I absolutely would have contributed but I missed the boat.
@@vaskylark Maybe just maybe one day they will make a Blu-ray of the documentary. Or strem it

Good news but I am Waiting for my indiegogo backed bluray to ship.
You'll be lucky. And from what I've seen of the moving remastered HD footage, it's simply not up to scratch.

An interesting strategy but that depends on how Shout handle the distribution.

I would love to see this Documentary on the big screen.
I always though they don't remaster DS9 cause they ruined the negative with shitty lighting at certain dark moments. So glad I'm wrong
Does the early access include those who missed the Indigogo campaign but contributed after via the website? Please?

Do the whole series !!! PLZZZ CBS
I want a poster with my name on it. I think I only ordered the DVD/BlueRay set and put my name in the credits.
