Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Sega Master System completed with all emeralds. Unlike many Sonic games, acquiring emeralds is done within normal stages rather than
bonus levels, and getting all of them allows you to play the true final level.
Trivia: This game slightly predates the Mega Drive/Genesis version ( tasvideos.org/... ), so it features the official first appearance of Sonic's flying mutant fox friend, Tails ( tasvideos.org/... ).

@@nelsonreyes-alvarez605 Sonic 1 for Game Gear does the same thing. The absurdly high time bonus is given if the player completes the given level in 0:20 or less.

This is an absolute masterpiece in the SMS with the smoothest scrolling and without sprite-flickering!
I like the old GG Sonic games, yet my first experience was Triple Trouble and it was very hard to go back and play the previous ones. I like that in Sonic Adventure DX Director's Cut there's a hidden multiplayer for the GG games, a good new way to experience those good old games.
The master system/GG Sonic games are hard because the view distance is so goddamn tiny, you can’t see more than 5 feet in front of you.
@@Gotmilk0112 View of distance is not a huge problem on Master System, just on Game Gear.
The real issue are frame rate and input latency.
@@Gotmilk0112 yup. It's especially bad on Green Hills Act 3. The entire act is basically blind jumps. The Master System version is too easy in comparison haha
@@millrrs I think the number one thing that makes them so hard is the ringless boss fights.
See my first experience with GG game especially this one was on Sega Gems Collections on GameCube. I actually hated this game to a degree but i saw sonic triple trouble on the same Collection i praised that they finally got a normal some what sonic game with the limitations. Gems Collections has this museum feature where after literally hundreds of hours and achievements you can unlock past sonic games but with an objective to beat the final boss under an hour and after you beat the final boss you can still play the entire game but only with the allocated time you had. I found GG sonic the hedgehog, one hour to beat the final boss then after that 8 speedrun as much as i could to get to see other levels before the game booted you back to the museum. Fun times, i spedrun some many final bosses lmao
I could never understand why Robotnik saved Sonic from lava before the first boss...
I always liked to think that it was Eggman being proud and putting the rules of the game above actually killing Sonic. "NO NO NO! You're not going to die by falling in lava like a chump, you're going to die by BEING KILLED BY MY ROBOTS!"

It turns out there's a _very_ rare glitch that can occur where Robotnik gets caught in the wall for a few moments, preventing him from catching you in time and costing you a life

Late reply, but it's because the game's story assumes you already have the first Chaos Emerald, which Robotnik wants. He 'saves' Sonic so he can beat him in the boss fight and safely retrieve the emerald, without risking it being damaged in the lava or enduring the difficulty of trying to retrieve it from there.
I still think the Game Gear version had the better boss theme, a remix of Metallic Madness.

@nelsonreyes-alvarez605 Technically, yes. It's just that I'm more used to seeing a game over screen when I lose a game.
The Game Over track is so dark and creepy, even at its best ending. It makes the listener feel no matter which choice they make, its all going to end the same way.

It was something really bizarre and unintuitive like pressing left and up. Been a long time since I played but it was really weird and I couldn’t use it properly either

Maybe Eggman though leaving Sonic Fall into the lava would be too boring.

I remember first playing this, at the end of the Underground Zone boss, after being astonished seeing Eggman saving Sonic, I remained still and alert when the flying container apperared, because I thought it was a second boss. It took me some seconds to note it won't move.

wester's speedrun uses in-game times (i.e. clock stops when the timer stops and doesn't take account of score tallies, level intros). If that's done here this run is 12:31.

Yeah the last, one. How in the word did they do it so that there was no lightning or those balls that normally come out
I don't know why, but if you manage to beat an act in 20 seconds or less, the game gives you an absurdly high time bonus. Same applies to the Game Gear version of Sonic 1. I don't know anyone who would ever encounter this in normal gameplay though.

I remember playing this on game gear but the speaker pitch depth was deeper by a whole note.
I do wonder what it would be like if this was on genesis or even the saturn instead. Would it have been easier or just the same ?
