I feel like with every Ed Greenwood video I have been allowed passage deep into the Candlekeep Library and have stumbled upon a dusty mysterious tome. Thanks Ed & Ivan!
I recommend the tamarind sauce. Especially if you don't have time to fry the tentacles. If you're in a REAL hurry, just sever them and jar and pickle them later, to cut down on the rubbery chewiness.
Heh. I wrote a short story about them back before D&D existed, in which the lord of a city-state wanted to hire them to crush a rival city lord (with city, of course), and the head of the Fist snorted, "You can't afford us."
35 years ago i entered into Forgotten Realms for the first time. Docking in the port of Phlan with my C-64 as a new adventurer. Its been long journey and wonderful adventure to reach this point and meet the creator of this amazing world. Thank you Mr. Greenwood.
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 are my all time favorite videos games. They introduced me to the Forgotten Realms over 20 years ago and I am fascinated by this world ever since. I've played the early access of BG3 a few times and can't wait for it's full release. I'm so hyped to walk through Baldur's Gate presented in modern graphics, soon. 😍 Fortunately you can't smell video games (yet)... 😅 Thank you so much Ed for creating this world. And now I'm venturing forth to Wolfheart.
So, so true. Mr Greenwood is a true master at his craft. And wizards is no longer interested in what they make but what they charge you for what they make. I feel so bad for the creators at wizards who still have passion for what they offer to players.
Old El found our realm sphere long ago in the pages of Dragon Magazine and often visited to discuss (in a neutral territory) goings on. And was joined by some other ... lesser? (chuckle)... well-known mages as well.
Do you have a favorite utility spell? Perhaps something that makes everyday life in the Realms easier? Did you make it yourself? Don't forget to download Sarphoon's Seaspell for free on my Patreon! :} www.patreon.com/posts/82878148
Hmmm i do actually Dream Knife : a Knife build from energy of plane of dreams. The Knife changes element or dmg type to weakness of the target. If the target has no weakness then it does normal slashing dmg. Concentration I have other fun spells too.. Most of them are draws power from plane of dreams
oh, that's an easy, mighty fortress, there's also Galder's tower, basically a 3rd level spell that lat's you summon a 2 story tower. I did some math and by the time you reach 13th level, when you can cast mighty fortress you would be able to cast Galder's tower 9 times using all your spells slots, so in about a day a wizard could make a full village with a castle. and then it becomes permanent in a year. one goal I have is to play a wizard who is an architect who spends their days basically making affordable housing fro the homeless.
I always have at least one spellcaster in a community that offers Gentle Repose as a paid service. For instance, in the newly re-established Phandalin, Sister Garaele of Tymora is the only priest and gives reasonable prices for putting miners to rest or prepping their bodies for a trip to Neverwinter's Kelemvorites (or so I detailed at the table)
The too salty food that makes you want to try a plethora of drinks, the singing elf that haunts the Inn, the petrified beholder above the mantle... Elfsong Tavern will always be why I visit Wyrm's Crossing in Baldur's Gate. No matter which character I'm playing, I'll be there.
As a person starting their first adventure in the forgotten realms, these videos are an endless wealth of knowledge. Thank you to the two on-screen for your time and effort, and to the ones behind the scenes (whomever they may be) for the work they have put in.

Great scribe of the Realms, please bring back Elminster. Thank you for all the hard work and passion you invested on this gorgeous world. Thank you Ed, greatest fantasy writer of all time!
Whoa! Steady on! Greatest? With Terry Pratchett and Professor Tolkien and Guy Kay and...and... That's a crown I don't deserve. But thank you for the kind words, and I still work on the Realms every day and intend to go right on doing that while I still have any days left. As for Elminster, he's right here. Emptying my wine cellar and scouring the house for sweets and desserts.
There's alot of excellent lore masters on the internet. But Ed Greenwood is the man number one after all he invented Forgotten Realms. This is the channel if you want to get better at the lore the game as a player or DM he's the Homer of D&D😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 please have a good day and excellent video thank you.
Cormyr isn't a city, it's a nation. That having been said I'd say... immersea. It's a smallish town that doesn't have anything to worry about from external threats due to it being inside of the forest kingdom and it's rulers are the Wyvernspurs who are more benevolent then most of the cormyrian nobility.
Loves these videos going through all the lore and describing the layout of cities and so on. It's real cool to listen to and see these things in the minds eye. I cannot wait to see what Baldurs Gate 3 does to make the town into reality and can only think what the future of games set in faerun might look like. If vr ever expands to the point of something akin to nervegear I think it would be absolutely amazing to go through these fantasy lands.
Yes! I'd love that! And of course, after I see BG3, I'll have to revisit Baldur's Gate in these videos, and share more. I LOVE it when Realms cities come to life for others, they the way they do in my imagination.
@edgreenwoodofficial again, I really wasn't expecting a response. I'm happy to get one, though! It'd be really great to hear some more details of Baldur's Gate. N of course the other cities and just places in general of faerun. I can only hope BG3 inspires others to create things set in this world. Hopefully, it will be with the same appearent love and care that Larian is giving to the world too. It's definitely something to be looking forward to for a change, which is a shame to say but all to real.
"The true fortune to make in The Gate is made by those who service those cut throat merchants. The wagonmasters and warehousers can demand a premium from the hustlers in a hurry to get a deal done. My pa runs a crew of long shoremen that makes a mint unloading the unexpected ships that have to rent a pier. My aunt owns a laundry, washing the travel clothes of caravaners for the most leisurely living a laborer could hope for. Meself, I'm a marine pilot paid a small fortune to row out to the incoming ships and guide them to port. What I make on the side with aiding the smugglers is nice too." If my only character I've played in this setting could be boiled down into a quote.
Hello everyone, when it comes to the realms their are two thing I would like to see a video on and those are Aurora of Aurora' Whole Realm Catalogue, okay three, the catalogue being the third, and the city of Procampur.
Would LOVE a video on the Elder Rune cabal of liches.
Heh, and I'd like to survive a little longer, so I'll have to take great care with that topic. ;}
What on earth. How did i not know Elminster himself had a youtube channel? Just added quite a few videos to my podcast list! 😁
love love love your world and stories!!!
In my Baldur's Gate, a Spawn of Kyuss has been replicating in the sewers
Thank you for these videos, I love listening to you talking about the realms! Any chance we can get a video about the dwarves in the future?
Heh-heh. I have plans...
I just finished baldurs gate 3 andfound this channel) this is awesome content!
That makes me wonder, which city is truly the most pleasant to live in, Cormyr? Silverymoon? The Dalelands cities? Something else?
Silverymoon gives me "The Greater Good" vibes from Hot Fuzz, lol.
Cormyr isn't a city, it's a nation.
That having been said I'd say... immersea. It's a smallish town that doesn't have anything to worry about from external threats due to it being inside of the forest kingdom and it's rulers are the Wyvernspurs who are more benevolent then most of the cormyrian nobility.
maybe Neverwinter now that the rebuilding is finished. The "most civilized city on Faerun" as Volo wrote, after all
@@guitarhausdoesntknowwhatac3285 I meant the cities in Cormyr as a whole, I wasn't clear I know >.
Snap I didn’t know Greenwood had a channel!
Wolfheart has a great channel.
I could listen to you talk for hours
I can imagine tourists buying "Baldur's Gate is a happening place!" t-shirts. Well... perhaps there is a tabard or gambeson version instead?
The way ed describes baldurs gate really reminds me of NYC.
What I make on the side with aiding the smugglers is nice too."
If my only character I've played in this setting could be boiled down into a quote.
Ed Greenwood reminds me of the real life version of Ogden Morrow the way he was depicted in the Ready Player One book.
another Wolfpack member to join Ed :)
I'd like to know more about the windersnaven.
If you go by Baldurs Gate 2, its one of the most dangerous cities ever written about in D&D; in the city itself, in the wilderness and below it lol!
Hello everyone, when it comes to the realms their are two thing I would like to see a video on and those are Aurora of Aurora' Whole Realm Catalogue, okay three, the catalogue being the third, and the city of Procampur. If there is a chance I would appreciate it. I have to say I am liking this channel.
Wonder if Larloch has eyes on events in BG.
I wonder....
Catching one live
If I were in Baldur's Gate during the 2nd edition or 5th edition time frame, I would visit the Elfsong Tavern for some Shadowdark Ale.
very much enjoying this channel and learning a deeper appreciation of the creativity of the Forgotten Realms
I would love a video like this of Luskan, a PC of mine hails from there but i dont know much outside of its run by Pirate Lords
Luskan is on my to-do list.
