Should innovation be rewarded, of course. It's a very cool knife. But it is 100% not a $522 knife. It doesn't matter if you spend an insane amount of money for R&D to produce something, that doesn't mean it's worth what they put into it. At least to me of course.
I'm all for innovation but not at $550 this a showpiece something you keep in a glass nothing more . I believe makes me lose his sight core values and mission statement to provide a working for working-class men and women day in and day out.
300 at best lol, people make way more robust knives out of ti and m390 at the 200ish dollar price point . its not a good work steel ,m390 is an edge retention pillow princess so companies can call their stuff fancy so overall its kinda a meh knife. Hate this ultra light kick benchmade is on, i wanna be palming something real in my knifes and hate to put ti scales on my bailout for it not to feel like a pos toy
Working in a machine shop running a CNC for about a year really opened my eyes up to why some things cost what they do. Those sales are so thin and with that deep chamfer it's impressive they were able make vice jaws to hold them during machining. Also, titanium is a pretty hard material to machine.
I understand return on investment for R&D but I think a lower price would have resulted in greater returns with a larger volume of sales vs. a $522 price tag, all of the other reasons are not relevant to a price tag such as this.
Benchmade did really well with the Bugout. It was an amazing hit for them. This year Benchmade introduced the Bugout in new colors and raised the price. Chinese manufacturers are working hard making lots of cool designs. So American companies have to work harder. The Benchmade Narrows looks like a cool knife. But for 500.00 I would much rather buy a Chris Reeve knife.
$300 knife at most. I will never pay $500+ for that. There are so many better options for the money. You can get 2 really fantastic knives for that price. Benchmade is out of there fucking minds.😂
My brother gave me an Ali express knife that looks exactly the same. It’s also titanium. Only difference is the blade material and hardware is anodized
Spyderco Manix 2 is innovative and American made and available in s110v just not titanium. For about $300 less than the Narrows. As long as people are willing to buy these their prices will continue to be high on newer models.
Instead of saying, look here at Benchmade at the value you get here using the same material. I think that a company would want a grail designed knife at a reachable price. Meaning that they have the process of making it all already set up and they know everyone would want one. So now it would be hard keeping up with demand and the talk would be positive. Have you heard one negative erases ten positives.
The most expensive knife is usually NOT the best value. You want great value buy a Condor, Kershaw or CRKT. Is this model worth $522? Objectively speaking, the cost of printing endless money by the federal government is now being realized by across the board inflation, and the consumer always pays the bill. My friend has that higher end Bugout in M390 with aluminum scales and it is spectacular. Every time I flick it I’m impressed with the quality fit, finish and movement. Is this new model worth $200 more than that Bugout with similar specs? I suppose that’s up to each one of us. I ordered one because I think it’s a wonderful piece of craftsmanship and I’ve been looking for a titanium knife but I refuse to buy any knife from China. Did I over pay? Yes, but it won’t be the first or last time I over pay for something that captures my attention. This model has an elegant simplicity about it. Life isn’t an either-or. If a Hinderer is ever available I’ll get one of them as well.
This is not even close to a $500 knife. And say you do buy it. You're not gonna beat on it. You're going to baby it and open Amazon packages. All for the low low price of $500. Yup, what a fucking value.
Yes it's overpriced, it costs more than the bloody Anthem when that came out (sure there's the inflation aspect but the Anthem street price at $446 and the Narrows at $522... they should've just re-released the Anthem at $522)
Any thoughts on the excessively weak detent that is being reported? I’m like others saying this is a direct competitor to CRKT sane zap or Hinderer xm 18 so it needs to be perfect not just innovative. It does look cool though.
I wanted the knife when I first saw it. It looks cool. It’s awesome that the knife is made of titanium. The knife seems over priced to me. It’s not like this is the first Benchmade knife to be over priced. Benchmade introduced the Bugout in some fancy new colors and now it’s 200.00$ I guess we have to pay for the R and D of them coming up with new colors. I think Spyderco is doing a much better job of offering value to there customers.
Personally it's their right to price it however they want, but even with all the justifications, still I have pewpews that cost less... But it's a bad ass knife regardless and I give Benchmade kudos though
I was kind of on the fence with the price but you are right. US company and most US quality and you are supporting our US economy so does make more sense along with cool new innovations. If it was cheep everyone would have one. I like exclusive things that not everyone has one of so makes sense to me.
Well, everyone else is using Benchmade's old lock now. They had to come up with something new. I think I'll wait and see if there's anything worth buying once they figure out their manufacturing and prices come down.
Lol....this is not more than 400$ worth. Our family is more important than any other workers at factories. 522 $ are not falling from the sky to family budget....simple as that.
This is not a 522 knife. This is 300 knife. You have to consider the material and mostly because this is a production knife. It will have thousands of them. If you want a knife to EDC it. This is not the knife. There are so many knives you can buy for much less. If you are a collector then who want to pay this much for a production knife? The value will only go down not up. Once this first buying cools down. I bet not too many will be sold.
It has a high price tag but materials cost a lot more now thanks to inflation. People also don’t think about cost of material transportation to the factory. Cost for everything has gone up, not just Benchmade knives. I’m glad they take care of employees and pay them enough to actually live in the state of OR and make it worth coming to work every day. That said, I’m not a fan of how thin this knife is. It has a really cool design, but maybe too thin for some people.
@@primeministersinister625 Benchmade’s price is also probably for the R&D for this knife. They recently raised prices on most, if not all, of their knives due to their costs increasing.
@@primeministersinister625 and blade shape, handle scale shape, the super slim design, prototypes. You know, basic stuff like that that has to be looked at and tested. Milling titanium that thin takes new tooling as does the new version of the Axis lock.

Are you trying to convince us, or yourself? It’s overpriced plain and simple. If you want it buy it. That’s it end of story. I also wouldn’t speak on BM’s employee wages and benefits without first hand knowledge. I’m sure the general workers there are making pretty mundane manufacturing wages. I also heard a rumor that dealer pricing on this is 290.00 not sure how true that is,but sounds like to me dealers are making a killing if that’s accurate. I love BM and will continue to buy their products, and overpay for the ones I buy, but definitely not spending 522 on this.
Most 'South African custom knife makers are in that price range for a knife this simple, and they will build to order as well. I have a Steenkamp that blows the Narrows away in quality and beauty, and it is a one-off. I just got a Spartan Harsey for less than that, and that one will still be solid when my son dies and leaves it to his grandson. Sorry, Benchmade!
😂 the cost per unit for the knife is under $75.00 USD. How about price the knife at $150.00 and produce them in the millions. High quality and excellent value made in the USA. Producing less and charging more it's really getting to be tiresome strategy..
Why would you make a 100 knives for a 100% of would be customers when you could make five times as much money selling one knife to someone willing to spend WAY too much money? Humm...
Is it too much? Yes. Poor performance m390 is not worth it. Marketing and advertising is nothing but talk. They even have a deal with bohler for cheaper m390. Everyone and their moms can mill titanium and come in at a lower cost. They also dont heat treat the m390 to an acceptable level with proper microstructure and hardness. Go look at the dealer costs for this. And its marked up more than it needs to be. That bill of materials is no where near the asking price. Let's be realistic instead of a fanboy or a shill.
You’re a toxic person and will get blocked if you don’t tone it down. Benchmade is known for protecting dealers and helping dealers make money unlike almost all other knife companies. What do you care about any of this. Don’t buy it, be sour and move along.

The biggest mistake Benchmade has made was discontinued the 781
Agreed, if you were in the market for a $500 knife. Their BIGGEST mistake was discontinuing the 710. That's a beauty.
Today's cost of a Ti integral especially from Benchmade and your looking at least another $200 more than this
